    ...........................J-MICRON CONTROLLER IS GONE....................................
Sunnyvale, CA—December 9, 2008—OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and computer components, today unveiled the OCZ Vertex SATA II 2.5” Solid State Drive (SSD) Series, a premium offering for enthusiasts demanding the latest technology in this fast-developing sector of the storage market. The latest high-performance and cost-efficient SSD, OCZ has gained momentum in pioneering flash storage technology while maintaining a price point that is truly within the reach of a wide range of consumers.

“The new Vertex Series of SSD drives are a premium MLC based SSD solution that are designed for consumers that require fast, rugged, and reliable solid state storage,” commented Eugene Chang, Director of Product Management for the OCZ Technology Group. “The Vertex makes use of our newest architecture and controller design complete with 64MB of cache to offer faster transfers and superior overall system response times in a broad range of applications and games.”

Offering your system the incredible performance of flash-based technology, The OCZ Vertex Series delivers the performance and reliability of SSDs at less price per gigabyte than other high speed offerings currently on the market. The OCZ Vertex Series is the result of all the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology, including new architecture and controller design, blazing 200MB/sec read and 160MB/sec write speeds, and featuring up to 64MB onboard cache. Like its predecessors the Core and Solid Series, OCZ continues to place solid state technology within reach of the average consumer, and delivers on the promise of SSDs as an alternative to traditional hard drives in consumer targeted mobile applications. The Vertex Series will not replace any of the existing series of SSD’s but will complement them at the higher end of the performance spectrum.

Perfect for notebooks and desktops alike, the Vertex Series is ideal for energy-efficient mobile computing to extend battery life, increase access time, and provide a durable alternative to conventional hard disc drives with superior shock resistance. High capacities and low power consuming NAND flash technology provide the necessary performance and battery life boosts generated by the proliferation of mobile gaming and new ultra-thin laptops. With fast access and seek times combined with excellent reliability, the OCZ Vertex Series SSDs are the answer for consumers demanding this latest storage technology.

The OCZ Vertex drives feature a durable yet lightweight alloy housing, and because OCZ SSDs have no moving parts, the drives are more rugged than traditional hard drives. Designed for ultimate reliability, Vertex Series SSDs have an excellent 1.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF) ensuring peace of mind over the long term. All Vertex Series SSD drives come backed a two year warranty and OCZ’s legendary service and support. Vertex series SSD drives are available in ample storage capacities of 30GB, 60GB, 120GB, and 250GB. MSRPs at the time of launch are USD $129, $249, $469, and $869 for 30GB-250GB models respectively.

It would be wonderful if that extra onboard cache provided similar performance to pairing an SSD without onboard cache with a dedicated controller. Great move by OCZ if they deliver.

Prices were never the problem with the OCZ SSDs, it's the fact that they cause more problems that the ones they solve: making your PC faster (between BSODs)

Oh, you mean Mb of cache, not Gb

I don't really have any issues with my current original Core series 64GB drive, but if the controller is better and the drives are indeed that fast I may have to upgrade to a new 60GB one (sigh, sure wish there was a trade-in option).

Now, which way to the soul trade office so I can get a unit for review?

Edit: this so needs to get moved to "news"
Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.

im sure some one with a core series would want to buy yours to do raid

any way every one is saying if you use a raid card with dedicated cache the stutter goes away on these MLC,s....so having a new controller on the drives with 32+ of cache should eliminate the need for an expensive raid card to make the drives run smooth

Actually wonder how the new vertex onboard cache will interact with hardware raid controllers who already have their caches ? Similar to hdds with their caches i suppose ?

Someone with multiple different hardware raid controllers and a seemingly endless budget for purchasing storage related hardware should test this. Its too bad we never get anyone like that around here.

QFT - & pplz storage sub-system is the slowest of all sub-systems in a PC - & yet so lil attention is paid to it

Expressing sarcasm in written form is a true feat to pull off it seems. I wish I could say this is the first time epic failure has occurred.

This sub-forum is rife with people that provide us with exactly this type of information.

    May the thread continue.

    +1

I was about to pull the trigger on a Core i7 920 build with two OCZ V2 30GBs (69.99/each) and an Areca 1210 ($299.99). We all know we need cache on the controller card to eliminate the stuttering/freezing that you get with random writes. Two of these 30GB Vertex SSDs will save me $179.99!!! I can actually get the two SSDs for $40 less than the Areca controller card itself. OCZ is killing the competition on price.

    AWESOME

EDIT: Anybody know when these become available?
