the swifttech rads are for its size excellent, especial when you need low profile rads.

that they cant competent with a TC or a Fesser is no surprise. A TC is nearly double the hight of a Swift.

I'm curious, what kinda voltages do you some of require to run at stock speeds?

im a little disappointed, voltage jumps to 1.248 under p95 at stock speeds for me.

i see people going 4.0GHz at like 1.1X it makes me jealous

You mean if we wanted to see how little juice it would be possible to use and still have it run at 2.66ghz? Not sure. Some guy here was trying to OC just on stock voltages though, not sure how that went.

I'd like to know what the most common voltages for CPU and QPI(UnCore) are for 4.0ghz OCs. I'm at 1.30v CPU and 1.35 QPI(UnCore) at 3.8ghz... which seems like a pretty low voltage to me, but maybe its about right.

1.1v, some boards (P6T) default it to 1.2v

And when you guys overclock, do you burn in your cpu then with a amount of time? Or...

    Thanks!

Got a question for the guru's... I'm running 4ghz at 19x212 with CPU Voltage of 1.375v, is this a dangerous amount of voltage for the CPU? In the bios when I raised it the font turned red. Is 1.375v CPU really that high?

Reverend - yes! exactly - not a lot of folks are hitting 4.2 HT on - including me!
I am thinking that going from air to a good water set up might get me there!

hot n chili - 1.375v is a good reasonable v core IF your temps are ok.

Cool, thank you Steve. I got a little freaked out when the bios turned the font red I guess.

As for temps its 42c right now, just messing around. Whats a good idle and load temp to want to stay under?

When I am not benching with this machine (and that is not often) I run at 4ghz HT off (21x191) @ 1.28125v, see below -

Well, you can always try to tell your place where you are buying that you want to buy a CPU but only if it has ####B### in the code, instead of ####A###. However, there have been some A chips as well that were good for voltages. As they are the same stepping I would say that there may have just been some issues with the very early chips, but I will be able to tell that soon. I am getting a brand new i7 940 from Intel in a couple of days so I am eager to compare it to the existing one. If I can shave down the voltages to 1.35-ish range for 4.0GHz I will be reasonably happy. The 1.2xV chips for 4GHz are lucky even if they are B chips.

Now in terms of waiting, yes, you can wait, but you have to remember, stock on i7 920s moves slow, on i7 940 and i7 965 XE it barely moves at all so you may be waiting for a very long time for them to all flush through the market...

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

    The Feser hands down.

Burn in is a myth, so unwrap it and clock it like it's stolen.

SteveRo, of your list, definitely the Feser is best, and unless Koolance has moved from Al, avoid it like the plague.

I don't believe in burn in. 12 years overclocking I have never seen any benefit to burn-in.

Having HT off makes the voltage demands a lot lesser doesn't it... 1.28v CPU Voltage is not much. I'm now needing somewhere in the ballpark of 1.385v CPU Voltage to keep my 4.025GHZ OC stable.

usually yes, but since every cpu is different theres the possibility that a cpu would take no voltage increasement at all to achive the same clock with or without HT.
