I know an extra 8 seconds sounds petty, but all my PCs over the past two years boot in 4-9 seconds, so 14 is too long. If I can get it down to 6 seconds, that is huge.

I have only a mouse on a USB, plus keyboard in the standard keyboard port, plus my ethernet connection to my ISP. I'm running vista 64 home premium SP1. Would you suggest starting with SP2 and then add the post SP2 hot fixes? Would that do it?

Thanks again for your help EVA

Might want to read http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...esumeperf.mspx usb and device drivers can effect vista s3 resume time as well. I use PS/2 keyboard and mouse so probably why i have faster vista s3 sleep resume time

my HTPC uses USB keyboard and mouse and s3 sleep resume time takes ages http://i4memory.com/f15/htpc-build-e...pc-v350b-8510/

The same exact thing happened to me. I did not hear a popping sound but the post code indicator went blank and I smelled smoke! The fans were still spinning. This happened within 30 minutes of powering up. I checked over every bit of the pcb and could not find any scorch marks but definitely indicates a fatal pwm problem. New board will be here Thursday.

i don't think there is a default vid for cpus with vcore on AUTO my i7 920 with HT enabled and Turbo disabled vcore defaults to 1.16v. With HT and Turbo disabled it defaults to 1.24v when set to AUTO vcore.

maybe HT isn't really needed ?

Right now running TmpgEnc Express 4 and Authoring Works 4 on 15.7GB DVR-MS raw video record file converting it to DVD-video @19x211 = 4009Mhz at 1.328v with no probs. 5hr raw video takes 71mins to convert to dvd-video and 53mins to convert to DIVX with HT enabled and source raw file on 750GB Samsung SATAII hdd. With HT disabled and source file on single 32GB OCZ Core V1 SSD, DIVX conversion took 43mins - nearly 10mins faster

Recorded Obama's Inaugaration from my HTPC Vista Media Center.

    System specs
    • Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
    • Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit + 2x 120x38mm Scythe UltraKaze 2000rpm 87cfm fans in push/pull
    • DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51 - 01/06 beta bios

    • 2x1GB Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF Dominator + 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ (3x Samsung HCF0)
    • Ram cooling: 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm Maglev fans
    • 750GB Samsung SATAII on ICH10R
    • 32GB OCZ Core V1 SSD on ICH10R
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
    • Vista Ultimate SP2 Beta 64bit / WinXP Pro SP3 full nLite updated hotfixes dual boot

    4009Mhz @19x211Bclk with 8x mem multiplier 3x1GB HCF0 @844Mhz 9-9-9-24
    • Record Time = ~5hrs 50mins
    • TmpgEnc Authoring Works 4 edited commercials out = ~4hrs 57min DVR-MS file
    • TmpgEnc AW4 DVD-Video Conversion with HT/750GB Samsung HDD = ~71min
    • TmpgEnc Express4 DIVX Conversion with HT/750GB Samsung HDD @780Kb/S = ~53min
    • TmpgEnc Express4 DIVX Conversion without HT/32GB OCZ Core V1 SSD @1000Kb/s = ~43min

HT gives a significant boost on properly multithreadaed apps, around 30% depending on the application.
Try CineBench with or without HT, run BOINC or even 3DMark and you'll see a huge difference

Meaning that tool you used probably doesn't support more than 2 Cores, which makes it run faster if you disable HT because then, more CPU time will be assigned to the program automatically.

@RNeon: Fan on the PWM/NB or watercool the PWMs as well
But 70C is well within spec, these are digital PWMs rated for 135C I believe. Anything below 80 is fine 24/7.

I am now testing my new board and had some problems with it. With the latest bios it wouldn boot from my ssd's in raid. That problems is solved with 0106 beta bios. Now my CPU isnt stable anymore at 4.2GHZ. Before i owned a Gigabyte mobo and my CPU ran 4200mhz 1.39v small FFT. Now i can do 19x200, 20x200 1.35v but 4200mhz just freezes my pc. Even at 1.44v! Also in CPU Z i see that the multi jumps from 21 to 20,5!! I did the 21X trick as EVA2000 explained in the start post. I also tried to bump any voltage: CPU VTT/ ICH/ IOH. Perhaps i forgot something??? Anyone tips to gain back my 4200 mhz stable CPU?
