dng: This is the easiest way Flash Bios:

1) DL the bios from Asus and unpack it.
2) Put the "BIOS.ROM" file in the root directory of a USB Flash Drive.
3) Leave the USB drive plugged in and reboot
4) Reboot and enter BIOS.
5) Open the "tools" tab and select "Asus EZ Flash"
6) The utility should open the flash drive (usually drive c

The you can flash it from there....

thank you very much for your help Dave, so it took long to reply. i did as you indicated with the bios in the root of a usb drive. use the tool in the bios ez flash util. it only recognize the A: drive which i assume is floppy. hrmm, i read the other posts that there's an 0603 bios. i wonder where i can grab this 0603 bios. i just wish i didn't flash this 0602 bios. with the original bios, the board was stable and now with this 0602 bios, the board is not stable at all. i'll search for the 0603 bios.

dng: You should be able to get legit Asus Bios from their site (including 0602, which is the one I'm using)...

If EZ flash doesn't come up with the Flash drive (usually c: ) try using the TAB key to scroll through the options until you find the BIOS file you want on the USB drive...

BTW, I've never heard of an 0603 bios, 0602 is the most recent on the Asus site...

Make sure you have the Flash Drive plugged in BEFORE you reboot, or else the Mobo won't recognize it... You can't plug it in while your in Bios, it has to be there when you reset.

I'm running Bios version "0602".... I flashed it right away, without testing the version that came intalled on the board.

I've actually had pretty good luck with it. I've got 3.2/2.77 stable on XP64 with reasonable V's (1.4/1.3), I don't run X-Fire or anything though.

I have a question for you folks who have had the board longer.

Any opinions on the best OC BIOS for a 1 card 4850 with 4Gb of ram and 64bit OS?

Since Chicken Patty seems to prefer "0403" I'll probably go ahead and try it tonight, seems like he's had the board longer than most...

Yeah bro, i've actually just flashed back to 0403, to me it has been the most stable bios and the less buggiest. when I bought this board there was no bios out yet other than the one they shipped with, but once I got the 0403, I saw a huger performance increase and my stability overclocking was much greater. I have since then used 0503, and 0604 and the worst was def. 0503, buggy buggy bios, and stability was horrible. So 0403 gets my vote bro, hands down in my book.

From that link, choose your board, then choose the OS system you are running. Then got to the BIOS catergory and you'll see all four different BIOS available right now, I believe it is four.

welcome faior, great clocks so far. For stability at higher clocks however, try to keep your HT under 2000MHz and your NB under 2400 MHz as well. Once you find your max on the CPU you can try to higher those certain values and see how far they can go while still being stable. Also, your RAM try to run it un ganged it is better and you should see slightly better performance.

thank you all for your advice. i'm pulling my hair trying to get my system stable ever since i flash to this 0602 bios . i'm almost just about to go back to my old dfi 790fx board, but i'm going to keep on trying. my stability problem is that i'm losing overclocking ability, my crossfire setup is flaky or acts weird with this bios, random blue screen, and one little change in the bios and the system is completely unstable. this is getting frustrating. i guess asus board's never good for me. i wonder if i can sell it for cheap.

Did you reset bios after the flash.. I had too. I kept getting errors.. I no changes made to the bios yet,.. also, every chip is different.. some do better then others...

Hyper Transport (HT)

North Bridge basically handles communications among the CPU, RAM, AGP or PCI Express, and the southbridge.

So after reading the above, basically the higher you clock these things (NB, and HT) the faster they can communicate with the rest of the system. However just like the CPU, they get unstable at high speeds and require a lot of voltage.

I would suggest leaving the NB voltage and SB voltage auto for now, they work great for me like that. If needed then you can start adjusting them manually. when I run them Manual, I ran the HT at 1.26-1.28v, and the NB core at the same 1.26-1.28v. THe southbridge I think 1.24v is more than enough.

thank you all again for all the great advice. i'll try to tweak this board and bios more to see if i can resolve my problem. it could be my cpu doesn't work well with this board. it's a 5000+ BE am2. i got 4gigs of gskill ddr2 pc6400. i pretty much left everything on auto from memory to ht speed. i only overclocked the fsb to 230 with multiplier at 14. vcore is at 1.475 and everest reports it as 1.5. i'm trying to flash it back to 0403.rom bios, but somehow the usb drive is not recognized by ez flash. i'll try upping north bridge vcore and such to see what will happen. board is semi stable at all default settings. if i up the cas latency to 4, instant crashes. i can run these rams at 4-4-4-15 on the dfi board fine. i'll either use this bios for now and hope for a better bios soon or go back to the dfi board and sell this asus board. i really like the new sb 750 though. any more advice you guys can give? thanks in advance.

I've been wondering about the BIOS for this mobo as well, I flashed to the latest BIOS (0602) as soon as I received the mobo, before I had even installed Windows... and havn't tried any other BIOS, I've been thinking about trying an earlier revision, as the problems that were supposed to have been fixed with 0602, i.e. the USB Drive boot problem, where it resets the boot priority when a USB Device is connected, this problems is still happening with me....

I may well try an earlier BIOS and see if it helps OC'ng a bit...!!!

I recently had to flash the BIOS on an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe because I had a no video in windows problem with a new 4850. <- of course there is no indication in the BIOS chagelogs that there have been any bug fixes - just CPU microcode updates...

Anyway I just put the BIOS on a CDRW disc and the ez flash from the BIOS worked fine.

alright, i'm back on 0403 bios. i'm still seeing the same instability. i left pretty much everything on auto. i up the fsb to 230 and multi to 14 which oc my 5000+ am2 BE to 3.22Ghz. i changed memory timing to DCT and changed CAS latency to 4 instead of the default 5. i tried a game in windows and instant blue screen in a few seconds. i changed CAS latency back to 5 or auto and everything seems stable again. is there a problem running 4-4-5-15 on this asus board? anyone got bios settings they can post so i can try please. thank you.

is your ram rated to run CL 4??? Can you provide a link to your RAM please?

that I am not sure off I know the 0403 bios for example had some memory issue fixed and stuff, but don't know if that was one of them.

My best on the AOD790GX so far (not stable but benchable). Might push it alittle further with a new memory kit here.
