yeah i'll buy that amp meter to check this amp runaway business

are you saying now that amp runaway happens when the CPU exceeds coolers heat dissipation

i thought it was a high volt issue and not this :S

Get your phase tuned for higher load Dino.
You will gain some degrees and reduce the Δt.

there is no one here aside from kayl who lives some 5000km west from me lol

i dont really need to tune it. i just use SS lightly for occasionally subzero tests and yes it would be nice if it could handle higher load but that;s what all those LN2 pots are for right

i am just trying to get my head around how this works

btw i had a watt meter hooked up

ok before i turned on the system i had 560-630W consumption from phase change, monitor and laptop which were all hooked up on the same plug

on STOCK setup 3DMARK Vantage in second GFX test peaked at 1488Watts .... so that means that the system at stock peaked at around 860W (1488-630)

now i am not sure if the second card was drawing full power as it was faulty (could not start system from second card when tested as single) but the setup was as follows

    core i7 920 stock
    3GB RAM kit
    Xfire 4870X2
    corsair HX1000 PSU
    one drive

first thanks for your work!(or fun)

only review about power i found here:
    http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

i am still on f2 bios and as test i played with my old gtr-rams-with not much luck on low volts except crucial 12800-2x1gb till 1600mhz.

then i saw some cheep buffalo 2x2gb+1x2gb 1333 cl7 and till now i am really surprised.-i am only talking benchmark stable.

my question:did you gain some headroom on uncore or qpi with newer bioses?

my max bus speed is 210/213 but only with smallest divider on ram.
i got probs going near 4000 uncorefreq.
with 2:10 is ok till 1900/1950mhz on ram cl8.

thanks for your time in advance.

both pics are near max-mhz with 1,50v ram.
    ich i/o =1,450v
    ich core = 0,920v.

    only diff is qpi/vtt=1st-pic-1,240v
    =2nd-pic-1,320v.

could not look under heatspreader, maybe someone knows the icīs used.-FireStix Pyro FSX1333D3G-K4G cl7.

    very nice Dino
good to see UnCORE clocks that high. i would love to join in the fun but this EVGA board is a bit of a let down. UnCORE multi is locked at 16X, and with 920/940s, i only have access to 2:8...not even 2:10 let alone higher memory ratios. clocking memory past 800MHz is all but impossible. Jake and Peter are going to hate me by the end of the weekend...because they are going to hear about it
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

    hi mate
    SS still
LN2 is not going to impove clocks for 32M SuperPi but i will be able to probably bench vantage at max clocks as my SS cannot handle 280W load very well (around 4.4GHz max for CPU tests)

evga want to have great boards so they will have to listen to feedback from great overclockers ........i know they will listen to what you have to say...i would take it as good advice for sure

oh btw i tested this SS with vantage and CPU tests put out a lot of heat

it is really struggling to do even 4.4GHz

something was odd with GPU clocks...i think i forgot to set the higher clocks on second core so one was at 860 and the other at 750 it seems

regardless i got a pretty decent score for the first try

Uncore is adjustable in latest BIOS, can you confirm?

    Also 2:8 is 1066MHz.

Also 2:10 (1333) is workin on 965 CPU, unfortunately it is not as straight forward as one would think. This is a top priority for the BIOS team so you will see a new BIOS soon that unlocks higher memory ratio's even for 920 and 940 CPU. If you want to use the 2:10 memory ratio with a 965 CPU, you need to set the uncore multi to 20x.

Also it is easy to OC past 1066MHz even with 2:8 memory ratio. 200MHz BClock would net you 1600MHz with a 2:8 memory ratio

    280W?! That's friggin' hot, huh?
How do you know it's @280W? Did you calculate it somehow?

Seems I just have to go with 4.2GHz stable as my phase unit can only cope with like 200W.

    yeah no worries
i'll only test such high volts with SS or LN2 anyways and just for benching my favourite sport > 32M SuperPi
