See above what dejanh said.
The VID's are CPU dependent. The Extreme CPU's tend to be binned better. Like my Extreme came with a vid slightly over a volt it was like 1.0xxx. I've seen some with .8xxx VID's. It really depends on the luck of the draw though. Sometimes lower binned parts will have lower VID's just because they are only guranteed to run at those lower clocks. These CPU's go through a binning process.
For an Extreme to make the cut it has the most stringent binning process, because they are fully unlocked, have the higher QPI spec, and are gurtanteed to run at their 3.2 advertised spec.
I still wanna qualify this with "There are NO gurantees with OC'ing". It still applies to this day eventhough it's much easier than it was. ANything you get over stock is just a bonus. If you are looking for 4 GHz out of every 920, that is not gonna happen. If it would happen Intel would be delivering them at 4GHz.
whats the latest news on the throttling problem, im stuck with this board as ive waited too long to return it.
My HeatWare: http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=70151
The MSI Eclipse SLI does...at least it does for the 965XE inside the Turbo mode sub-menu.
There were two options to prevent throttling...one for TDP (temp controlled I believe) and one for over-voltage/over-amperage.
I don't think the feature was available with the 920, but I never went back to confirm after testing the 965XE.![]()

I really can't understand this decision by asus. Two top boards of them and you cannot use turbo on while benching on water, not to mention extreme cooling benching.![]()
For our behalf, did you guys process any support ticket to them so they know that this is serious problem to us?
Not an option. Done by default![]()
From what I've heard...it is a BIOS option...the limit does not need to be disabled for most users, and disabling it by default prevents a safety feature from functioning...why would the manufactures disable it by default...that make no sense.![]()

miahallen you are talking about cpu thermal monitor option, that throttles down cpu speed while exceeding tdp/temp limits.
Turning off that option in let's say ex58ud5's bios you can use turbo regardless of temps/tdp.
The problem described in this thread has to do with asus m/b dropping turbo +1 multi even with "CPU TM" off.
dinos if you got a good relationship with anyone from asus, can you contact those peeps to kick them in the ass and they get on this.

Itīs not available as bios setting, but if you enable the turbo on gigabyte boards you can stress the
cpu with every voltage and the multiplier is still 21 on 920.
look @ my screen in this post:

This ising ridiculous, we buy a top end board and cant even use turbo while overclocking.
Unless we complain like mo fo's this wont be addressed and even then it probably wont be addressed knowing my luck.
I paid $550 for this pos board while I could have gotten the giga extreme for $500. I pay more to geted in the a-hole it seems

OK confirmed from Gigabyte
Definitely no restrictions at all
all bioses are fine to use

Seems to me that it is related to your temps folks.
I am watercooling my i920 and never got the multi dropped below x21 when using turbo.
My temps are going 60-65 tops @ 4200Mhz.
I will give Prime 95 a run @ 200x21 just to make double check that, Screenshot will be here soon.

O.K., retested some Prime95 & wPrime 1024M and it is definitely has to do with temps !
A few days ago I had my case all open and my temps were about 10c lower than now when my case is closed.
As I said, the temps were about 60-65c @ 4200Mhz and the multi was up to x21 all the time.
From what I see now:
At the beginning of the bench, while the temps are raising, the multi is x21.
After a few seconds the temps go above ~70c and the multi drops to x20.5
Sometimes it even drops to x20 with Prime 95 and jumps between x20.5-x20.
my oah my, why did I close up my case![]()
