Arlight .. success with the cooler refit .. change to horizontal mount (fans blowing up out top of case) & redid paste and my temps are down 15C .. Idle's also down to sub-30C for first time ..

Bloody happy with that .. finally !

What are "LLC" and "C-State"? I'm assuming they are settings, but I must not be seeing where they are. (Yes, I realize they're probably right in front of my face.)

LLC = Load Line Calibration = Enabled (AI Tweaker Menu in BIOS)
C-State = Enabled/Auto (Advanced -> CPU Config Menu in BIOS)
The latter one prob doesnt help with OC .. but gives extra power savings at Idle in addition to C1E (which defaults on) .. especially while having Speedstep/Turbo off (which I found only made temps worse anyway) ..

What's the highest OC anyone has gotten on stock volts on the i920? Waiting for my case but I'm thinking I'm gonna try for a 3.4Ghz - 3.6Ghz OC for day to day use. I'm guessing a little over 3 is possible without increasing the voltage but that's just a guess.

A friend of mine bought a 920 with P6T and we did some testing yesterday. Overclocking was easy. All bios settings on auto, low memory devider, only raising Bclock, and we where able to boot at 4.3ghz into windows. 4.4Ghz POSTed, but windows froze at loginscreen. Stock cpu cooling btw![]()

You should be able to hit 3.2Ghz with ease on stock volts .. just change BCLK leave rest on Auto .. it also gives nice memory timings at 1200Mhz or 1600Mhz depending what your running ..
For 3.2Ghz I actually *lower* CPU Volts to 1.2V as Auto has it running around 1.24V .. 3.6Ghz I give it about 1.3V .. rest on Auto ..
It's only 3.8Ghz - 4Ghz things start getting messy in the BIOS

—Life is too short to be bound by the moral, ethical and legal constraints imposed on us by modern day society.
For those screenshots I used:
Multi: 200x20
SpeedStep/Turbo = OFF
CPU Volts = 1.4V
DRAM = 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24
Uncore = 3208Mhz
QPI = 7218MT/s
LLC = Enabled
C-State = On/Auto
Rest = Auto/Default
But it turns out I was only prime stable enough for those snaps .. at 20min mark prime would go down..
Adding the following changes got me about 85 mins of prime:
200x20
DRAM 1603Mhz
CPU 1.4V
DRAM 1.68V
QPU 1.35625V
SpeedStep/Turbo Off
LLC Enabled
CPU/PCI Spread Spectrum Disabled
C-State Enabled
ACPI 2.0 Enabled
Rest = Auto/Default
I think the lower QPI+DRAM voltages were the key .. Auto had DRAM 1.8V & QPI 1.3725V and bumping them higher immediately made things much worse (10 sec crash) ..
dejanh noticed this earlier .. I think the i7's must be sensitive to temperatures generated in the memory & NB paths - caused by QPI & DRAM volts .. which the core DTS's temp sensors cant really pick up - and only water is capabable of controlling ..

I have an Asus Rampage II Extreme which I would assume must be very similar to the P6T. With the stock fan I can get my i920 to a Bclock of 160MHz. I raised the CPU voltage to 1.4V but this did not really help.
I have a Mach II GT cooler which cools the CPU down to -50C. Under a 200W load it goes up to about -10C. The thing is that colling the CPU did not change the Bclock performance. I was still only able to get a Bclock of 160MHz at -50C. Once I had the CPU at -50C I also raised all of the CPU voltages to their maximum safe settings (core voltage at 1.5V) but this did not help.
I am assuming that it is not the CPU that is holding me back. I reduced the memory speed so as not to exceed the rated speed of my memory so that is not the issue. Can anyone give me any pointers?
Ordered my i7 920 today together with a P6T & 6GB OCZ kit. Cant wait to have a go with it.
Will be cooling it in a single loop EK Supreme with TFC480 rad. Maybe we can get the topic starter to keep updating the first post? With general guidelines what works/help improve OC. So we can keep track of all the best settings etc. Its so much more efficient then searching through all the pages an reply's that are sure to follow.

Got my setup today. 920 + P6T
4ghz was EZ-mode. 4,2 is causing more problems. I can bench and stress fine @ 200x21 with HT enabled, but it automatically throttles my multi back to 20.5 when the CPU gets under load. Its definately not the temps, its pretty cold over here. Everest shows slighly higher temps than Realtemp but still under 70 full load....

Heres my very first i7 920 OC on my P6T (using OCZ DDR3 1333). So what do you think? Am I doing anything wrong??? Do my voltages make sense? I was more or less blind guessing.

UCLK (UnCore): 3322mhz
QPI: 7038 MTs

Not everyone seems to have the problem tho ..
Core i7 920 / ASUS P6T Deluxe / 6GB OCZ Gold 1600 CL8 / Noctua NH-U12P SE 1366 / ASUS GTX280 / Zalman ZM850-HP / Samsung 500GB 7200RPM / CM HAF 932 / Vista HP 64-bit / ASUS 22" VW224U / 20584 3DMark06 / Cinebench R10 23238
crazy newbie here......im just setting up my 920 with my p6t and was bothered about core 0+1 being about 5 deg higher than cores 2+3....so in a moment of madness I took the sandpaper to the core and low and behold.....temps have dropped by about 10degrees overall but difference still exists between the two pairs. I guess this is engineered into the core and not possible to remove. Im using a lapped 120 extreme with a push fan running about 2000rpm and seeing full load temps of mid 70's with a CPUZ displayed core voltage of 1.504
Seems like a worthwhile mod
Ive also found the Load Line Calibration useful when overclocking my rig - it seems to compensate nicely for lag in the line and allows a higher overclock.
Will post my final settings when Ive finished fine tuning but so far, Im loving this processor and board :-) beats my old Q6600 easily!
