How do you like the lens? I'm looking at it as a lens to replace my 18-55 as I almost never use the 18-25 area and the extra speed would be great.

I just bought it yesterday, but so far i like it.
af speed and picture quality (?) on nikon d700 are good
its small and light, built quality is ok but not great.
you could take a look at sigma 24-70 2.8. i used this lense on my pentax and i liked it. it has great build quality but is big and heavy compared to the tamron lense. i think af from tamron is a bit faster.

Yugen, 1D? How? When?

I had the D70 as a hold-over until I could afford a Canon body that didn't feel uncomfortable in my hands, everything except its crappy battery life is awesome. D70's battery performance is like a freaking Energizer bunny, where charging the thing before going out to shoot was an afterthought, so it's a bit of a slap in the face to have to constantly worry about it. Lovin' the images out of this thing.

Playground equipment at a nearby park for the kids to tip-toe on, I guess. Damn near suicide to go on that thing at this time of year, with all the condensation from the beautiful fog we've been getting lately

Not to be a jerk, but that doesnt seem like a very smart choice. the first 1D uses a lower image quality CCD at a partly 4.5MP. I know MP isnt everything, but 4.5 is pretty annoying. You cant really crop at all.

Personally I would have gone with something less professional with higher image quality and a better LCD as well as better ISO performance.

But flash sync at 1/500? Shutter speeds up to 1/16000? Bullet proof build? I think it was an awesome choice. Makes you a better photographer too, teaches you to get the composition right the first time.
