i wasnt able to stabilise it, but it was 5-5-4-12 500Mhz DDR
    Read: 8724mb, Write:7278mb, Copy: 8021mb, 58.3ns latency.

memtest few errors around 50% mark, i tried to loosen some settings but couldnt get it stable. ill try again later. back to the 5-5-5-12 atm

Jasjeet, win7 beta helped my clocks too i think because i could not boot 4ghz on vista for my life, and now it does it with ease on the beta. i dont know waht it is. all i know is that boot up is a lot less stressful which is really nice. i think i'll see what i can max my black pi out @ 4-4-4-12 tonight. i got it up to 487 so far. i was running it 1:1 with my FSB for a while.

    Are they Micron?

Yeah, tweaking memory is fun, although sometimes it frustrating.
Some divider is better for memory OCing.
My result is using divider 1:2 (200/800)

i know this is kind of off topic, but can someone explain the fsb strap to me? i use the normal strap (which i think is 266mhz for me) and i dont know if using a different strap would yeild better performance

See if you can get Performace Level (tRD) lower, that's the primo timing in terms of memory subsystem performance, it actually affects the MCH not the RAM itself. Just got a DFI X48 board and playing with this myself now both with 4x1GB double sided Tracer 800 and 2x1GB Transcend Axe Ram 1200. Good reading at Anandtech here and here .

xdrift0rx that goes for you too re. your strap question.

Got so far Read:8110, Write:8752, 8020Copy and 62.7ns, on my crappy 800 4-4-4-12 A-Data DDR2 what wont oc at all.

830Mhz 4-4-4-12, 2.1v wont go furter, instant bsod at 850 and at 840 couple of memtest errors.

    5-5-5-15 2.1v max is around 890.

I think ill put some mad volts to this ram and see what they do then

my timings are huge at the moment , corrupt MFT = hours of trying to recover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

files are there, but have to do a lengthy process of getting them back, its worse than a accident format, dam it!

on ther other hand my GSkills are on their way back from RMA lol

I always have a benching os on another old eide hard drive as there is no risk of damaging you os install and computer boots faster with out having to load up sata raid stuff ect

Also you can make an image of it 4- 10 gb and just reimage the drive if worse case happens

As for what type my Ram is gondezz i,m not sure, i think its pretty high binned micron D9's ( i,m sure one of the OCZ rep will know)but I havent stripped them to check (its nice to be able to RMA them should worst ever happen).

Going to have another play today so see what i can get away with !!!

i got all my data back 88gbs worth, but it was a different drive from the boot drive, so its is very odd, and happened while gaming, probably unstable ram, but was passing memtest and prime95 for a few hours at 5-5-5-14.

    o well

I will post my findings but due to the mature of ram and mobo differences (luck) ect whats works for me may not work for others.

i think by monday my G Skill 4gb PI kit should be here, and i will start overclocking it. one question though, if i put timings too tight at one point can i ruin the ram modules? voltage i will not go over 2.1v anyways so i am not worried there. timings are the other variable, but if i over tighten them can i destroy the ram?

simply no jasjeet the ram will just fail to work

if you pump big volts into it then yes it will kill the ram

Acid means the only way to fry ram is with volts and temps.

Too high of an OC and you just reset clocks
