is it an 4 phase vrm + 1phase memory?

looks the same as gigabyte 4850 1gb own design pcb except that gigas has more caps and better ferrite inductors

Oh crap. Have that Powercolor 1GB incoming as well. So... the mods posted on techpowerup won't apply to this design? (Don't have the card yet, but picking up in a day or so).

That one is nt very clear...will take out card & check again.

Are you sure there's no softvmod for your board? I know there is SVM for reference 4870.

Im getting that card (or, not sure what version, but chance is I get the second rev.), and I really want to get my soldering eq. out, so I for one hope there is a hard-mod solution

Earlier, like page 46 or so, someone had modded a 4870 pcs 1GB, but there are two versions. I still haven't picked mine up (though its waiting for me) so I dont know what rev, but I highly suspect that its the "second rev." which sort of pisses me off, because I read everywhere its crap for OC, and often doesn't even run stable at factory OC (780MHz).

Anyway, renegade - if you take your card out again, could you do me/us a favor and take some more pics, front/back, at as high qality as you can? Would be great if you could!

    Thanks!

Ok, got it confirmed that the version I bought (and still didnt collect/open) is the rev2 of the Powercolor 1GB "pcs". This means, basically, that it is gimped from birth. For example, its supposed to be clocked at 780MHz from shipping, and still, people (buying from the same batch as I) recieve it at a factory 750MHz. This alone compared with the fact that I have read over and over that the rev2 is crap quality, not stable at 800MHz etc, makes me wonder weather I should even open my package?

Anyone here who has successfully clocked/modded (that's what I want to do - hard mod) a powercolor 1GB pcs rev2?

its the same controller like here on my gainward GS its good for up to 970 3dmark @ 1,60V

4phase delivery is great! i wouldnt change card...

find pin 19 on the datasheet and measure resistance between fbpin and ground then set 20x vr between fb and ground, finished.
. . . WHO put this thing together? ME !

can you elaborate a bit may be with some pictures ? Also giving the stock resistance value will be helpful for finding the pin as well

Thanks for the response. I really don't want to go OT here, but its a fact that there are numerous threads on different forums where people complain about their revised version of the powercolor 1GB pcs. Even if the controller is good, can't there be cheapo inductors/resistances etc?

In any case, the card was really cheap when I bought it, so I guess Ill take my chances - I'll be modding some crazy ghetto cooling (air, ofc) and maybe that'll help my case

Could I assume the stock voltage is the same as for reference cards, when identifying the 19'th pin?

Also, anyone knowledgeble on the vmem points? (For the non-reference pcb of the Powercolor 1GB "pcs" version 2...)

    Thanks!

Is that your site? You've vmodded all those cards? Incredible!
Was that a card with Glaciator fansink? Would there be any problem changing it to S1? Is it possible to switch back?
How do you think, is this this card better than the reference, I mean overclocking?
    Thanks again!
P.S. For pencil mod I need to shade between points you've shown with green oval? Did i get it right?

    Hello from germany!
my name is Michael and i following this thread very interested. I got a Radeon HD4850 from Gainward (not the GS one) i increased the core clock to 675mhz and ram to 1100mhz. It runīs very stable. now i tryed to increase the core more but i think the vcore issnīt high enought. i set ist to the maximum (1.18V) now i think i need a pencil mod, but i couldtnīt found for this PCB a pencil mod? when yes, how?

    anyone an idea?

thank you very much an best regards

    Michael

Thanks to ceemic and the help of a curcuit-savvy friend, Im on this. I will probably make at least the GPU-mod this evening (+1 GMT here, so... later). I found a vMem measurment spot, and have identified the vGPU-soldering and measurement point.

Not sure Ill make anything of the mem-mod (wont make much of a difference it seems), and I need to confirm what VR to use for the GPU mod. When I do, and finish the mod, Ill post pics for you here, and anyone interested in v-modding the non-reference Powercolor 1GB "pcs" rev2.

Side note: My card clocks to about 800MHz/985MHz on stock voltage - artifact free in ATitool (haven't tried for any longer time yet, but preliminary). The temp hardly moved, so I have to assume its lack of voltage that stops me at that point.

    Powercolor rev2 4870 1GB "pcs"

@Gamerviek: Wow! That's yield for your time/money indeed!

Small update on the powercolor 4870 pcs rev2: Measured the FB->gnd and got 16kOhm (from several spots).

Didn't have a 200k+ vr at home, so the testing will have to wait for a while, but if anyone also interested in modding this card could verify this 16k res, I'd be grateful!

Further: Stock vGPU is ~1.31v in windows, no load, and vMem is ~1.6v, same setting.

I was just about to solder on a 100k ohm VR's and I wanted to test the stock resistance for both gpu and mem. I have read that the stock resistance for the gpu is 5.13k ohm. Well when I measure it I get 2.67k ohm. When I measure the stock resistance for the mem I get 3.94k ohms which is exactly what I should be getting.

I do have a "funky" PCB, it's a reference card but it is blue and is missing half of the capacitors on the front. Here is a link to some pics of it.

The question of the day is, should the mod still work even tho I'm reading a different stock resistance?

Anyone have any theories on why I'm measuring 2.67k ohms instead of 5.13k ohms? I did mod the bios to 1.2v as well.
