You didn't go for that super expensive CL4 stuff now did you?
It's useless on the Z7S because

    a) you can't set Ram timings, it just uses 5-5-5-15
    b) you can't adjust Vdimm above 1,9V and you don't need to

Any 2GB 800Mhz stick will run 900Mhz on the Z7S...

Whatever, maybe the new BOINC version uses 1GB per thread, you never know - and you can never have too much ram

FSB 440 is for amateurs.. 450x9,5 is the real deal and yes, your setup is gonna do that without breaking a sweat. Highest I can prime is FSB 452, turned it down a notch for the sake of months' uptime

    I bet they'd do 4,5Ghz
Though not even remotely close to 8*4,2Ghz in PPD...

Correct, only good for an engineering exercise for max speed.
Would make for one hell of an output from 4 cores through!

I'm totally new to Xtreme Systems. I just started my education as a Constructing Architect. We work with CAD and BIM, and i needed a new system that could handle the workload of running up to 3 3D programs at once. This is how i came to XS. As you can see in my sig, my system is similar to some on this thread. I tried to boot for the first time last week but got the same F.F. code, as Jaco gets, on the diagnostics card. Then i found out that it was cause my 1st power supply (NQ giant reactor) only had 2 power connectors for the MB. Ok, changed it to the Tagan 1100-BZ. Now i get past F.F. at least. It goes to F.0. and then 8.0., but gets stuck at E.1. and the manual is absolutely useless when it comes to the diagnostics codes and ASUS is just as useless when it comes to replying to the mails you send them. My MB is Rev. 1.03, so it should support the Xeons(E5420). Does somebody know what these codes mean?
I would very much appreciate some help.
How do i register for WCG? Would very much like to contribute to such a great cause. My system wouldn't run 24/7, but it normally runs about 8-10 hours a day, if that would help?
Do you know what BIOS version it came with? You need at least 0401 probably.

No idea what BIOS it came with, as i can't get into BIOS. I saw a list of compatible CPU's and the E5420 is supported from Rev. 1.03 and onwards, mine is Rev.1.03. I have asked the Asus Tech department what BIOS this board shipped with, but haven't received a reply yet. I haven't had time to try to replace the GPU and install only 1 stick of RAM yet. Will try tonight.

    Thx so far.
PS. By the way, am i in the right forum?

well technically the general hardware forum would be better, but this is the best thread to ask in so it works

First off, WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

There's a good bunch of folks here, and I dare say, some of the best computer experts on the planet. Coming here to ask your dually question was actually very smart on your part, or perhaps providence. We never seem to take offense about staying on topic. In fact, if we don't go OT in less than about 8 posts, something is wrong.... Not too many on the other parts of the forum run duals.... Some of the folks here helped me through my dually growing pains. (I'm running a SuperMicro rig so I can't help much on your Asus issue.)

Bobsama beat me to the post, but here's a couple of links to our stickies that are very good info for setup and tips on how to manage this animal.

This link is the starter link to all topics WCG. This first link on this thread takes you right to the signup page on WCG's website. I'm assuming you already know kind of how this works. We load the BOINC client app on our machines and attach to the WCG work servers. The servers automatically give us work based on the preferences we set up in our accounts. It is pretty automatic and the BOINC client app is pretty well behaved so that it gets out of your way when you are doing work on your machine. Most of us even game on our rigs while BOINC is running. It just hides out of the way until you are done.

This link, started by our esteemed teammate Sierra, is outstanding after you get going and need to customize how your machine(s) is/are operating.

I would highly suggest you attach yourself to this team, XtremeSystems. You can sign up independently if you wish, but we can help better if you run into problems since we will be easily able to see your stats on our team pages. (More on that when it becomes time.)

Of course, your total will add to the grand total for the team, as well as your individual score. Most of us are not about "score" and do not do this for scores. There is plenty of good natured kidding about it, and some rivalry, but that is only because you'll find that crunching steady for a long time is about as exciting as watching grass grow. So, we have some fun with the scores and the general company we keep here.

I kind of liken participating with this group to the show "MASH". It could be as funny as heck one moment, and serious as a heart attack the next. I think you will see this, if you haven't already.

Feel free to start you own thread on any issues you are having getting started here. We are here to help.

    Again, WELCOME!!

    Regards,
    Bob

Just tested my ram in another system. Both modules are DEAD Will RMA tomorrow, problem is that it was specially ordered and took 3 weeks to get to me. It is basically impossible to get hold of FB DIMM in Denmark, unless you wanna buy Cert. Apple modules, wich cost 3 times as much as Kingston. Do any of you know of a reputable webshop here in Europe that stocks this stuff? I found a few shops, but think it so risky to order from a shop in another country, unless it's recommended.
TecToo.de fx. have 4gb kit for for less than i can get in for Denmark.

I can get FBDimm for pretty reasonable prices
You can ask around here, most EU guys have bought something off me (yes, my job is building custom computers ). Usually I buy Transcend or Buffalo with Mac style heatsinks, but I got something new: Compustocx 2GB 800Mhz FBDimms with flat heatspreaders, 45€ a piece (as many as you need)
