Can't Boot Completely With 2nd Physx Card Installed

Finally got a chance to install my GTX295 with a 9600 gso to handle (some what) physx. Only problem is once I install the 9600 I can't completely boot into Vista. I can get to the loading screen (where the green bar is) but then the screen goes to a bluish color and computer either restarts or just sits at the same screen.

If I take out the 9600 then I can boot into Vista fine. If I take out the 295 and just install the 9600, I can boot into Vista.

How I got to this point? I setup a New install of vista 64 with the 9600. Dl 181drivers and changed out the cards adding both the 295 and 9600. Restarted Vista found both cards then installed the drivers. Restarted and could not boot into Vista. Then I tried hooking the monitor side analog to 9600 and dvi to 295 after a restart and still can't boot.
Later took out the 9600 and dl and install the 9.09 update as a last effort. PSU BFG ES-800 rest in sig.

    Any ideas?

    Tried again:
Took the 9600 out and booted into vista and uninstalled the 181drivers. Installed the 9600 and booted back into vista fine. Reinstalled the 181 drivers and restarted. Once restarted I got to the same Vista loading screen with the Knight Rider bar, fans on both cards spun down to normal. After that back to the black/ bluish screen and can't boot into Vista.

    Nvidia driver problem?

would guess drivers as 295 is a very new product and I think theres 1 beta and 2 drivers that actually support it, my guess would be emailing nvidia support and see if they can offer any help :/

Yes this was on a clean install of Vista 64. I tried again by uninstalling the drivers then booting into safe mode and using driver sweeper a couple of times. Then installed the latest 181 and the new Physx 9.0 something other drivers.

Reboot installed the 9600 and this time I booted into Vista but under analog only using the 9600 outputs. The GTX295 monitor outputs would not work. Checked to see if the 181 drivers were installed and they were not according to Vista. So restarted and back to the same blank screen as before.

Took out the 9600 out and booted in Vista not problems. So the drivers must be the problem.

One more thing, does the 96xx support Physx, i thought only 88xx, 98xx, 26x and over do.

Got BFG-295 recently. Only HDMI for TV there (and it's not usefull anyway, since not working in multi-gpu mode).

Exactly same thoughts came to my mind, when I was forced to have a second card for s-video TV-out (as my old TV does not have HDMI at all). Bought Sparkle 9600GSO for TV out and dedicated physx.

Guess what? I went to sleep at 4am last night. Exactly same problem!

Started from old Win XP/32 SP3 setup which served me well through couple years - I was blue screened right after adding GSO and setting up drivers for it.

Formatted XP partition, clean reinstall of XP/32 SP3. All updates. Drivers. Reboot. Oopsie, same problem.

Then (lucky me, have an MSDN subscription) I tried Win2003 Server (and then - Enterprise) 32 bit with all latest updates: no luck. In Win2K3 there was no blue screen, it was black - and no reboot done automatically at all.

Put the Vista64 for download at early morning, just to find out your post on this forum.. Jeez... It seem it will not help there too...

    My setup:

PSU: Chieftech 1000 Wt (tried it with 3 * 280 at my friend's PC)
    MB: Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP (16x PCI-E #1 + 4x PCI-E #2)
    RAM: A-Data 1066+ (2 * 2 GB @ 400Mhz)
    CPU: C2D 6850 @ 3.6Ghz (9 * 400)

ps. gonna try 9500 GT tonight .. maybe it's only GSO related?

If you can - please collect an information about "faulty" and "allrighty" systems they have. My guess, it can be related even with motherboard model... (me and you both have intel chipset, thought yours is newer than mine).

ps. I had 260 + 8800GTS-512 in my system before 295, worked fine (8800 for physx). But 8800 moved to my office pc for.. mmm... work, I guess And 260 is already sold, so I cant try config like 295 + 260 or 295 + 8800 at the moment. Thought, I might bring 8800 (and one 9500 GT) from office tonight.

Glad to see I'm not the only one (if thats a good thing). See you made it over to the Nvidia forums, there was a couple of people there that said it does work and their using it right now. I can't seem to find the post thou.

I've got one lucky on russian (ixbt) forum, who confirm that his system works fine too, and he have... drumms... 975 chipset on mobo. SLI certified by nVidia.

Same way, as you can see in funk32 signature couple messages above in this thread: X58, 295 + 9800...

I've got "strange" feeling about it Drivers seem to fail on non-SLI motherboards, while works fine on SLI-capable, eventhought you don't build SLI between different cards, but having SLI-like dual GPU one already...

I did notice once I install the drivers and 9600 the p5q does a restart, like I changed the bios systems or something. Yeah our luck your right about the non-sli boards not working. Really the only true reason why I even got the 295 and if physx ever really takes off.

Nvidia wants me to submit some info and we will see what they have to say.

The worst thing about it is that we are not using that second card in SLI mode at all... For me, it was just a chance to get s-video out (well, physx nice, thought).

But now, I'm forced to get ATI card to handle it, LOL. Too good I'm mainly at XP/W2K3, so I can use mixed-vendor cards at all, not like in Vista

Update: thanx to nVidia, I had to dump the fresh 9600GSO and buy ATI 3850 as secondary for my TV out. Works nice. No PhysX on dedicated card, thought, but I'll definetely live with 295 for it.

Bad part is now I'm having problems with the 295. This card runs hotter then I have imaged. I'm getting lock-ups after an 1-2 hours of gaming in Quake Wars with everything maxed at 1680. Temps reach and hang around 80-85c with the fan on auto and no o/c. I've read where others can reach higher temps and no problems but there are a few that once their temps reach this area problem lockups start happening.

Rest of the temps look good...q6600 @ 55-60c

Is it not possible to dedicate one GPU from a dual gpu card to physx then?

I have two of them, i would rather use 3 gpu's for rendering and one for physx if possible, or do i have to dedicated the whole second card to it?

I did but haven't tried to install the 9600. Trying to figure if cooling was the problem with the 295 as said in above post.

Off topic: did set the fan to 65 and after and hour of Quake Wars maxed out, the temps got to 80-85c for both cores. Didn't lock thou.

did you try connecting the monitor dvi to the other gfx card to see if made any difference ? if you you dont ...try a secondary screen/ even a hdtv and see if that works .....do you need .net 2.0 framework installed by any chance.
