With the latest 1104 BIOS, I can't get my system to run stable with the same OC setting as I can with 1001. Please explain to me how to make a change to this "new" TDP thing that Asus supposedly fixed on this latest BIOS?

    Help

Im posting this again in hope to get some help.

Hey guys I was wondering if somebody could help me get my oc stable with HT on.
So far I cant runt HT on at the settings below and I dont know how much more I can raise vcore without the temps getting too high.
I can run 3800MHz HT on@1.352v but that seems a bit too high. Any help would be appreciated. Im on latest BIOS. Settings below are Prime, Linx and pcmark/3Dmark vantage stable.

I dont think cpu 1.352v is too high on those settings unless your rig is getting very hot, your ioh doesnt need to be as high as it is imo at those clocks.
you could bring that down a bit. Also why have you set CPU differential amplitude - 800mV? dont think that is really needed at these clocks, auto will adjust it as needed.

@electricl - OCing your PCIE is not a good idea. It can cause system wide corruption. Also, I will say this again...not every chip can run 4GHz with HT on. Some simply cannot. Try 20x200MHz, 1.4V Vcore, 1.35000V QPI/DRAM, and 1.65681V DRAM and see if that is stable.

    Yup.

You can clock PCIE (it can sometimes help the balance), but not by the amount you have (110), maybe 101 or 102, but generally leave as is

pcie if you need to clock it is best done in windows with setfsb in my experience. doing it in bios can cause havoc with your sata drives, if you go too far with pcie overclocked with setfsb the system will just hang or crash. As a general rule I allways set 101 in bios and then if 3d benching use setfsb.

101 in bios is fine for any game I've ever played. Though I cant comment on if it helps with video editing and such.

    North Bridge Temps.

I have tried several methods to keep the NB cool.
I can not believe ASUS did not think a water block needed.
First I took an old RE alternate cooler and tried it, no difference.
Then I tried a Koolance 122 water block.
Reduced it a little but still not much.
Then went with a larger Koolance 135 block that is designed for a CPU and it did OK.
But, the temps where still not as low as I would like.
So I took an 80W pelter/tec under the 135 block.
    This works great!

I guess you could use something like the Thermalright HR-05/IFX Heatpipe Chipset Cooler and a 80mm fan.

This is a pretty large cooler so I am not sure of the fit.

There are others that may be a better fit like the Thermaltake CL-C0034 Copper Fan & Heatsinks.

    Hope that helps.
Me I will stay with my pelter and water block.

After spending all day working on my uncore speed, I've gotten to this. This board has the oddest voltage issues, especially in the qpi/dram area.

Roger! Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I've noticed some...I don;t know how to put it...some unusual voltage issues. I can quite put my finger on it. It like evertime a setting is changed it's like you have to relearn this board all over again. It's almost like you just have to randomly try things that at first don't make any sense, and then they work!

It's like this guy ---> Huh?!? I've caught things like that two or 3 times, and cannot make any deductions from it. It's like everytime yiou change a ratio you have to start changing all kinds of settings to get it stable.

This is a completely different kind of running to me with these CPU's. They are awesome, but learning to get high clocks is proving to be pretty difficult. 3.8GHz was a piece of cake. 4.0GHz took me slightly longer, but was starightforward. 4.2GHz was quite difficult and I had to find the magic QPI/DRAM Vtt, and really raise the vCore to achieve it...not just a bump, but 2 or 3 bumps.

Now, 4.3GHz is proving to be elusive, and I'm concerned about messing with IOH, and MCH voltages and all of that, but it seems like when you hit a wall these are the things that are working for people, but I cannot make heads or tails from all the reports I'm reading. I'm using water cooling so I can't go too insane becasue that takes Xtreme Cooling.

What do you guys think? Think I'm about walled out for the cooling I have, or is there stuff I'm missing?

Indeed. Thanks for clearing up the mess. On to other things.

This new BIOS allows me a higher stability while running on air. I can now make 4.0Ghz HT on a TRUE Black with less voltage.

Derek, how did you get a multiplier of 22x on the 920 as reports by Everest?

Performance-PCs.com has a few Rampage II Extreme Blocks. EK and Koolance i think.

Links to: Koolance Full NB/SB/IOH Block and the EK Full Cover NB/SB Block which comes in a Delrin top version and a Acrylic Version. Pick your flavor.

I like the one above the most just for it's looks.. I have no idea on performance numbers.

You almost have to get a full cover block to get any perfomance out of the NorthBridge section. Because even if you remove the Stock NB heatsink, There is still a plate of copper there. That's why I did'nt go ahead and get that fancy swiftech water block that was made for the original Rampage Extreme. The WaterBlock is not getting direct contact with the die.

    Hi Guys,

I am new to xtremesystems and to overclocking. Currently my 920 is overclocked to 3.2GHz using the Tune-Up facility in the Bios. I am looking to try and overclock to 3.8GHz to 4.0GHz. Can anyone post their Bios settings so that I can copy? Thanks.

is anyone else experiencing very poor raid performance on this board?

For ex. I had two wd6401aals drives in raid-0 and the performance was good, about 130mb/s average.
Single drive on this board was around 95mb/s average.

Now i went out and added 2 more of the same drives (all model, and firmwares match) to run 4xraid0 + 4x raid5 in a matrix setup. 320gb os raid0 stripe + remainder data raid 5 stripe.

I am getting the exact same performance using 4 drives as i was with 2 in raid 0, and the raid 5 performance is abysmal drooping down to 5mbs throughout the drive.

Extracting rar files with this setup is painfully slow. at least 2x to 3x as long as the raid-0 stripe.
Now, I know raid 5 is not supposed to be as fast, but with 4 drives it shouldn't be this brutal.......

    Measured with hd-tune.....

Is it easy to remove the stock cooling even after it has run for a while or is it best done from new ?
