I used to back when I first got this board set up, there was something up with it working properly on a 64 bit OS SLI setup from the start. I have the same card on another system that was 32 bit and didn't have a single issue with popping or clipping at all so I knew then the drivers were clashing somehow, especially the video drivers, only way I got rid of it was to roll back the vid drivers then it got better. Using SLI myself I was testing to see if that had anything to do with it, there was no pops when in single gpu mode, SLI mode did have distortion so for sure there was some issues there. Since then though with all the updated drivers for the sound card and gpus that have been released, the crackle pops have all but ceased. I believe our sound drivers are also a work in progress because I don't think it's 100% but it is getting there. I can say with honesty that it has improved dramatically from what it used to be like.
Any crackles that I hear are very rare and sporadic these days on this board, not enough to raise alarm really. For the most part it's been behaving as it should so no complaints. Like I said they [Auzentech] are still working on these drivers so I'm sure things will improve further. Yes I know it's easy to be cynical about relying on driver updates but so far there has been progress so I gotta be optimistic.
Personally I like the card very much, have them in 2 of my systems and the difference in sound quality is very clear. Music and games sound very good and punchy, if you have the right speaker system hooked up to it. Digital optical input\output is another bonus as well as it's built with high qual components ie; capacitors etc.
The other good thing is that it's gone down in price these days as well so you might be able to pick one up for just under $150.00. Well worth the price in my opinion for what you get.
