    What do I need?

What do I need? I thought my voltages were pretty high for air coolling. If you need more info I copy it from the BIOS. Also my USB Passport External drive won't show up in windows. Do I need more SB Voltage?

    Voltage Values

    +3.3 V 3.23 V
    +5 V 4.90 V
    +12 V 12.10 V

going to say up your vcore a little if that's a quad.... might put some sort of cooling on your north bridge if it has the bare se block.. not only did it help my nb temps and stability issues a little it helped my loaded cpu temps in tests by a few degrees..

Yah NB temps hinder your fsb overclocking attempts. Really need to put it on water. I put a decent individual sink on it and it still ran hot.

Grn did you pull the trigger on the black pearl?

Continued crashing ? Not sure why?? I tried upping the voltage dropping the voltage same w/ NB/SB/ RAM even everything set to auto continued to be a problem!
Went back to Old Gigabyte GA-X-38-DQ6 motherboard it has been running Prime95 stable 14hrs+ as I have obtained 3.8 only thing that bothers me about this board is its vcore jumps around under cpuz even with loadline cal enabled?? I have no idea why yet the asus board was rock solid voltage no matter where I set it? I might invest in a DFI board soon if this gives me any probs? Thus far it seems stable as a pyramid @ 3.8ghz ran 4 ghz for about an hour but couldn't find stable setting so dropped to 3.8 and hey Im ok with that for now, though DFI might be the answer?? Not sure why the asus max formula kept freezing real shame as I like the board and it bios immensely

Yea, it's a shame that this board cannot handle 4ghz. About to try out a mIIF soon.

The Freeze continued , I swapped out my Memory for corsair, My video for a gforce8800 , my psu, even my CPU to the old 6600 and the freeze continues! Finally I just built on my old gigabyte x-38 dq6 and the freezing has stopped? over 24 hours prime stable! Go figure?? This was my 1st asus board since a k8v se I had for an old athlon years ago, that board still runs this board well there's much to be said...
Not sure what the deal was everything to stock / auto in settings even flashed back to the original maximus bios and zip?
The whole reason I upgraded to this asus board was CPU-z would show my vcore moving around even with loadline cal enabled? Wasn't crashing or anything was just pissed it wouldnt stay put..
The formula stayed locked on target with cpu-z as far as vcore goes but froze daily if not hourly? Wonder if I could RMA it? I bought it used

I would concur with grn as well ALL AIR RESULTS.
You apparently just aren't using the right settings yet for your chip.

I think the 1st problem was leaving things to auto on this mobo. It is well documented in this as well as my origional tread that this mobo overvolts lots of its values. Not to mention overclocking the quad and on a ram divider takes more effort to get it stable on most boards.

Shoot us your BIOS template or request one I pposted long ago so you cvan fill in the blanks and the group can better help. Just list your voltages as reported so it is much more simple.

In general, I will side w/ the others to say you for sure need some more vcore on that Q6700. I know it's a great CPU and will do better then my old 2yo Q6600 and That can do 4g on this mobo w/ some good tweaking. The ram divider is another story, needs lots of NB volts FSBT, PLL and so on. Oh ja, your FSBT is quite high for what FSB you are show. I only used 1.504v at 500FSB w/ a PLL of 1.648v. I have had a few 65nm quads need a PLL as high as 1.7v to keep stable at 500FSB. Be patient, I think it can do it.

    Good look, hope this helps.

Can I get some instie on how and when to tweak these settings and for what to where? I had them left to Auto for over a year and recently fixed to DDR2 REfand I only noticed it moved my DDR ref from 1.152 to 1.130. at some settings it would also auto to 1.20. Where do I want this to be concidering my types of high FSB OC and 5:6 divider?

Also, I have moved to the OCZ FLEX EX PC2-9600 and it the mobo appears to need some more tweaking to keep it stable at 1200MHz/2.256v in 5:6 at 500FSB. outside of lowering the trfc to 55, what can I do about the rest of the sub timings or learn more about them? Most notably, the secondary settings if any benifit is gained. My Primary settings are 6-6-6-3-55-6-3 Auto was 6-6-6-3-46-6-3.

Can you please feedback on some of the tested workings of the RF hack and what is the latest non beta? Can we get directly from site or is it actually hacked spacifically for the MF or P5e respectively?

    At anybody else;
What about the INF drivers? I'm currently on chipset INF v9.0.0.1008 since 06-02-08 (Intel general 4 & 3 series). I have an Intel server still on x38 and it has an updated driver above what I can find for the general 4 & 3 series on their site, yet for my Intel x38 mobo, it offers v9.1.0.1012 posted 01-06-09 for use w/ the Intel DX48BT2. I have the X38, DDR2 version of this.

    Any ideas

You first question is over my head, maybe ask mikeyakame, he is an engineering student iirc.

Sub timings can be rather dreadfull to tweak and I'm no master of them.
What I do know is this ( get comfy its a long read but well worth your time to read it)

    http://download.micron.com/pdf/techn...2/tn_47_01.pdf

If your having ram stability issues try setting tref at 65 and setting dram clock skew to advanced 100ps.

The new Rampage bios offers NB and CPU Clock Skew's. There very helpfull in getting high FSB stable and the NB clock skew will help with 8GB's for those suffering stability issues.

Way thanx on the fast reply, I will read through the guide later tonight.

As for the Rampage BIOS, I am just trying to find out how stable it is for real world daily use such as in full ACPI function like at least S3 & S4 (sleep & Hibenate). I cant seem to get anybody to answer this in over a year plus of hacking. If that will not function, I will hand this down and just get the real rampage since it's well half the cost of this when new.

    Thankx again.

Grn, Thanks for continued support, I Called ASUS this afternoon and went over my settings and temps w/ some tech guy in any case he issued me an RMA and is going to replace the Board was pretty painless but with all the issues I've been having and the fact that it was happening at stock settings with 2 different types of memory and even my old Q6600 installed it pretty much narrowed it down I guess In any case Ive got my old gigabyte board installed and running @4ghz stable for 24 hours so guess the board was bad Should have my new board w/in a couple weeks hopefully. I'll keep ya posted on the results who knows maybe they'll send me an upgraded board (wishful thinking but hey ya never know

You apparently just aren't using the right settings yet for your chip.
Sorry, was referring to the q9650, I was able to get my q6600 over 4 as well. Nice results there!

nice chew.. i overlooked the ccc tab,, i was looking for a gpuz. that is a sweet score for 1 card.. i just finally got my 2 hd3870's to run and not get vpu recovery errors after a year of them dang errors.. they get about 750-800 less then that score with both of them on the stuff i have in my sig with stock card clocks... i may have to look into a upgrade on the video side of things now that i got them to work.. first i am going to try to play with their clocks a little so see if i can get them to 20 or 21k..
