    Cool 4870x2 CF - i7 920 @4.4+ Ghz Air Benching DFI Style!

HD4870x2 CrossfireX with i7 920 still on TRUE120 air cooling

    System specs
    • Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
    • Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit + 2x 120x38mm Scythe UltraKaze 2000rpm 87cfm fans in push/pull
    • DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51 - 01/06 beta bios
    • HIS HD4870x2 + Gigabyte HD4870x2 both flashed to Asus TOP bios - CAT 8.12 Official Drivers
    • 3x1GB Samsung HCF0 based - 2x1GB Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF Dominator + 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ
    • Ram cooling: 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm Maglev fans
    • 750GB Samsung HD753LJ
    • 4x32GB OCZ Core V1 SSD Raid 0 + Highpoint RR3520LF PCI-E Raid controller 256MB Cache
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
    • Vista Ultimate SP2 Beta 64bit vLite'd

While my HIS HD4870x2 can do 850-860Mhz on GPU, my Gigabyte HD4870x2 hits a wall at <840Mhz, so settled for 837Mhz on GPU in CrossfireX. Weird GPUZ v0.31 isn't registering my ATI CCC set GPU/MEM clocks ??

System peak wattage draw = ~915 watts! (probably need a beefier psu ? )

Nice stuff George. How are you liking the new DFI X58? I know you love to tweak their BIOS probably more than anybody.

looking back I don't think it was the psu holding me back as 915W was draw from wall so at 80% efficiency means around 730W draw on system.

Thanks both my i7 920 3836A758 can do this on air cooling - one needs a bit more vcore but it also has better max bclk needing less cpu vtt Only have my Kayl Black Frozen SS 1/4HP here but it doesn't have LGA1366 mounting gear only LGA775 so will be a while.. H20 coming up next though as I just ordered a Fesser 480 rad which I'll pair up with Swiftech Apogee GTZ. Wonder if that is enough for 4.6+ HT enabled 3dmark ???

Revisiting my 4870x2cf with same cpu but new Win7 RC OS

    System:
    • i7 920 3836A756
    • EK Supreme LT 1366 / FESER 480 / MCP655
    • DFI UT X58-T3EH8 04/28 beta
    • 2x HD4870x2 Crossfire (Powercolor + Gigabyte flashed to Asus Top bios) with ATI Win7 9.4 (8.612 WHQL)
    • 6GB Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-2000Mhz 7-8-7-20
    • 750GB Samsung SATAII
    • Silverstone OP1200 PSU
    • Triple boot - WinXP Pro SP3 / Vista Ultimate 64Bit SP2 / Win7 Ultimate 64bit RC

First time using HD4870x2 CF on Win7 64bit RC OS and first time I've broken 30K mark in 3dmark06 and did it without even touching GPU/MEM clocks yet!

Personal best for 3D Vantage as well and with just stock GPU clocks!

Eva great benching mate. I suppose that 4870X2s are still worth benching, mainly 'cause I just saw a kick-ass 2k6 30k score with 2 of 'em @ stock clocks

Keep us updated, I wanna see these hot ladies in red being harassed ... overclocking-wise

Thanks.. i'm just glad the drivers work - wasn't too great driver wise with vista 64bit sp2 and previous drivers even for pulling off stock runs in vantage had app errors hehe.

Have you noticed as well "the boost" you get when benching Vantage on Windows 7 ?

@makaka: I don't want to start an off topic in eva's thread, but I wouldn't personally spend like 1200€ to buy 3 IRams and bench ONLY PCMark05 ... It's a shame that the breathtaking performance deriving from SSDs in Raid 0 is limited due to these stupid caps We want a new PCMark Futuremark ...
