    My first time water cooling

Over my vacation, i got bored and decided i felt like building something, so i ordered some stuff for my first water cooling attempt. My goals are to have a quiet system that gives me better cooling then air; so I can push my components a little more.

    On the way from NCIX:
    Code:
    1x Feser One X-360 TFC Xchanger Triple 120MM - 1/2" OD barbs
1x Swiftech APOGEE GTZ LGA775 CPU Water Block - 1/2" OD barbs
    1x Swiftech MCP655 12V Industrial Water Cooling Pump - 1/2" OD barbs
1x Petra PT_NUKE -PHN Concentrated Biocide Water
    On the way from Jab-tech:
    Code:
    2x Dangerden Fillport - Delrin - 1/2" OD barb
    1x 1/2"T Line for 1/2" ID Tubing - Clear
    1x Wye Fitting - 1/2" - Clear
10x Plastic Tubing Clamps - Black
    2 x EK High-Flow Fitting - 1/2" OD barbs
    20ft Masterkleer Tubing 7/16" ID 5/8" OD
    Pentosin G11 Long-life Coolant - Blue
My main concern is fitting the rad in my lian li v1000. I've come across 2 different sets of dimensions on the internet. But TFC's CAD drawing says it's only 411mm, or 16.18"... which should let it fit inside my case, assuming i have no interference from the top portion of my motherboard. I don't care about blocking top pci/pcie slots, as I only use 1 pcie slot for my videocard (280GTX).

I bought the extra fill port to mount lower in the case as a possible drain port. Not sure if i will use it or not. I also only got the Pentosin G11 coolant to add a slight blue tint to the distilled water i plan to use. For fans I have yate loons, medium ones, that i plan to turn down with a fan controller.

assuming all goes well, I plan on cooling the 280gtx next. I'm not sure if i want to go full cover (cause i might use evga upgrade to a 285 if they are worthwhile), or if i will just go gpu block.

Any critiques, or advice? I already think I should have picked a different pump w/ top... after reading way too much about water cooling lol

Why, it offers no notable performance benefit and makes the standard mounting bracket unusable.

The Detroit top on the other hand lets you reuse the stock bracket and offers a reasonably significant performance boost to the pump.

I've read at lot, before I ordered stuff, and lots after. Not sure what exactly your post is suggesting :P Did I pick the wrong stuff? if so, what?

I've read about the tops for the D5, after I already ordered one. I read that the detriot AC top performed the best for D5's. I might get one down the road.. but I only have one block that is gonna be in my loop, for now anyway.

I don't think you're supposed to mix pentosin and PT nuke, but I might be wrong. Distilled water + PT nuke (Or silver killcoils or whatever if you can get it) should be better.

There has been talk that PT and pentosin can make funny chunks in the loop, never really been verified, how long it took, concentrations etc.

Why would you run pentosin in a loop? Thats the question I ask. If it's a copper/brass loop what does the Pent do? Methinks it's a holdover when stuff like that was needed or the color it gives. With the advent of colored tubing and some better dyes, maybe it's time to adjust our thinking.

I'm still new at WC, so forgive me. I'm only at it for a year and went with distilled and PT, will use PHN or silver next time.
All stock for now, no need for more, but it's gonna be soon methinks.

I was gonna use it to add some blue color. I read of some people using it with distilled water, and PT nuke, so I figured it was okay to use rather then just use dye.

But I don't really want chunks in my loops... so it might just remain unused. Oh well, was only a few bucks lol

if you pick the detroit, follow the instructions very carefully. i've heard if you mount it incorrectly, it can make some weird noises if incorrect.

read the stickies because they HAVE A LOT of info, in general about water cooling. basic water cooling "laws" do's & don'ts. i wish i had read it before i tried my first loop, i'm currently on my third rebuild of my loop; and i'm pretty sure i've got the hang of it just now. read the stickies.

Man I remember my first loop, I was cooling 2 cpus, 2 hard drives and the N/B. Used 3 different tubing sizes and had a single 120mm fan radiator. Surprisingly it actually got good temps until the N/B block pulled the pin out of the motherboard and fell on the grafix card while I was playing a game. I rmaed the motherboard and still use the replacement to this day. The gpu was ok and when I got the replacement board in I rebuilt my loop to be cpu only and also bought better cpu blocks

Why two fillports and a reservoir? I can understand one fillport to use as a drain, but you don't need the other one.

All my parts finally arrived. So I started to check to see if everything should fit, laying the rad and fans in place to see if there is any interference with the motherboard, video card, ect. It looks like everything will fit... it looks like the hardest part is gonna be the pump, and T fitting in the pump lines. I think I can put the output line from the rad on the outside of the drive bay cage,
down to the pump. And put the line from the fill port, down the other side (window side), down to the T fitting.

I mocked up a ms paint drawing of how I plan on putting in my components. What do you guys think? Any foreseeable problems?

the center top barb on the mcp655 is the inlet if my memory serves me correctly... The way the flow arrows and pump alignment are in your picture contradict that. Other than that little detail, the loop looks exactly like the CPU-only loop I just built. Can't wait to see the numbers on this setup!

btw: good idea using the t-line fitting to hold the silvercoil in place in the loop avoiding possible collision with the pump inside the tubing. Looks like you have a general understanding of what to do!

K, I guess i'll double check that lol. If so, I gotta rethink how I'll orient the pump.

I also plan to water cool the video card, soon as i settle on a water block, and if I don't upgrade it with evga upgrade. So I'm gonna wait a bit I think.

edit: You were right, the center is inlet. When I was laying the pump in the case, for a minute I thought to check the paper work to see which was inlet, and output... But I guess I got lazy and assumed i was thinking correctly.

Now to rethink how I will orient it.

just mount the pump so that the inlet faces skyward, using the side of the HDD cage to hardmount the pump (with some sort of foam/vibration-dampener between of course)
