    I ended up with batch # 3838B552 I haven't seen anything on it yet, and just got everything set up yesterday. Ram is running correctly at rated speeds, but dam I need to do my homework on all these new i7 bios settings.

    I see people here with the QPI/VTT above 1.40 for speeds above 4.0ghz, is this 24/7. I wanted to know if 1.41v QPI/VTT & a Vcore of 1.40v is safe for 24/7 use for 4.2 ghz. Intel reccomends 1.35v for the QPI/VTT voltage.

    My new 3841A554 is 20 run linkpack & 8 hrs prime64bit stable @4158 with a Vcore of 1.35v & QPI/VTT 1.335v but for 4.2 I need 1.41v QPI/VTT & Vcore of 1.40v load. temps are: prime 67c & linkpack 84c.

    Should I go for it ?

    hi there.

    I am using 1.29vtt for my 4.0 daily settings. Ive been stable at this setup for about a bit over a month already since I achieved it., been crunching for about a week like this, and real temp has been open for a few days as you see the time its been running.

    So is there any way to tell what a likely batch from Newegg might be these days? Can't decide if I should roll the dice or track down a used chip.

    My problem is not 4.0ghz. try to raise your bclk to 198-200 and run linkpack or prime. A hole different story.

    sorry I misread your post.

    above 4 GHz the most stable setup ive tried to achieve was 4.2 GHz @ 1.42v. VTT at 1.4v.

    well I know intel says to stay under 1.35v, but my chip ran like that for the first month, then I lowered to it to 4.0 because the extra voltage was not worth the extra 200 MHz. my CPU is still here in perfect conditions, no degration what so ever.

    Looking forward to testing my 3844A361 the only thing I've found about that batch was very very good. The person got 8 hours prime 3.8Ghz at 1.125v.

    3842A321 i7 920

    So far so good at 4GHz 191x21 HT on.

    Passes 5 LinX passes with 1.38v in E-LEET, set to 1.34 in bios (vdroop disabled in bios)

    VTT 1.39
    CPU PLL 1.85
    QPI PLL 1.35
    RAM 1.68 (1.65 bios)

    I'm going to try for the lowest vcore possible at 4GHz. I tried to keep the same vcore and go up, but it seems not to like to go higher than 4GHz. I tried 195x21 and it bluescreened.

    I'll post screenshots and temps once I get closer to the final 24/7 settings.

    Go on zlojack. I also have 3842A. Since i would like to run either 20x200 or 21x200 to have DDR3 2000 plz check if its possible. Do you think 4.2Ghz is out of the question?

    4.2 GHz is reachable with basically any i7. THe variation is in voltages, but as far as speed very few Ive seen that cannot go above 4.0 Ghz stable.

    Chicken what i mean is if he can attain 4.2 stable at a reasonable vcore. If i am going to need 1.55v for 4.2 i think its out of the question even if i watercool it.

    Gotcha.

    Well most of them do achieve it at a reasonable vcore. I need 1.42v. That is ok for 24/7 use.

    DDR3 2000 on this chip will be very difficult, I think. That's 4000 uncore! 4400 QPI!

    Maybe for benchmarks on a different divider, but I don't think on 200 bclk.

    I can get up to about 1800 (180 bclk) to boot on the 2:10 divider, but not any higher than that.

    My problem right now are my temps...I think I need to reseat my waterblock, but this chip seems to be much hotter than my 3837A chip with the same volts. We're talking about 10C difference when crunching at the same volts!

    So as much as I'd like to take this one up to 1.5v or something, it's not possible right now given my temps.

    I know DDR3 2000 is difficult to achieve for 24/7. It mainly depends on the cpu chip. How good or bad it is.

    Why did you change your 3837A in the first place then? Since you have 4GHz @ 1.38 i think you are ok. I wish i can achieve this. Now 4.2Ghz will be even better ofc

    right now man I am still in testing I have the same batch as you... I picked mine up at comp usa, was the only decent batch they had. So far I am at 3.77ghz HT, and Turbo enabled with a lapped thermaltake 120 True Black 1.289v tested for 24hrs on prime95 all 8 threads in blend. I will have to post all my specs for you but my system
    Case: Cooler Master Stacker 830 EVO
    CPU: Core i7 920@3.77ghz HT/Turbo On, Vcore 1.289v
    Mobo: EVGA X58 Vreg temp yet to exeed 57c
    Video Cards:3x EVGA 280 GTX FTW's
    Ram: 12gigs Corsair Dominator Tri-chn 1600 Ram at stock timings with a 2:8 mem Freq
    Hard Drive:10x 1TB Segate Hard Drives
    PSU: Thermaltake ThoughPower 1000w, and a 450 Supplimental

    But I was able to get up to 3.6ghz with ht/turbo enabled with my Vcore 2 notches down from above... temps where aobut 2-6c cooler per core, and about 3-4c cooler on the vreg I think once I start pushing past 3.7ghz it will be the slow turtle attack on overclocking playing with my Vcore, QPI and cpu VTT atm my cpu VTT is at +125mv

    I started overclocking with this... mind you its for an EVGA X58 board... There is a guy on the EVGA forums that is pretty good at giving you a starting point I had to tweak a few settings on what he originally gave me and have been slowly doing the turtle ninja attack on my oc since I got it stable at 3.4ghz

    Just wondering why on earth you have ht disabled that is what makes an i7 an i7 and sperates it from a q9xxx, Plus to have the full potential of the 200 series you need to have it enabled.... esp on a duel gpu card, it helps big time in sli,tri sli and quad sli over prev gen cpus.

    Why did you change your 3837A in the first place then? Since you have 4GHz @ 1.38 i think you are ok. I wish i can achieve this. Now 4.2Ghz will be even better ofc
    Why did I change it?

    I saw a new batch number while I was at the store looking at something else.

    I did a quick Google and found some interesting results on a Korean site, so I thought I'd give it a go.

    Okay, here is a short report on my brother's CPU, batch #842A594. Saturday night I finally had a chance to try to put his rig together, but after waiting for two weeks, we found out that the case was a returned one, therefore missing all the screws and stand-offs necessary to mount the board in the case. What's more, on the mobo, Micro Center's "POST IT" service screwed up one of clips that holds the NB/SB Heatsink (broken and loose in the mobo bag), so we had to bring it back and they had to take one out from a different board to use on our board. To make the story short, this batch should OC good if you have DDR3-12800 (or better) memory. Since we only have DDR3-10600 memory, we weren't able to get it past 20x167 (or 21x167 Turbo). It OCs similar to my batch (844A361) but requires .100V more vcore. It was stable with 1 Hour OCCT Test. Lacking proper memory (and I don't want to kill his CPU with high vcore), I won't force it to go any higher than that. Perhaps when he buys better memory (I doubt it as he is just a casual PC user so no OCing) we'll try it some more. I, on the other hand, will try to acquire speedier memory to use and see how far mine can go. Sorry to disappoint you guys...

    Hello ppl, my first post.

    Since a couple of days i own a i& 920 system.

    Oc'ing this system doesnt go without any problem

    Setup:
    920 batch 3837B387
    msi x58 pro
    ocz 3x1gb 12800 7-7-7-1t

    Stress temps are 60-65 degrees with Scythe Mugen 2

    The following settings are prime stable.

    BLCK = 185 (3700Mhz)
    HT= off
    C1E = off
    EIST = off
    TB= off
    Multi = 20x
    memoru = auto (1110 mhz cpuz)
    6-6-6-1t (cause of the low mem mhz)
    uncore = auto (2970mhz cpuz)
    CPU v = 1.376 (bios)
    CPU PLL v = auto
    QPI v = +0.1 = 1.045+0.1 = 1.145v
    DRAM v = 1.59 (diffirence within 0.5v to QPI v)
    NB v = auto
    ICH v = auto

    The following changes do not improve stability
    - lock dram ratio on 4 and uncore on 8 system not stable. also when i put 1.65v on dram.

    - BLCK 190 system not stable.

    - HT on

    I dont want go higher than 1.376 with cpu voltage. But i see many ppl that hit 3800 with 1.25-1.3v
    I know that not everyone cpu is the same. But i guess understand my stress with B batch cpu.

    Any tips are welcom you need more info about setup just let me know.

    Not posting complete specs until I can get a Prime screenshot (can't leave running that long on the stock cooler). 3844a361 booted and ran spi 19x211 1.2v but prime failed. Seems fine on 1.225v though Not bad for air even if I had to go to 1.25!

    what do letters and digits in batch stand for?
    and what the relevance between batch and born date? for ex, mine 3841A579 has pack date 01/26/09
