Then what did they do if they did not process graphics - like graphics processing units do?

Maybe they sat there doing nothing, producing heat and wasting electricity.

Just read the PCPer preview of the GTX 295.. Nvidia has a monster on their hands. Really looking forward to these cards hitting the market, especially if they are sub-$500.

for you being a bencher this is wonderful , for games the card really isn't all that spectacular.

Oh really?Cuz I was looking trough PCGH review and GTX 295 was beating noticeably the 4870X2 in some titles like COD5/Crysis Warhead also from what I have seen Nvidia is quite better than ATi in GTA 4 which on the 4870X2 has problems maybe GTX295 will change that.

yeah 2 games woohoo? thats hardly an ultimatum that the 295 is a beast compared to the x2. in all other games its gains over the x2 are modest to none.

It's pretty sorry that the best nvidia can muster with a die shrink and a combo of 2 GPU's twice the size of the rv770 is a 20% max advantage and ~12.5% average gains on a card released in the end of august of last year.

Is all this hating due to your card not being top dog any more or is it something else? The 295 doesn't make your X2 any less awesome you know.

Actually it is my suspicion that the 4870x2 will equal the 295 once 9.2 is released, I am quite pleased with my card

also with the voltmod and the watercooling it smokes any 295 @ stock voltage

Snipe why are you Trolling every Nvidia Thread? your in this one downplaying another Nvidia card once again. Not to mention all the stuff you started in the 285 thread. Give it a break. The 295 is going to be a great card. And it probably will surpass the 4870X2. Big deal. Live with it.

Don't worry once the 295 comes out you can sell your X2 on EBay and buy the faster 295. Because no matter what you think the 295 will be faster. Remember you can also volt mod and water cool the 295.

Of course someone will. All you have to do is advertise it properly.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

what exactly does "ragged out" mean? my voltmod is clean and well executed, all I would have to say is that it does 900mhz core clock and it we be gone like that. if there is one thing you can learn from nvidia its that all you have to do is say that it's good and there is always someone that will believe you like you were the second coming of the savior and never doubt your greatness

The funny thing about drivers is that both companies release new drivers very often
    Whats up?

Catalyst 9.2 won't change anything, GTX 295 will be faster, not to mention these previews were done on beta drivers so there is still room for optimizations.

Pick up two $240 GTX 260 SP216s (cheaper than single HD4870 X2), voltmod it and put it under water and it will smoke any HD4870 X2s, including yours.

Catalyst 9.2 are meant to be the first drivers from ATI that are Multi threaded & make better use Dual & Quad Core CPUs.

The paranormal powers of ATi fanboys are on the rise when a new Catalyst is announced...

They have done a pretty poor job since the 90s then. Because NT drivers in nature is multithreaded. Its funny how network, controller drivers etc never had these lacks.

And its tragic comic to read this thread. Specially the first pages with rapid people gone nuts. Funny its the "usual" crowd.

    1) false 9.1 or 9.2 will be the release of multithreaded drivers and on top of the normal improvments that come with any driver release the 4870 will once again be the better card the the 260 216. If it isnt then I guess I will eat my shoe

    2) dont tell me what will cost less, my entire card (waterblock+card)cost $400, the combo you just listed would cost over $600 after waterblocks are considered

(a 4870x2 can be had for 449 shipped at ewiz making it cheaper still)

As much as I dislike rules, we need two new ones.

1- No mention of Ati in Nvidia threads (other than in the review it's self).

2- No mention of Nvidia in Ati threads (other than in the review it's self).

Hopefully, this would stop most of the bickering.....can't we all just get along.

Dengyong you have a good point but nobody listen's and this is a review thread from the title .

You should have included no intel in amd and no amd in intel.

The flaming between the companies fanboy's has gotten just about every deneb thread closed, ati 4000 threads I believe have had to be vlosed before aswell.

Weirdly I on't think any or many intel or nvidia thread's have.

Either way innovation on either side is a good thing as prices go down for all consumer because of competition a nice fact we should all keep in mind.
