Guys, don't bug them. I just posted about that above. If you pester them they will Ignore it. They are working on platform compatibility issues right now. They will be doing that until the RAM development settles. Give them a break. If this is something worth looking into they will.

If that thread keeps getting bumped and rebumped, they might delete it. Let's all work with them, not against them OK? This would be a neat feature, but we won't get it if we're not polite.

Remember, they could just decide to say "You don't have an Extreme Edition CPU, and that's why you're having this issue." Eventhough I do have an Extreme Edition CPU, I'll get on there and help you guys. I'm trying to figure out why I cannot get to the forum. All I get with these links are page not found errors. I can't figure out what's causing it.

I totaly agree with you but...

Is this an official news ?
Because if i can imagine that a company as Asus is or will work on this kind of problem,
it's normal as (thousand) potential future buyers that we are, to ask them an official position, regarding the price of such motherboard isn't it ?
i'm not talking about a milkshake

Remember, they could just decide to say "You don't have an Extreme Edition CPU, and that's why you're having this issue."
If they will say it, it will be their consent that they wont fix it for i7 920 & 940, then it will be called a positioning of market : Then i will give a chance to Gigabyte or eVGA.

Actually, the chance is still for Asus, so i'm patient : But they must know.

As far as I can understand, doesn't the smackover board support turning off the tdp limit? The point is, that this is not a feature to limit overclocks, but rather to just keep the chip within operating limits at stock speeds. Asus, for some reason, decided that it will apply this policy on users that aren't Intel's focus. This isn't like a major update, I would imagine memory compatibility is about 10x as complicated to fix as a simple multiplier switch triggered by a tdp ceiling. I'm only going to be patient for so long, if Asus doesn't even acknowledge this issue, then I will exchange this board for a dfi or evga one before my 30 day return limit on newegg...

I didn't ask yet, but its newegg, I'm not returning it for a refund, I want to exchange it for another board. They're very lenient with this stuff.

I do not agree with you really...

    1. This is not "bugging" anyone. Indeed, if there is an issue we should bring it up and Asus should fix it.
    2. You say that they are "working on platform compatibility issues right now". Like what? Making useless 2GHz DDR3 DRAM work with the board? C'mon, this should be on the bottom of the list. They have not even gotten 1600MHz to work properly, but they found it appropriate to release a BIOS update that adds support for DDR3 2000MHz? If that's called prioritizing then I know nothing about it...
    3. Asus ignores the forum as is. No Asus engineering staff or tech support staff looks at their forums. That forum is run by the stellar moderators like Ulrich and Kensek (hats off to them), and is all based on the "user-help-user" principle. Asus has nothing to do with it. They only host it.
    4. DRAM development will never settle down so this is a game of a cat chasing its own tail. DRAM manufacturers will keep pumping junk into the market for as long as they can rebadge their kits. Asus will never catch up with this "compatibility".
    5. I do not believe in their ability to appropriately judge the importance of looking into this issue, especially after having contact with them about this some weeks ago (even their moderator from the forum contacted them) and receiving a very uneducated response to turn off CPU TM function.
    6. They can always come up with an excuse to justify not fixing things and not introducing new features. That's a given. You just kind of hope that they do not.

To summarize, the more users complain about this and request this feature, the more likely they are to add it. That's the bottom line.

The CPU is running @ 20 * 200 in stead of 21*200. The HT feature sure does add a lot of heath.

So this doesnt happen on the EE CPU? And also how do you find out the VID of your CPU?

You can set whatever multi you want on an Extreme CPU.

Right so even if it "downclocks" after whatever Vcore. Say I input 21 but in windows it shows 20 instead I can just clock it up notch.

Also I thought for CPU VID its dependant on each CPU?

Fixed multipliers will not change regardless of the load. This is to do with Turbo only.

    See above what dejanh said.

The VID's are CPU dependent. The Extreme CPU's tend to be binned better. Like my Extreme came with a vid slightly over a volt it was like 1.0xxx. I've seen some with .8xxx VID's. It really depends on the luck of the draw though. Sometimes lower binned parts will have lower VID's just because they are only guranteed to run at those lower clocks. These CPU's go through a binning process.

For an Extreme to make the cut it has the most stringent binning process, because they are fully unlocked, have the higher QPI spec, and are gurtanteed to run at their 3.2 advertised spec.

I still wanna qualify this with "There are NO gurantees with OC'ing". It still applies to this day eventhough it's much easier than it was. ANything you get over stock is just a bonus. If you are looking for 4 GHz out of every 920, that is not gonna happen. If it would happen Intel would be delivering them at 4GHz.
