Thats a good question. I got myself a multimeter. When the vcore is set in the bios @ 1.34v, the multimeter show 1.37v @ full load prime. I also measured the vqpi. When set in bios @ 1.34 it will drop to 1.31 @ full load. Next test will be with LLC disabled. Looks like the Rampage 2 Extreme is overvolting vcore with LLC enabled and has a vqpi droop of 0.04v

Hello im new to this forum, pleased to be here..

i have a question and hope that someone can figure this out with me..
I have my cpu set in the bios at 4.0Ghz (the crazy setting)... now, when i run the vantage benchmark it says on the obr site that my cpu speed is 3.6 ! and i get a score of 24200 (cpu score)(physX disabled)
and when i run cpu-z it shows 4.0Ghz
I had a i7 940 before this one and i had it running on 3.6 and got scores around 22000, now a i7 965 running on 4.0Ghz should get at least 29000, it is def running lower in vantage!
would any of you know anything about this problem?

    tnx

    Edit: also in my windows index it says Intel(R) Core(TM)i7 CPU 965 @ 3.20Ghz 3.70Ghz !
    ???

Has probably something to do with the C state settings in the bios. This should be off. In Windows Vista you need to set the energy settings to high performance. Otherwise the system will change multiopliers and you get very strange results.

You will not get 29000 CPU score with PPU disabled at 4GHz. You will be getting around 24000/25000. Running at 4.4GHz will score you about 27000, IIRC. Your score is fine. Also, quite likely you are running into the issue where the CPU multiplier over 24 is not being read correctly so your speed is appearing wrong.

So whats up with the Cold boot issue? It seems people were trying to pin it on Corsair Ram but it seems lots of people with Corsair didnt have the issue...

I think Corsair was just one of the best deals for RAM with the i7 at the moment.

Any other ideas on what this could be?

I'm quite confident it has something to do with DRAM, but not Corsair, just DRAM in general. For some people 0805 BIOS resolved it, for others it did not. I for one did not have issues in about a week now but not because of 0805 (I tried it before) but because I completly changed settings for my memory and how I OC it.

In short, no, there is no true resolution yet.

Cool, well i'll see how it goes, Im not going to OC my ram at all. keeping it at stock. from what Ive seen I prob wont see any gains from the 9-9-9-24 to the 8-8-8-24 anyways, though I bought the 1600 CAS8 Corsair ram anyways lol

Thumbs up Bios settings for 4.5-4.7Ghz REII

I have been running my board with the latest Beta Bios that i could find , and i got to tell you guys Bios 0901 Beta has been the best Bios for me out of all of them. Even my Raid controller Adaptec 2405 Now works on this board with the Beta bios . I will post Bios Settings for you to try , you might end up around 4.5-4.7 Stable for 3D or benchies , Mind you im running my i7 965 on
Single Stage so go easy on the volts and do it at your own risk .

    cpu ratio - 29 or 30
    bclk freq - 155
    pci-e - 100
dram frequency (depends on the Ram you are running ) Run the frequency closest to your ram specifications.
uclk - at least twice the number of your ram frequency ( ie - DDR3-1600
    uclk 3200 )
    epu frequency - Full Phase
    load line calibration - enable
    cpu differential amplitude - auto
cpu voltage - 1.55v-1.60v ( All depends on your chip )
    cpu pll - auto
    qpi/dram core voltage - 1.52v-1.53
    Ioh voltage - 1.41v-1.44v
    dram bus voltage - 1.65v-2.00v
    cpu clock skew - auto
everything else on Auto ( change your ram timings manually in Bios , disable speedstep and all that crap not needed for cpu , play with those numbers and voltages and find your max stable overclock , every system its different ok ) Good Luck

.., made some runs with CF.., RE II (bios 0805).., 920.., 1866 sticks rated 9-9-9-24.., also with SS single stage...

and a lil wprime.. (made 1024 run 1.488 vcore.., absolut max what SS could handle..)

Its all bout keeping cpu from throttling.., to much v-core and it doesnt wanna play.., keeping v-core to low 1.5 (with SS) gives good push.., atleast with this chip...
I think this combo outperforms my expectations.., hell of power in this lil chip with RE II..

As Chispy says.., go easy with v-core...

Any tips for clocking with HT on? 4Ghz no problem with it off, but blue screens galore with it on using latest OCCT?

Your bclk is 200 I guess.., and running stresstest with 8cores brings heat.., alot of it..
This is a Wprime 1024.., I ran real temp beside it.., evap starts at idle -38 celcius.., cpu close to -25.., end of run realtemp hits +67 celcius

If I missmount evap just a tiny bit.., its a no go...
Test lowering ur clock and c where it actually pulls it of.., running 1.5 v-core gives 1.488 in my case and that is max what SS handles with heavy load...

Sometimes we might forget that cpu is no Extreme.., its rated at 2.66 ghz folks.., bringing 8 cores at 4.0 (+50%) out of it is one hell of OC...

Yeah Scaramonga, I can run 4ghz(4.2ghz with turbo on), but I cannot run with HT on no matter what at this speed. the fastest i can go with HT on is 3.9ghz......At 4.2 I bluescreen within 5 minutes

Hey guys, got a GTX 280 3-way SLI question. How do you drop the card into bottom PCIE slot? I already removed one of the USB and 1394 connectors, but still can't make it go all the way in.

I know this is a bit off topic....but, I am getting rid of my 2 9800gx2's here soon. I play at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. What would be best wait until the 8th and get 2x gtx 295 or 2x 4870x2's? I currently get over 27000 points on 3dmark 06. What would you guys choose?

You might have to mod the usb connectors to be shorter, I know someone who dremelled the little sockets for usb and firewire along with the connectors to make them shorter.....
