Looks like when the core i7's are OC'ed their powr consumption go up drastically, and with VGA upgrades in mind (gtx285 and such), I'd get an 650W corsair.

not that an HX 520 wouldnt be able to power it but it would probably run alot more stressed/hot/noisy and with lil headroom. Not to mention that the tx650 is usually cheaper

Its not over-estimation at all. Its simply a good degree of future proofing and its one of the few Computer components you can buy that has this.

A good solid PSU like a case will see you through several future builds if you choose wisely (wish I'd over-estimated when I bought my Antec 900) Its too small to work with my components)

For example, in my build when I initially built it, I thought the Corsair HX620 was ample, but before it went pop it honestly struggled with just the one HD4870 and 4x HD's and one optical drive and my overclock, at times it would simply just shut down (classic case of under-power) I had no confidence in the unit whatsoever, in fairness to Corsair ... when it did go *pop* it never took any other stuff with it.

I considered long and hard after this for a replacement PSU, asked on here for advice, was initially swayed from Corsair after this mishap, but looking at the bigger picture I decided to stop mucking about under-estimating and splash a bit more for a HX1000 that has absolutely solid reviews everywhere.

When I bought the Corsair HX620 a second 4870 for Crossfire X was just a possible luxury, as was a Blu Ray Optical drive, that PSU would honestly struggle with that (had 5x HD's in the comp then) I consider it quite fortuitous it went *pop* when it did and the new HX1000 is solid peace of mind as a replacement. Now that I had the opportunity to get another 4870 and more recently an optical Blu Ray drive, I had no hesitation in buying these extra items, will need a new VelociRaptor 300GB soon, no problems, I'm covered

A PSU like a good case is one of the few foundations for a future proof solid build you can buy, its well worth pushing the boat out in these area's when building any PC you want to be using and up-grading as time goes on.

These are hard times, we all have to cut corners, but I honestly think a PSU and case is worth more than some current hardware in the long run.

    Cheers.
