Kind of miss that chip as I've made a horrible mistake to sell it off...

Max(for now) on my x38 limited mobo and skills. 50c on NB is limiting me(40mm fan on it). I would like to have GA-EP45-UD3P to see full potential from this cpu. I can boot up to windows whit 495 FBS but not stable.
I would like to HIGHLY recommend the Gigabyte EP45-Extreme to anyone wanting to push this chip. Check out what I managed to achieve after only a couple of hourse, fully >8 hrs prime stable (both blend and small ffts):

I didnt even need to mess with any skew or reference voltage settings. I just set up some voltages, guessed a good vNB (1.36v on p45 chipset) for 4Gb of PC8500 ram and this FSB and went for it. After bumping up vCore one notch, it was fully stable and I was just like .

I couldnt believe it was so easy to push this mobo and the NB temps are still below 48C!! Compared to my older rampaged P5E dlx, this baby really shines in all aspects. While my older mobo was capable of priming at 471 fsb, it was still not 3D stable, whereas my Extreme fully is. It's like this mobo was made for 45nm quads!

les_paulde impresiv results, push this baby to the limitos(no rush). 2 questions in my mind. Your VID and do you feel(see) any benefits between 4.0GHz<4.5GHz in real world application, games,GPU OC?
I discovered that when LLC is disabled(X38) i can run lower NB,CPU voltage, much lower FSB VTT. Now just 1.26v. Maybe it's my high but system seems to be more responsive and overall temperature is lower. Soon i need to do vdrop mod and maybe set ram to 1:1 PL10 for max FBS just to see if i can accomplish my goal 490X8.5 stable. From now i just start my OC from the beginning.TBD,TBC

Okay okay, I'm working on it!

The VID of my chip is 1.25v.

I haven't been able to crawl up to 4500Mhz yet, but I have successfully reached and benched at 4403Mhz. I must say that honestly, while the differences in feel between 4Ghz and 4,5 are small, they are definitely noticeable. Windows boots up faster and the overall system seems more responsive. But I guess with a bandwidth of >10,000mb/s on both write and copy, this could make sense... 3dmark06 and Vantage both definitely scale up their cpu points nicely with higher frequencies though, so the further you push it the better it seems.

Hope I managed to answer your question?

    I got my Q9550E0 today. Pack Date: 02/04/09 Batch L830A956 Vid:1.2500
480X8.5 @1.3500Vcore Zalman CNPS 9700 I'll try to lower it but I have doubts. It's been stable so far
Room temp 29 heater is on as Istanbul is freezing cold
I've tried 500fsb and wasnt able to make it stable no matter what voltage I give Nb it boots then blue screen. I know it is not the mobo as I overclocked my E8400 525x8 and used 7/24 without any issues. need more voltage need serious cooling I think...

and a bench done today all on air vga on stock.

most people say is it is not easy to pass 500fsb wall on quads.and quads really need high Nb voltage for over 500fsb, while I was tryin for 500fsb I was only able to boot when I set NB voltage to 1.44. I'd better keep on trying.

Are High FSB i.e. 500 on quads really need high vNB?

Ans: Yes for X38/X48 and NO for P45.

I order to get my Q9650 Stable I need nearly 1.7v vNB
compare with dual cores, E8500, need 1.65v vNB to Pass 10 loop IBT @ 600FSB.

I totally agree, I only need 1,32v on vNB for 500 * 8,5, fully stable, even with 4Gb of ram and crossfire.

Here are my voltages in case it may help anyone:

How does the EP45-DQ6 fare against the EP45-Extreme? I like the DQ6 for more connectivity, and I read somewhere (the Q9650 thread?) that the DQ6 actually tops it with the FSB numbers.

I know the UD3P probably trumps both boards in clocks but somehow I feel it cheats by slackening the memory/northbridge performance. For example, a 500*8.5 performance at UD3P probably equals that of 480~490*8.5 at either DQ6 or Extreme. If this is true it means I have to pay more electricity to get UD3P to deliver what DQ6/Extreme can do for the same amount of work.

From what I've read (i can't for the life of me find the source again, but it was in several threads), it seems that the only way to be sure which one will do higher fsb on quads is by knowing if the motherboard you buy contains the newer revision of the P45 chipset. Supposedly there are 2 versions, and it's the later one that allows people to obtain ludicrous fsbs, even with quads.

But then again, I dunno. At least from what I've read in the various P45-Extreme threads, everyone at least manages to get 500fsb stable on quads, and they all do it without having to touch things like skew or reference GTLs. I dunno if its the same with the EP45-DQ6, but I could imagine it is so. Another benefit of the EP45-Extreme is that it was build for extreme overclockers, meaning that you can put outrageously high voltages through your components without the need for vMods. Finally, but this is a total assumption, it would seem that the EP45-DQ6 tries to cater for multimedia purposes etc., while the EP45-Extreme's purpose is hidden in its name, and therefore it would seem logical that the EP45-Extreme allows higher fsbs. But as I said, they are very similar motherboards, both based on the ultra durable 2 series, so I reckon it comes down to the individual's luck when choosing between the two.

Thanks Les_Paulde, your feedback is helpful! Seeing as how both Extreme & DQ6 have gone through almost the same BIOS update cycles I think both boards should behave similarly under the same settings - except that the Extreme allows wider voltage range. BTW, I think you meant A2 and A3 revisions of the P45 chipset, correct? Do you happen to know what most people have got from the Extreme lately? Hopefully they're all A3 now?

    Hehe no worries, you're welcome!

Yeah you're right, they were the A2 and A3 versions. I just finished building my rig last week though, and as its being watercooled I cannot just take out my mobo without it costing me another weekend.. So I don't know if CPU-z reads it out right, but it seems I did get an A2-version...

But then again, even with this version I can reach 518fsb, 3d- and bench-stable, so I can't really complain. Now I just need some nice 4Gb of ram that will either do 1200mhz CL5 or 1000mhz CL4, anyone got any recommendations?

So you must be using some sort of waterchiller, right? *is-jealous-of-Overloads_water-temps*

    Wow man, just wow!

EDIT: sorry, got confused, thought you were on water (which would have made sense considering those temps!) Nevermind...
