(IE this is my today: Went to get the paper in my car (its not in front of our house) pull back in driveway my dad is backing out and I honk to make sure he knows that I am there. and he just keeps backing up & backing up and hit my car then get to the post office and there are 6 people in front of me. So I am late getting to work.)

Luckily I can't remember most of it, but I am pretty sure it included getting up, eating something, walking etc.

How long till my 10 years old Maxtor HDD fails? It acted weird yesterday....

I give it 2 months. Those old hard drives are real beasts. I'm expecting my WD Caviar 80GB to check out soon--it's been 5 years. All signs are good for it, but still--that's a long time for a drive to be running.

This forum requires that you wait 70 seconds between posts. Please try again in 1 seconds.

Which graphics card should go into my sister's PC? 8800GT or HD3850? Mind you, both are 256MB cards. Again, paired with an Athlon X2 2.2GHz, 2GB DDR2, and for playing Sims 2 and Sims 3. I'm thinking the HD3850--Catalyst releases are only monthly, so it'd be easier to keep her on working drivers. Of course, if we get good performance with her games immediately, I'll put her on pause with Cat_.__ drivers.

those games arent that GPU intensive IIRC : check this:
Video: 128 MB DirectX 10.0 and T&L compatible.
Id buy the most energy efficient and cheapest of those two ( if those combined factors match)

The most physical pain I've felt was when I ran into a ledge when I was 7. (Right above my eyebrow are the scars) I had to get a few stitches. I thankfully haven't had much more pain than that.

How many gpu's would you buy if WCG adopted cuda?

I'd go with a HD4870 because its cheaper and can play crysis vhigh at 1680 by 1050. And can probably play everything else easily.

Is there a way to do printscreen on a mac thin keyboard??

On OS X you hold "windowz key/ squgly thingy" Shift and the #4 and it brings up a curer to select the area you want. I don't know if that helps at all but there you go.

    Back to OT......................

I would be tempted to buy an iPod Touch, but then I realised I'm paying the price of a cheap netbook just to basically get portable wireless. I HAVE bought an iPod (2nd or 3rd gen, I think it was. 30Gb HDD, black and white screen) which lasted about 3 years before the HDD shat itself.

    2.5 or 2.66 GHz Hapertown or almost 2 bare-bones i7 rigs?

    The latter.

Is 18 hours enough to write a program that will compute PI (using the BBP formula) using one to eight threads, with precise time measurement included (accurate up to 1/1000 s)?

Going off my past experience in programming? No, you'll probably need a fair bit more time than that

How much power does an i7 draw at about 3.8-4.0 GHz?

Wanna bet I'll succeed with completing that program before 01:00 am GMT?

Depends, when did you start and how far along are you right now
Are you basically splitting up the summation across the threads and combining at the end? I suppose you could also extract some extra performance by using some SIMD routines if you'd want as well.

EDIT: Curse my slow message composition/proofreading speed :P
To answer your question, AMD's site says 1600x1200.

With the continued disappearance of the sole BoincView developer, would you be interested in a new program to replace it?

Nope, not really, unless it effects me.

So considering that even a 2.5 GHz Harpertown rig costs almost twice as much as an i7 crunching setup (at least over here in Oz), how long do you have to be running one in order for the power savings to pay off vs a single i7?

I think Dave, jcool and a few others would be best to comment on that since they know more then I about the Dualies.

What is the longest you have ever gone without eating or drinking anything?
