    No!

    My Spec:

-AMD 9950 2.6Ghz Quadcore Phenom Black Edition Processor
    -Abit AX78 Motherboard
    -ATI 1GB HD 4670 PCI-Express Gfx Card
    -4GB DDR2 Kingston PC2 8500 1066Mhz RAM

AMD Overdrive recognises and allows tweaks to the CPU but the Motherboard and Gfx Card shows no information and cannot be tweaked.

Many months has passed from 2.1.4 release...
I wonder if AMD has forget about AOD. It understandable that it has some issues but not that they leave the application almost in a beta state.
Does anyone knows what's going on? Also AOD should be capable to change the system energy policy and not having to use AMD Power Monitor 123 to do it.
With catalyst 8.12 the GPU engine lecture it's still 0 and memory speed -1.
In it's current state AOD is not a serious solution and unadmisible for a company of the size as AMD.

    Really dissapointing.

Does AOD detect voltage settings from the BIOS? I can't get it to work. If I put memory at 1066 @ 2.2v it goes back to default which cause system to be unstable on startup. I also disable apply last settings.

    This is on 2.1.4 with Vista 64, Gskill DDR2-1000, DFI 790FX-M2RS (SB600) and Phenom X4 9850.

i think you will find they have done what i said they would do, 20 posts back, they have dumped this now, it never worked properly and it still doesnt work, with AM3 on the horizon, and uber clocks being achieved, they will be 'forgiven' by the AMD faithful for this little 'mishap' now they hope it will just disapear.

i will never forgive this garbage, nor will i forget it, they can think themselves very lucky i am still a customer. i fully intend to hold them to task for this, at any opertunity.

very good news, i look forward to it being as bad as the other releases, and nice to know that they officialy dumped on the Phenom 1 users.

    How do you know that?
Will that benefit Phenom I users?

Anyway doesn't Phenom I users deserve an update earlier as ATI releases a driver monthly? At least till achieve some quality in the application? As I stated before they are AMD not the grocery arround the corner. What's going on? They don't have enough developers? A real solution it's avaited not 3 piece of crap: AOD + Fusion + AMD Power Monitor that crash each other...

Does macci work for AMD and still looking at this thread?

I cannot change/apply VID voltage, there is no higher option than 1.25v, and my graphics card status is false (-1 mhz).

    Hardware is X4 9550, TA790GX A2+, HD 4850, 4GB RAM

    My BIOS date is 11-11-08.

Please see my post about AX78 earlier in this thread. LINK

GFX card tweaking is not part of AOD, please use CCC or other 3rd party GFX card utilities.

GFX card monitoring has a problem in AOD 2.1.4 due to recent GFX driver change. 2.1.5 should take care of this problem.

there is a special "AOD block" in the BIOS which tells AOD which voltage rails are adjustable, what the values are set in the BIOS etc. In this case it seems that the Vdimm item is not reporting the proper value to AOD. I've seen this on a couple of boards with older BIOS - please try and confirm that your running the latest BIOS from DFI (I'll also confirm with DFI that they have fixed this).
Just to make sure I understood this issue properly:
you set Vdimm to 2.2V in the BIOS, load OS and load AOD and AOD Vdimm slider shows up as 1.8V (in other words, it doesnt drop down to 1.8V until you hit "apply" in AOD)?
Or does the Vdimm actually drop to 1.8V as soon as Windows loads (and AOD is not set to apply settings automatically)?
If you set AOD to 2.2V it works OK?

Your CPU doesnt support VID values higher than 1.25V - its not an unlocked Black Edition / FX part. Your BIOS probably has an option to apply an OFFSET on top of the VID value (in which case the VID value still remains at 1.25V but the actual voltage level will be higher - please use HW monitor to read the actual Vcore level).

GFX card monitoring problem same as above (AOD 2.1.4 & latest Catalyst versions).

with perhaps the one exception that I would like to have, being the absence of the NB Multiplier.... the HT Multiplier is there, but theres' nothing for the NB Multiplier
CPU NB Multiplier is not adjustable on the fly. Its a technical limitation. Requires a reboot.

VID value is locked to 1.25V max with Phenom 9500 (not an unlocked part).

We are working on getting another "Vcore" slider added to M3A79-T (and some other boards that use OFFSET or VID-override methods).

I am a noob to PC's not to computers. When i saw AOD i thought it might be a good idea.
I have a 9750 w MSI Platinum mobo and everytime-not sometimes-i used it instead the bios it went KE-RASH.
I dont remember the version ill ck when i get home.Just maybe one of those things that work well in theory but not in practical use.

It works best with recent Bioses...As some older Bioses can not give AOD propper info.. Thus not allow some function to work propper. At least this is what ive seen .

though i usually Oc through Bios ,,

AOD has come a long way and works a treat for most users that take time to really know its functions.

On Gigabyte ma790fx-DQ6 bios B6 with 9850, why does the Auto overclock function lower the HT lower and lower and lower till it gets down to around 130 than crash every time?

Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Unhappy

    Macci,

Do you know if there is some improvement in power managment in AOD 2.1.5?
Any chance to replace AMD power monitor and fusion in all in one integrated product?
I really hope 2.1.5 really revindicate AOD since all the previous versions contains several serious bugs not just an improvised thing to promote Phenom II...

Gave this a good test run the other night while doing some cold air benching.

Im impressed really. Definetly not substitute for the bios, but then no software can.

What i really liked was the direct access to the VID, my bios doesnt give me that, at settings over 1.55vid, it gives + on top like you mentioned. With its max setting of 1.7v, 1.5vid + 0.2v bump, i was able to push that to 1.75v, and with some VDD boost from the bios, got my vcore up close to 1.9v, was more than happy with that

Also love the option to ramp up the multis on single cores, and so do my superpi/pifast runs

    My only gripes are:
    - crash on launch when cpuz or other hw apps are open already. I just got in the habit of launching AOD first, then cpuz, never had a problem since i did that.
    - making htt ref clock changes seem a bit unstable. Even lowering them at high frequencies caused lockups, might not be something you can fix though. Again, software can't replace the bios
    - sometimes when it crashes, the Preferences.xml file gets set back to default, meaning i have to set it back to advanced mode from kiddie mode (why is there a kiddie mode in the first place???), and the MaxVcore option gets set back to 0, with no option to enable it in the gui. Is this supposed to happen? its really the only thing that annoyed me.

Not really much to gripe about though, they're minor problems in light of what this thing lets you do, built in stress test is nice too.

Big +1 from me, great work !

That could happen if the stability tester finds any errors. Sounds like your system might not be stable at the default clocks. You are running 2 x 2GB at 1066MHz? Have you tried Memtest (or other stand-alone memtesters) to check if the rig is 100% stable?

2.1.5 will be a minor release, no dramatic changes. AOD3 will have more updates.

Thanks for the positive feedback and detailed report!

    I'll try to answer these:

    My only gripes are:
    - crash on launch when cpuz or other hw apps are open already. I just got in the habit of launching AOD first, then cpuz, never had a problem since i did that.
True, the 3rd party monitoring apps should be closed before running AOD. The reason is that those tools are regularly accessing things like PCI registers, SMBus etc - this can cause a conflict with AOD.

    - making htt ref clock changes seem a bit unstable. Even lowering them at high frequencies caused lockups, might not be something you can fix though. Again, software can't replace the bios
Just to make sure: did you have CPUZ open when it hangs? HT ref. clock adjustment will eventually fail if CPUZ (or other tool that reads/writes from/to SMBus) is running. See if closing CPUZ (or other tools) improves the stability here. the other recommendation is to take relatively small HT ref. clock steps (1-3MHz steps). Also: on some boards the ref. clock adjustment phase takes a relatively long time (several seconds).

    - sometimes when it crashes, the Preferences.xml file gets set back to default, meaning i have to set it back to advanced mode from kiddie mode (why is there a kiddie mode in the first place???), and the MaxVcore option gets set back to 0, with no option to enable it in the gui. This is annoying - I definitely agree (happens to me all the time!). We'll need to fix that.

That actually makes sense about the ref clock adjustments and cpuz. I suppose there's no real clean way work around that either. I'll just have to keep it in mind while im benching.

Something else i forgot to ask, what exactly does that little green button do? lol I've been trying to figure that out, it does seem to have an effect on my vcore, a very minor one, maybe .02v less, but my temps just come crashing down when im idle. I think one of the biggest drops i see was somewhere up around 1.8v, 45c idle, and click the green button and the temps fall into the 20s, although, it did lower my benching scores, so i just leave it as it was.

Thought i would pimp out a couple of screenshots of some of the benching i did with AOD at the helm.

Here's my gold cup pifast run for 9850s. I actually had 4 consecutive runs getting me 1st place scores, first was with 227, upto 231, crashed at 232.

The difference is that if you change the power scheme with AMD PowMon and then you open AMD Overdrive it freezes the pc. So it seems that there is a conflict in some way between them taking control of this feature at the same time. Also is smarter since you can enable disable all at once and not having to use 3 diferent applications.

I want to do some tests with all services of VISTA 32 Home Premium disabled.
Does anyone knows what service must I turn on only for Overdrive to work?
I found one at the top and enable it, but I still get a message that I need to Run it as administrator.
The same message was before I turn on this service, so I believe that maybe I need to enable some more services..
