    I turned off my read cache for exactly that reason . Reads are plenty fast on ALL SSDs.

    I'll probably be selling my 5405 when new SSD raid cards get released (the 1405 is non raid). Performance does indeed suffer quite a bit by using the controller versus onboard (of course without taking cache into account, which makes the controller useful even with a performance drop).
