The exterior mounts on the other hand can be as big as you want and easy to take care of.

With blocks and flow rate performance differences getting so tight these days, adding excessive rad capacity is an easy means to real gains and it goes hand in hand with silence if you want both silence and top performance, you need alot of radiator.

    LOL!

    I can hear it now:

"But honey, it's for the good of the order, "People" want to know, "I" want to know, Don't you care about anyone but "YOURSELF!!"". Hours later your thinking..."What a bad idea, I KNEW I should have bought the EXTRA LARGE dog house"....

What's really nice about bringing out the 140x??? line, is that this will give us modders even more ability to be creative and find something that works for each of us. I like this. For those of us that can't fit the 140's, then there is always a GOOD selection of 120x??? stuff on the market. Even better is that TC is pushing for even more performance by revamping the 120.3. This is yet another evolution, as such was the transition from 80mm to 120mm fans. This bodes well for the industry.

It's good to see progress like this!!!

It doesnt fit in the drive bays? if so thats a huge screw up. A drive bay is 147mm, my 140mm fans fit without problems at all...

Yeah it does impose more limits but, well, I kinda like a challenge Plus I take my PC to lan parties and such, much easier to have it all in one chassis. But I agree, external does give you more options.

Martin, I have to rephrase that. "It's good for the 'larger' order Honey, bigger is better right? I knew you'd understand Honey, thank you Sweety ohh my dream of dreams, you make my life whole."

Thus, I have been married for 24 years and spend like a demon on whatever I want.

Hmm I don't know, I've never weighed it. It's fairly heavy, maybe 40-ish pounds? Just a (very bad) guess.

Now you got me curious, I'll have to weigh it sometime

Yeah, I know. I really do admire the system builds I see every day in the worklog forums. There's really another side of this whole hobby in making a piece of art out of all the gear, it takes tons of patience and artistic vision to put everything together like that. It's just not something I ever had the patience to do myself. The best thing in the world for me was going to a tech station (fitting of the tool/function category). Even when I'm not changing a thing, it makes me happy..

Yeah, I've got to work on my phrasing, I've always been lacking. We fixed 99% of our spending issues with his/hers recreational savings accounts that's part of our budget. It's not a huge pot of money, but there's no need for discussion or negotiation and it's amazingly satisfying. Then I don't have to employ my poor choice of words...and the dog house is much more roomy and comfy for our dog..lol

147mm is wider than 140mm, there is no reason to why you cant make it 147mm... or 145mm.

Not even a half centimeter for each side, probably not enough to make the bend in the metal for the housing and have a solid housing at the same time would be my guess.

SNiiPE, the problem is, you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd996sqXnDw

The GT series are, I believe, the widest rads made and when they scaled up to the 140, it was doomed from the outset. They went from 133mm wide to 153mm wide. The PA's are 126mm wide so if TC does the same 20mm add, the PA140 should fit into the 5.25 bays pretty snugly @ 146mm.

I would definitely consider this or a 2 fan version of it.

Koolance has what look like rebranded Yate 140's but with ball instead of sleeve bearings, so those could be used with this in horizontal mount situations.

    Edit: picture *Image snip*
Your performance increase is unlikely to be 29% you will obviously have the additional surface area but the volume of air you are moving with the fans will be the same (assuming your fans are currently shrouded to the rad so all their airflow passes through the rad) I would expect in your case at most a 10% performance boost. The surface area of the rad is only half the story!

And even if it were a full 29% increase in 'performance' it would only lower your water-out to air-in delta by 29%.

I'll be generous and split the difference of 29% and 0% and say a 15% increase in water/air delta temps, which is still only ~2C with a starting delta of ~14C (very high for XS configs...most of us are down in the ~3-7C range I'd bet).

With more surface the overall speed of the air going through the rad is lowered wich i belive upps the heat removed per ccm of air. 10c delta is alightly high, so i will ike to stay below that. My 14cm yates are capped at 1000rpm so i cannot just upp the fans forever to ocmpensate. The current rad kan handle my simple e5200\3870 in its sleep atm, but the idea is more in the direction of a quad an maybe som 4870x2 ish. Every 10% i can get is 10% i can use to turn down the fans again to that inaudible area again...
