Ive had this system boot into windows at 3.6ghz and 3.55 is what I ran for my 21.5second super pi on air warm as hell........lucky I didnt take out the whole mobo and PSU to set it outside on a platform I made from cardboard.

Officially the worst OC session Ive ever had since I started ocing in 2001

    ^^^weird bro, wtf!!

Could you be having any sort of condensation?

Let me tell you about something that happened to me.

I was running fine at 3.3 Ghz, my daily setting. Stable, and all of the sudden comp kept restarting. Brought down the clock, still. Default settings, still. I was like WTF. I have my pump and reservoir mounted inside my drive bays. The hose going back to the res was leaking drop by drop and it was rolling down the front of the case and shorting with my front case fan!!!!

I cleaned up the mess and re attached the hose well into the end of the barb and tie wrapped it. issue fixed and that was my problem.

Maybe you were having any sort of moisture or condensation that you were not seeing? What do you think?

    Thanks Dave.

Well the fan over the PWM block is the fan ASUS provides, it clips on.

The cooler on the RAM is an OCz cooler.

damn at least you found what the problem was, what Im thinking is that the psu was prolly cutting off because it was too cold? Its the only thing I could think, it was 4-5c If it was condensation the system prolly would have had the same problem when I brought it inside but it didnt.

    Btw very nice setup.....

I had the MSI DKA790GX Plat, it's a really nice board and OC's quite well.
There's a reason why they limit the voltage in BIO's to 1.45 though. The PWM section of the board is a little weak (I found out the hard way ), while the DRMos fets supply a really clean voltage, I don't think they can handle alot of power going through them.

Just a suggestion, if your going to run @ high v's remove the little aluminum cap from the FET cooler and put a fan blowing on the whole power section of the board.
Yup , the first thing that I did when I got this board was to get rid of that little aluminum cap from the FET cooler and put a fan blowing on the whole power section of the board (using the same words from your post ) : Pics:

And to cool exactly at the back side of pmw on mobo put a 80mm fan there , its not pretty looking with all the wires and every thing else there

@Titan7171 and MSI DKA790GX Platinum owners we can easily get a cvpu vcore of 1.54v by setting the voltages for CORE & LOGIC part of NB and CPU Properly in BIOS.Just check this pic:

These volts can be changed and you can definetly experiment a little more to find out how much volts you will end-up with on your board. Now after setting these volts in bios boot to windows and set CPU VID & CPU VDDC IN AOD to highest values and VOILA we have 1.54v as shown in CPU-Z.

Mind you AOD will not read voltages properly as it will report only 1.45 or some thing like that.

I was wondering the same thing... I ordered an "Open Box" board from New Egg, all I got was the board itself. Thought maybe thats why I didn't get one.

I think that the M3A79-T doesn't include the little clip on fan in the box.

These little fans have been included with the M2N32-SLI, and the M3A32-MVP mobo's both of which I have..... and they are mainly meant to be used when using watercooling, to supplement airflow that is normally provided by the CPU fan.

I'm not sure why they decided not to provide them with the M3A79-T though... but I have kept the ones I had with the M2N32-SLI, including a DOA M2N32-SLI I bought, and so had some spare...

So I just used the one from my M3A32-MVP mobo on the M3A79-T, and then used the spare one from the DOA M2N32-SLI, for the M3A32-MVP.

Though I did notice that it was a really tight fit to get the M2N32-SLI fan onto the HSF for the M3A32-MVP, and it actually bent a couple of the copper fins.. but nothing major...!!!!

Use the one that came with your M2n32slideluxe Its the same one he is using..Should clop right on

I just installed Vista32bit Ultimate over the weekend ,, So far 3.45ghz is my max vs XPsp3 @ 3.52ghz..So i am tweaking the Os and Bios to see if i can gain that back...So far it seems Vista Dosnt like my Ram being as high so i had to lower it some.. Oh well..Now at least i can start testing my GTX260/216 and 3870x2 in Dx10 mode

Whats wierd is Vista dosnt like my Monitor Running DVI where Xp32bit was fine,,I even tried most Nvidia drivers and still it dosnt like DVI..But on XPsp3 it works fine with Same driver revisions

Hey ,,TITAN,,your running a 4850x2.. Did you Know that Raising the PCI-E lane watts to 200 will let you Overclock the 4850x2 to its max and keep it stable..

It will also take Stress off the CPU because the 4850x2 uses 290 to 300 watts when clocked or running full tilt..75watts on the Pci-E lane dosnt work good for X2series GX2series or GTX260/280..Ive testted this many time with friends cards that ive tweaked for them.

In the Bios the PCI-E setting Menu to enable Multi graphics Press F4 and #2 and #10 are the PCI-e lanes that are 16x slots ..

Set to AUTONONIMOUS and 16x and 200 for #2 and #10 it may be elen ..All other slots keep on Auto...My 3870x2 uses 255 to get 920/2200 on Air while @3.52ghz

I just installed a GTX260 that didnt like to run @3.5ghzcpu..The problem was the PCI-E lane Did not have enuff watts to let it run while my CPU was taking all the power...So again i changed the 16x lanes from 75(75watts) to 200(200watts)

Walla My GTX is now Stable @ 3.52ghzCPU ...

I forgot about Raising the PCI-E lane watts when the CPU goes above 3.4ghz .

this is the Same way i was able to overclock SB600 @3.5 with 3870x2 and 8800GTS(G92)@950/2300/2300.. When you dont have enuff Watts on the PCI-e lane the Card will shut you down after a while or you wont have Driver stability while trying to Overclock HIGH.

Last About the Cold weather and wierd OC.. set your VDD to max 2.8v and use at least 1.5v for both CPU and NB.. Only Raise the CPU Above 1.5v with out ACC.. it should keep the CPU warm enuff to Hit 3.5 but cold enuff to stay stable..The extra Cold Needs Volts for Phenom NB so it dosnt stay too cold..

I.. Usually use less volts with Cold which usually is better but , phenom is odd to oc with cold. Im amazed how Phenom actually Likes some type of heat even when Cold..

I hope you get that 3.5ghz-3.6ghz+ your looking for..

Hmm ya Know it works warm,, So i suspect you need more heat in the Kitchen to thaw @boot..making the NB1.5 will be like a EngineBlanket.. it should keep CPU warm but not too cold while it is Outdoors..

Nice run there . Just wondering if you have updated to the new BIOS for that board? If so, then were you aboe to hit the3.5-3.6 mark? 1406 bios here seems to be more stable. Also when I updated my BIOS now in Everest it says that my board supports DDR3 Ram... I have circled it in Everest.

Have Not tried the new BIOS i might actually go do that right now. But something is blocking me at around 3550 ish MHZ. Windows will just lock and im afraid to throw anymore volts at it. I was up to 1.50 and thats as high as ive had this chip. The temps were fine... say 27c to 39c under load but still acted funny.

Anyways going to flash this new bios in and see what happens!

I have been looking for info regarding this as I am looking at pushing for 3.2Ghz 24/7 settings with highest clocks on NB/HT etc. At moment rig is prime95 stable for over 13hrs at settings in sig.

Could you tell me how you got to the settings you have in your sig, as I cant walk out what you tweaked to achieve it. The closest I can calculate you clock is as follows

    CPU Frequency: 236 HTT x 14 = 3304mhz
    NB Frequency: 236 HTT x 10 = 2360mhz
    HT Frequency: 236 HTT x 10 = 2360mhz
    Mem Frequency: 236 HTT with 800mhx boot strap (i.e. 0.50 ratio) = 472mhz

Ive attached an excel sheet I made regarding Phenom overclocking that I use to calculate the numbers etc, if anyone has the chance can they check this is correct as I am stumped as how you are getting these settings.

Maybe I am missing something big in the bios of my motherboard

Or my maths skills are just terrible

Oh and can peeps post there settings in this thread in the format ive put above, if possible

    HT Frequency: 236 HTT x 10 = 2360mhz

hey thanks for the info, one thing that I noticed is I was overclocking the 4850X2 yesterday with AMD gpu clock tool and I was actually getting lower scores as I passed my overclocks that I was doing in CCC. In CCC i got the gpu cores to 700mhz so I figured out how to use AMDgputool (had to run it as administrator) and first oc to 715mhz then 725 mhz but my score was going down instead of up! So I gave up and stopped. Is the voltage the cause?? As for wattage is that total system power or just the GC?? now you got to know how bad my HD2900XT had to be and they say it pulled 315+ while benchmarking load and I never had a problem.

Ill try it out though as Im a high voltage kind of guy

Hey Guys, Tried the new Bios... Very Impressed.

I went from 3.4 Stable at 1.4volts to 3.4 PRIME STABLE at 1.35 volts. Also raised my normal operating clock to 3.2 ghz at 1.325 volts on both the NB and the VCore.

Im a little sad that i cant seem to push past 3.5ghz. My temps are good and my Chip is good i just cant seem to get a stable run at 3.5 or 3.6. It could be my older board but i just dont think thats the case. Im thinking i need to manually tweak every voltage and give everything just little bit more. Something most interesting though is my OCZ Reaper will not Boot when i set it to 2.1volts. It wont boot on anything other then Auto. Very strange but meh. When i check the volts it tells me its running at 1.8 volts wich is Wayyy under what its rated for. 1.9 i could see but 1.8 seems too low. But the ram timings are Tight at 1066. 5 5 5 15 26. Another weird issue that i have is the Clock skews are never the same.. One will set to Delay 350 and the other will set to Delay 400.. I have no idea what this means :P But i just reset them both to normal and leave it alone.

But all in the 140* (cant remember the last number im at work right now and to lazy to go look ><) BIOS for the M3A32 Delux seems stable and helped lower my temps and Volts required by a fairly significant amount!

I have the same board as you just with 9850, 1406 bios is much more stable, I like it also. You should be able to tweak more settings in the bios in order to get 3.5... Just make sure that you have your RAM set to UNganged, you will get better Overclocks.
