Why do you single out the fsb to run at stock? You know very well the NB functions differently on the AMD platform.

sigh just forget it. i was referencing towards the fact that lo squartatore was mad that the nb was running at 2.6. which i don't understand why. if it can do it why not? but if amd cpus are not allowed to overclock the hypertransport and nb then i think it would be fair to not allow the penryns to overclock the fsb for a fair comparison.

Yeah, even though you can tweak it to heaven and it will even let you ,we shouldn't do it.Who needs all the unlocked goodies when you can even underclock it

I didn't say there was something wrong with that, I was merely calling for a stock to stock comparison; when it comes to overclocking, it's a no brainer!

Are we contradicting ourselves again... ? Talking about "feature" turbo mode, and HT (read hyperthreading comes to mind). I wonder if you can wrap your mind around that for me. But seriously, forget the features, it'll all come down to performance - stock, and overclocked. Each platform has ways to wring out the last ounce of performance and the best at doing it will win. Is that fair enough?

Well I thought I had a at the end of my post.. but any who.... stock for stock...then it comes down to price point. I don't know if I remember what we are talking bout anymore lol

Nope,HT and turbo are out of the box.Maybe for you this isn't the case, for me both are fine. AMD sells their chip as fully unlocked and only a "noob" wouldn't use all the abilities.

Well all of those(especially fx parts) were great chips, but didn't offer asmuch in terms of OCing and tweaking as K10.5(thanks to much better process and added L3) . I'm not sure if 9600 phenom you have is BlackEd. or regular, but it might hit 2.8+Ghz depending on cooling and board.
Oh don't get my post too serious, it was under " " . I myself never ran a CPU at default ,apart from initial assembly/boot process. You can see why my OCing standards are a bit over the top .

BE rocks, never got a Brisbane BE,just upped the Mhz to 250 and drop the multi to 12 or 13,set and forget. But Im loving the multi clocking.Never really used multis before even on the mobiles, except to check max cpu, like 202x13 on the Xp2600M.Really thinking about dropping the extra on the Deneb BE.the X3 BEs were a steal, but the Deneb BE will be a little steep for me.Buut the 16x+up multis are REALLY hard to resist once I got the taste.

I ran another test with same 3.3ghz CPU and 2400mhz HT/2400mhz NB, 1066mhz and a lil tighter timings. notice the scores...CPU changed a lil, but the overall went up a lot more.

Nice boost :| realy impressive. I did not know that you would get that kind of boost. Cant wait to start clocking one of these :P. Phenom overclocking is more fun than intel OC. My Brother has a 9850 BE i have a Q9450 and a Tripple core 8450. But the unlocked BE's are a lot of fun with that nb multi.

    Here there's a guy testing these 3 rigs :

    http://www2.custompc.co.uk/phpbb/vie...d20c055f2515c2

Going to test everything at stock, 3.6GHz and max OC for the Phenom-II as well.

    Rigs:

    AMD Rig
    Phenom-II 940 (3.0Ghz)
    DFI 790FX B M2RSH Motherboard
    4 Gigs PC8500 OCZ Reaper 5-5-5-16-2T
    Radeon 4870X2

    Core2 Rig
    E8400 (3.0Ghz)
    4Gigs PC8500 G.Skill Pi 5-5-5-16-2T
    Maximus Forumula II Motherboard (P45)
    Radeon 4870X2

And an i7 in for good measure. This is more than twice the price of the Phenom-II chip but it's a comparrison so whatever. Going to run 4GB dual-channel to keep things almost identical, but will do triple channel as well if I have time (more likely tomorrow) with 6GB.

    i7 Rig
    i7 940 (2.93Ghz)
    ASUS P6T
    4 Gigs G.Skill 1333Mhz 8-8-8-22-2T
    Radeon 4870X2

He says that he can have the results today..or maybe tomorrow, and also that he don't have any core 2quad to compare with..so we will see core 2duo and i7

That's 4ghz air with the pII 920 with like 287 htt which means were gonna be seeing some wicked clocks even on the lower multiplier models.

yea its pretty crazy it looks like the 920 is going to be equal to the 940 almost. just slightly lower overclocks. sorta like how it is now with the 9850 and 9950 they are pretty much the same.
