Hey pershoot, glad to see ya got the bugs worked out man!

I've been working on my 3.9Ghz stable OC, see this post:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=722

I know it's been said 1000 times, but it really seems like these things like staying cool. I've ran OCCT a number of times and everytime my chip gets ~55c it fails. Every run I've made stays stable until it gets around that temp...
    (I'm on water BTW)

I backed it down to 1.55v on the CPU, and lowered the HTRef to 204 (3.876Ghz) and it was running fine for about 1/2 an hour, but I saw temps hit 51c and I got greedy so I lowered the voltage 1.5375 and it crashed...
I'm pretty sure it was actually good other than my impatience.

Don't know if you've had the same experiences or not, but I know we have the same stepping. It might be something you want to watch...

hmm i havent noticed the same behavior when i had the v's bumped up a bit (~1.45), but i'm not using as much voltage, so that is probably why...

wish i could take it higher but my cooling has reached its max and where i feel comfy letting the temps get, so i can't increase v's anymore at this stage.

good going so far daveburt on your clocks it's like the lil engine that could (or lil cpu that could, hehe).

All your answers can be found here. It's comparable to the stock cooler performance wise. 1 fan on the cpu heatsink, clip on fan cooling the board.

@Oldguy: Reminder to please put those images in your OP.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Yeah, thanks. All in all, it comes to around $600 after MIR. Hopefully I'll be able to sell my old opty setup and get around $250 to $300 so a < $450 upgrade is nice.

Titan, How are your load temps with the s1284EE?

Also tighten up those memory timings.

I know it was not directed at my, but I have exactly same behavior as you. As soon as my CPU hits 54-56C it's error or blue-screen!
BTW my CPU is benchable @3.9GHz in most apps, except OCCTP of course
3.85GHz is stable when using 1.475V not stable when using 1.52V . I will try to do some veryfication/validation over the weekend.

PS. I'm starting to see a pattern that OC scales better with volts when benching in 32bit mode. 64bit mode hits voltage scaling at lower threshold. Possibly due to more heat produced in 64 bit mode and/or hotspots in CPU.

When I get my pay check Im going to upgrade things Also I just heard from my parents they're prolly going to pay for an uncertain amount of driver lessons because they paid a lot for my sister's pregnancy thus far... Hey, I wont refuse

Getting the M2R out again, replace the cooling with Thermalright HR09 MOSFET cooler, 2x Thermalright HR05 IFX coolers for the NB and SB (this time I wont try to use the stupid push pins, I feel very worried about the current HR05 on the SB, it's not all that tight).

EK Supreme Acetal block on the CPU and 2 EK-VGA Supreme Acetal blocks on the HD4870X2 (seems like Ill have to mod the stock HD4870X2 heat sink, but Im going to keep that on though for the RAM and MOSFETs). Ive to get a new case though, prolly going to get a Silverstone TJ07. 360mm and 120mm rads in it should do the job And of course 1/2" tubes, going to be my first watercooling setup though

Lets see where this beasty CPU will land I'd love to get an AM3 board though but to be honest that would be a waste of money for a while. Since this chip already does 3.7Ghz on 1.48~1.49V on air, 4Ghz+ on water is certainly doable. I guess 99% of all PhII's could hit 4.5~5Ghz easy on subzero, so scaling isnt an issue. But well, on water Ill push Vcore real hard, although it's very likely my older 790FXB was just a lemon, I dont feel safe with 4+1 PWM lay-out, 790FX-M2R lay-out is a whole lot more trustworthy.

Does anyone know if the 920 will overclock well on a K9A2 Platinum? With the NB multiplier changing limitation, how are people getting the best overclocks on that board?

    1.35v idle 30c load 43c
    1.45v idle 32c load 50c
    1.55v idle 35c load 58c

thats using prime for 15 minutes

ok got the ram at 5,5,5,15,24

Well heres a rundown of the voltages for the clocks....all clocks are bench/game stable. Ill be testing for prime stable clocks later on but heres how it worked with this cpu.

    stock clock 3ghz to 3.5ghz 1.35v

3.6ghz 1.4v (need to test for lower maybe 1.375v-1.38)
3.7ghz 1.45v idle temp is 36c......(temp was taken while the house was a bit warmer)
    3.8ghz 1.5125v
    3.9ghz 1.55v
4ghz 1.575v just for screenie and validation. At this point Im almost at my aircooled max level. Im on air and ambiant is 24c.....Ill post load temps as I get them.

so right now my full overclock for the entire system benchable sits like this.

    cpu 3.9ghz
    bus speed 200mhz
    nb 2.8ghz
    ht 2.6ghz

I've got the same cooler and my results are pretty similar there. I just need to get some better cooling over the chipset and pwm sections so I can get 3.8 stable or more out of it.
