I seem to have gotten the worst Q6600 in the world I have to feed it 1.55V throught bios around 1.5V actual to obtain 3.6ghz.
My question is.. am I slowly killing my cpu with that much juice, I don't mind it degrading slowly in time, since an upgrade will prolly happen before she dies off. How fast might I see degrading if it even occurs at these volts with the Maximus formula.

Oh and does it effect the board aswell or other components ? This is the first time I actually push a board & cpu a bit more

1.55vcore is less important than temps, if your chip is running at decent temps and your board is running cool than dont worry about it.
If your running on the hot side then yes you'll burn that hardware up quicker.

The parts are under water, except for the NB which still has the stock heatpipe assembly on it. After an hour session on OCCT im getting load temps up to 60c. Thinking of slapping my MCW30 on the NB since it's prolly running a bit too hot on the stock setup. Or I'll just back down to my safe settings Voltage on auto @ 3.2ghz temps under 50c.

Hi guys, some quick advice please:

For my existing q6600 would you guys get a p5e and rampage it or go for a p5q-pro ? These are my best options atm. I have 8Gb of g.skill PQ 8000 , are these Ok for p5e ? Or even p5q ?

    Any help would be great.

Thats a good question that is not easy to answer. In short, I would say get yourself the p5q-pro instead of the p5e, but only if you do not want to run crossfire. IF you do want to run crossfire, I would suggest you get the P5E deluxe (x48 instead of x38 from P5E) and rampage it, although many people say that the 8x pci2.0 speeds are only noticeable in benches. I was very happy with my rampaged P5E dlx and Q6600 - got her up to 3700MHz stable! For RAM compatibility, please check the QVL (qualified vendor list) on the asus website as it will list the ram that is compatible for that particular motherboard.

If you dont need crossfire, I would suggest go with the P45 chipset, as it runs cooler than the x48 (smaller manufacturing process, therefore less heat) and is known to reach higher fsbs, especially with 45nm quads if you ever decided to upgrade your CPU. PErsonally, I would rather have a p45 board atm, as i feel my P5E dlx is holding back my Q9550 by limiting the fsb to ~471...

just my thoughts, not necessarily wisdom...

CPU temps are decent for that voltage, I would recommend getting the MCW30 on the NB, it kept mine very cool with 1.53 volts on the NB it never saw 45c

I found very interesting phenomenon with my motherboard, which I think Zucker2k had mentioned. Above a certain fsb, for example about 465, I have to switch off the system and kill the switch. After this intervention the system is stable at 8.5x471 Prime95 Blend (9 hours) without problems and occurs benchable above 475 fsb. Without this intervention the system cannot load Vista or freezes at the logon screen. I tried 701 and 410 bios. Same s**t.

Never fails, I'm waiting for stock on a new case and 4870X2 water block.
This sets me back atleast 10 days, while the case is less important, I need that water block to tame the blast furnace I have installed

I'm looking for feedback from anybody w/ a Q9550 OC'd on X48. I want to run it on a DDR3, X48 based ASUS. What are some of the better OC chioces? I am aiming for FSB500 in 1:2 for DDR2000. Is that too much to hope for out of a Q9550? What is the average max to date?

Ok...Got my Q6600 under control with 1.518V @ 3.6ghz which is nothing spectacular, but I think I'll hold onto these volts. Not sure if im going to replace the stock NB heatpipes as it's stable for now, and it's pain to find a nice solution for the SB if I rip it off Funny thing is im reporting idle temps of around 40C's on Vista 64 and exact same setup on Windows 7 64bit runs at 34C. Still think my temps are reasonably low since im running a single loop = MCR320 with some ultra kazes @ 900rpm and I also have a blastfurnace in da loop 4870X2.

500FSB is doable, My Q9550 requires alot of juice to bench at 8.5x500. 500x8 and it starts to settle down. 7.5x500 is 24/7 stable
If you get a decent E0 I'm fairly certain you can hit your goal

    Nice case!!
I've always liked the style of Lian Li cases.
Well now your stable lets see some 3Dmark scores...

What kinda temps are you getting on your 4870X2 under water?
I'm still waiting for my block!

Open that window and crank that fan up to 100% ( bolt case down so it don't take flight )

Btw, finished my mounting, got some insulation, off to the store for kneaded eraser, dielectic, and a few other odds and ends. Tommorow should be interesting.

Wow. I just got my new (open box) Rmapage x48 setup with Windows 7 beta on it. What a change. Haven't had much time to mess w/ Win7, but the Rampage booted my chip at 450, all auto settings. I'd say my 430 fsb wall I had on the maximus is officially broken.

Any suggestions on keeping this thing stable up to 500fsb? I'll obviously have to set voltages and such in the bios and I'm going to wait to get my H2O on the NB before I push it, but if I can hit 500fsb w/ 8gb of RAM, I'll be happy for a while.

oooo this is going to be interesting...some AMD performance, havent seen any in a long time.
My card must suck ass it hard locks the rig on anything above 840/1050 no artifacts just hard locks.
maybe a volt mod is in order???

What were temps of cores? I think mine was idling 32ish and max was 50 when I cold air benched it, hotter made me drop core more. I got better results from clocking memry first than going after core because once it gets the heatsink so hot memory artifacts.. Heres a post its in.
