My board doesn't like anything above 17.5x so far. I'm testing 4ghz with 267x15 because it likes it the most this way so far. Quite a bit more voltage than expected though, I'm at 1.5v set in bios, cpu-z is reading 1.52v right now. I think I might be putting the grease in the socket if it doesn't work with this much voltage, I probably will no matter what though. It seems I got a dud of a cpu, won't a new one till AM3 though.
Not much to say right now.

I got my cpu this morning and started with some simple tweaking, I'll use these settings as my base for finetuning. Idle temps were around 30 degrees Celcius and the highest load temp I've seen was 52 degrees, ambient temp is 22 Degrees.

    Okay, here we go:

CPU Model: Phenom II 940 BE
CPU Full Stepping: CACVC AC 0850CPAW
    CPU Frequency: 3800(19x200)
    CPU Vcore: 1.55
    NB Frequency: 2200
    HT Link Frequency: 1800
ACC Enabled(don't know if it does any good yet, I had to flash the bios to 1.5B1 for the motherboard to post with it enabled )
    Memory Frequency: 1066MHz
    Memory Configuration: 2x2GB 5-5-5-15 1.9 volts
    Memory Unganged
Mainbord Model: MSI DKA790GX Platinum Bios 1.5 Beta 1
    Cooling type: Custom water
    Windows Version: Vista Ultimate x64

    Desktop shot of stability testing.

    CPU-Z Validation.

    Shot of the CPU:

    Old guy,

Your results don't surprise me and I don't think your chip is a dud. I've yet to see uber clocks on that asus board "brickhouse" PWM or not.

I have seen the board take a dump when trying to acchieve uber clocks however.

Not saying that the board is junk yet but the trend I have seen is leaning that direction atm.

That cap next to the socket isn't helping people looking for subzero usage out at all either......

Whats your last 5 digits by the way bottom row without me scanning through the thread?

I'll have to check that when I put grease in the socket, I've never paid attention to more than just the stepping so I don't write it down or anything. It finally seems stable with 1.525v set for 4ghz. I bet my gx board would be better except that it maxes out at 1.25vid. With the 1.5v I can set with this board I would have had a good chance at the WR for the regular 9600.

Do you know an easy way to tell when you've reached the limit of phase cooling before you hit positive temps with the cpu? The evap head is sitting at about -38.5C, the bios reads at 7C, and the cpu still reads at 0C.
Not much to say right now.

Well, 4.1 (256x16) looks like it should be stable with 1.5625 set. Made it 15 minutes in with 1.55 and it restarted. Not sure how much farther its really feasible to go, at this point I'm going to be happy to hit 4.5 stable, 4.3 looks to be achievable at least. I just saved a validation of 4.1 so I at least have that for you guys. Won't be able to upload it till later though.

Alright folks to some this is important info as I believe I have the only nvidia system using a Phenom II

Just got the chip in on my MSI 750a, boots up just fine but just a warning the dual-core center diagnostic sidebar for vista will BSOD your PC with this chip, just fyi.

    Chip's stepping is as follows:

    CACVC AC 0850 BPDW

    So far:

    4ghz BSOD on startup @ 1.52v
    3.8ghz to windows @ 1.52v (STILL TESTING)
    NZXT Tempest | Corsair 1000W
    Creative X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
    Intel i7 2500K Corsair H100
    PNY GTX 470 SLi (700 / 1400 / 1731 / 950mv)
    Asus P8Z68-V Pro
    Kingston HyperX PC3-10700 (4x4096MB)(9-9-9-28 @ 1600mhz @ 1.5v)

That board looks nice but the power/reset buttons on it make me worry about the price. Also bothered by the limited side sata ports.

Looks like it may not have alot of usb ports on the back either.
Can't believe they didn't raise hypertransport specs.
We should have a discussion thread for that.

Back on topic lets see some high nb/hypertransport clocks with 3.6+ core clock on air.

Oh man running into alot of issues here. Voltage past 1.5 doesnt seem to get it bootable into the upper 3.8 ~ 3.9 range. Given that I have an MSI board I believe im running into power issues so I decided to start off nice and low.

3.6ghz @ 1.45 seems to be ok so far, I hope I get more out of it than this but we shall see.

Alright guys, here's my validation for 4.1ghz which is currently priming.

Dumo, could you post your stepping and the motherboard you're using?

And for people to post later on, please remember to post everything to make it easier on me when I add you to the list.

Edit: I think I may have found the problem with high multipliers. When I booted up with the 18.5x one AOD would get completely screwed up readings of me being at 4.5ghz instead of the 3.7ghz I was actually at. Hopefully setting the multi through AOD won't do the same thing or it'll be time to complain for a new bios.
Ok, good, I almost went into nerd rage mode when I plugged my shiny new chip in and got crazy readings from AOD. Not only does it read my clocks wrong, it reads my HT and mem speed wrong as well. CPU-Z reads perfectly according to what I think it should, although I don't know if the 1Ghz HT link is normal? I'm kinda new here at Phenom OC'ing.

You're lucky though, I can't even change any settings in AOD, if I move the multi even one notch and hit apply my computer crashes and restarts.

This is on a fresh windows install with fresh AOD install BTW...

AOD is "just" a program relying on "peek&poke" the correct registers in BIos and do similar for the PLL (the latter must be identified correctly).
    Ideally one should think:
Hey! It is an AMD CPU, an AMD chipset! Everything should work!
But most MB manufacturers have their own "propriety" OC-utility, certain Bios-tweaks, akwards PLL..etc.
So "old school" OC via Bios are the safest bet.
Then again, DFI, Abit (uGuru), Asus (AI Tune), Gigabyte(Eyastune) have become rather OK for the casual "clocker".

The other wierd thing is my HT link is stuck at 200x5

AOD worked perfect with my 9950, so I could only assume borked BIOS?

+1 i have never used AOD. its a nice quick solution for testing things out but bios is always the best way. and on some boards with crappy bioses i wouldn't be surprised if it sometimes corrupted them.

Is it just me or is phII 940 REALLY easy to overclock? (find stable)

Also there's something a bit weird about volts with this cpu. When doing prime95 i was watching HWmonitor for temps and i noticed my volts spike down for like .5 seconds when under load. Watchin cpu-z when doing prime95, they go form 1.536>1.52v>1.536. Question I have has anyone else noticed this? I can say that's never happened on this board with my BE-2400 x2, 5800+ x2 BE, and 7750 x2.

Anyways here is my stable OC. (volts 1.52-1.536?) http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=481022
    Will prime it tomorrow after I try 14.5 x 265 to reach 3842 , 265 x 9 NB 265 x 8/9 HT.
