Well looks like these ATI PR slides weren't so wrong:

    Computerbase:

    Rating - 2560x1600 8xAA/16xAF

    ATi Radeon HD 4870 X2 Cat 9.x 164,7
    ATi Radeon HD 4870 X2 151,3
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 100,0
    ATi Radeon HD 4870 1GB 84,2
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 65,6
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 260² 53,3
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 51,9
    ATi Radeon HD 4870 32,6
    ATi Radeon HD 4850 30,4
    Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1,9

    4870x2 51% faster than GTX295 and 65% faster with Catalyst 9.1 (beta ?)

    well; 240 shaders per core...mmmm

yeah i looked at the computer base pages...

depends still on games and settings particularly at high AA 8x at 16x12 (19x12?) and 4x-8x at 2560x1600.

@16x12 with 4XAA gtx 295 will be ahead in many games i think. 4870x2 still seems to own at 8xAA

    Hardware.fr review
Nvidia unveiled its new high-end in mid-December. A preannounce to impede AMD for sales of Christmas, which is fair game. Nvidia has however taken the opportunity to organize its previews controlled GeForce GTX 295 offering an exclusive to a handful of publications, in exchange for which they agreed to test the map of how the marketing department had decided Nvidia , ie focusing around 5 games chosen by Nvidia, plus a free game.

Remember, Nvidia had already tried to organize around limited testing of these 5 games between the Radeon HD 4870 1GB and GeForce GTX 260 +, with little success. With the promise of exclusivity many colleagues have now been more understanding, though some have the honesty to specify the conditions of the test, indicating that the information was interesting until a comprehensive test while others without fear of ridicule, were explained to have "chosen" these games because they are more representative of the moment.

AMD had also organized such previews for its Radeon HD 4870 X2, but this time for "thank" the publications that have agreed to ignore the fact that the Radeon HD 4850 was available on the market before the end of the embargo for the press. These previews controlled obviously harmful to the objectivity of the information. This test is, as you will understand, not part of the preview program and we used our usual protocol.

Guys just chill, one game goes to ATI , one to Nvdia and one to S3virge... It always has been like that and always will be... some games are better coded for a particular card or driver... Both are top notch cards and too powerfull for most our needs... I just wished these GPU's wouldn't consume so much and put out less heat...and would drop drastically in price :p

Good Job Onethreehill finding all them reviews mate
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

When can we expect to see 285 vs. 295 reviews?

Not quite sure I want to pull the trigger on ordering a 295 just yet before I see how much better a 285'll be compared to my 4870 @ 1920x1200.

    For F@H? Lots.

For CUDA optimized SETI @ Home / GPUGrid?

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Not on Vista. Current Nvidia drivers hard-lock the system after adding a second monitor and disabling SLI.

GTX 295 with Geforce 180.88 vs. HD 4870 X2 with Catalyst 8.12 WHQL
Three weeks ago we published a preview of Nvidia's Geforce GTX 295 and now it's time for a full review of the card. What is the Geforce GTX 295 capable of in matters of power consumption, loudness and micro stuttering?

GTX 295 with Geforce 181.20 WHQL vs. HD 4870 X2 with Catalyst 8.12 Hotfix
As announced in our GTX 295 review, we deliver this article to test the effect of the latest drivers on the high-end cards. We used the same test system as we did in the GTX 295 review, but installed the Geforce 181.20 WHQL respectively the Catalyst 8.12 Hotfix which is distributed by AMD and is said to increase the performance with a multithreading optimization of the workload. The Geforce 181.20 WHQL is also available for download already.
