I find the 950 mhz rumor pretty reasonable. Not saying it's true or not, I have no idea, but it sounds fair enough.

I mean, we can presume that ATI planned ahead and knew Nvidia would respin G200 on 55nm, probably long before we'd ever even heard of G200 by my guess.

As such, they'd have been saving "golden" chips, which would likely be more and more common as TSMC gets better and better yields over time. Those "golden" GPU's could fulfill this role rather nice.

    But who knows.

950Mhz just sounds ridiculous... most of the 4870's today cannot even reach that speed with 0.1v increase, or even +0.2 volts! That would result in a greater power consumption than a GTX 285 today, which really does make it look kinda bad. And I doubt that it would be able to beat a 285 in any games except for GRID. Heck, it still might not even be able to match up against a GTX 280.

20-30% increase in clocks and you think it won't match a 280/285?
Those clocks should put it ahead in most "even" titles.

ATi Radeon HD4890 is coming on April 6

950MHz would do wonders, since the core is definitely not starved by bandwidth due to GDDR5...
I could bench nearly that high on my current vmodded 4850, but i seriously got big diminishing returns due to the GDDR3 memory choking the core

So is a 4890 HD a single GPU core card? is it more faster/powerful than a 4870X2

yea its a single but they might make a dual. idk rv870 is coming in june and thats wat i am waiting for. sure 4890 will be nice because of 40nm and higher clocks but i don't see that much of a performance gain over a 4870.

950 clocks would be plain sick. It would easily beat the GTX280 and probably 285 as well

Wait, that article claimed 850mhz core clocks. What happened to 950?

Wait... I thought that RV870 was coming out in September? Or, at least that is what the rumor changed to last.

If it is on the 55nmGT process, then I would expect nothing less, personally. I have a *decent* 3870, and it can run stable on water at 920mhz, stock is 775.

One thing that I just noticed, is that though ALL of these rumors, the rumor that it would just be a super-clocked RV770 was the first, IIRC. And now, it seems to be confirmed.

My own Sample of RV 790 is "like 4850" with clocks 850/900 MHz ... better model (like today 4870) with 950/975 MHz could be later, but maybe will never be launched !

Yep, because I am sure you would be the first to receive a RV790 sample...

Pictures, screenshot of GPU-Z, etc, please??

Otherwise, why do you bother telling us that you have this RV790 in your hands? Are you telling yourself that your "better" volt-modded RV770 is exactly like RV 790, so that it's ok to call it a RV790?

Guess what? I have volt-modded mine to 950MHz, so I believe that it will be launched! I officially call it HD 4890, and it can be confirmed by AMD/ATI.

Also, my sample is actually 950/975 MHz like you wish you had, and you're right I cannot get it to 1000MHz.

(I rated this thread with 1 star.. wish I could rate it with 0 stars).

OK, this is weird. I'm sure I blocked OBR after his fake claims to have a 4850 around 6 months back

Back when jimmyz showed up with the real deal and OBR was practically ousted for lording his false claims of super secret hardware that
made him 'better' than everyone else (a common behavioural trait of OBR)

So why can I see this fakers posts now? A forum glitch?

I was informed he was banned for the same deal recently, ie claiming superiority to others for having NDA covered hardware and not showing proof.

Whatever, anyone with an ounce of experience with him knows to take his information with more salt than fud and inq combined.

Let's just hope the heat and power consumption goes down a little with process optimization and better VRM components..

RV770 is already too power-hungry, compared to the similar-sized G92b.

    Radeon HD4890 (RV790) & HD4770 (RV740) Launch On Apr 6th
April 6th is gonna be a big day for AMD as they are going to launch a slew of new cards. As we have told you back in February, Radeon HD 4890 (RV790) is slated for April release and the confirmed date is now 6th of April. Interestingly, we also heard RV740 is pulled in from May to early April release so AMD will probably launch the new cards on the same day.

Radeon HD 4890 (RV790) is still 55nm based and is basically a higher clocked version of RV770. The RV790 card comes with 10 layers PCB and is 9.5" long with a new dual slot cooler. We told you previously, there are 2 versions; standard and OC edition. The OC edition will come later in April. The price for standard 512MB edition is US$199 while the price for 1GB OC edition is US$299.

Radeon HD 4750 and 4770 is 40nm based and we already have seen a preview of it. Price of HD 4750 is expected to be around US$99 while HD 4770 is priced at around US$119. Apparently, the yield is so good that AMD decided to pull in from May to early April release to give GeForce GTS 240 and 9600 GT a run for its money.

just ignore the emos, wait for the link-bots like onethreehill
    standard RV790 = OBR's sample?
OC RV790 = '4870'-like version he hinted at?
unless he's as bad as some people think he is

Looks like ATI will dominate ~$100 segment in 2009 2H. At least I think that's what NV deserves after all the renaming, release something new ffs. But due to the popularity NV will still get away with this rather well and people think they're getting an updated card. But performance/price wise HD4750 and 4770 will easily spank their corresponding NVIDIA cards unless nvidia will do a major pricecut, that's very safe to say already.

    The thread's fine.

It's just that we're having the same discussion over in the RV740 thread is the problem.

Otherwise the more information the better
