Well, I took 2 sticks out and got a decent OC at 430fsb. Looks like the 4x 2gb RAM is not going to allow me to push this chip much further than 3.6.

Anyone have experience with fsb > 400 and 8gb of RAM on this board?

Hi After a long time i think is time to do some changes to my Maximus Formula Se.

    I been running it since day 1 with a QX6700 @ 3.6Ghz 24/7

Iam thinking is i put the Rampage Formula 0601 Bios i might be able to get it a bit higher. My intention is 24/7 settings anything above 3.6Ghz

Any suggestions? Do you think will go higher?

So is 0601 really any better than 0308 for a non EO chip? What about a QX6850?

    Thanks,

btw, DIMMS 1&2 don't work with Command Rate at 1N, just the 3&4

I find 601 decent but didnt have a alot of time to play with it.
My Max X38 is off to Asus cause of Zucker2k
308 is still best for bandwidth and if your happy on it no need to switch imo

Unfortunately, the NB voltage often needs that much to get up there with 8gb of RAM on this board.

no biggie if you dont mind killing hardware

I would try to lower FSBT, PLL , NB is not an issue if temps are under control.

I'm just getting used to this chip and figuring out what it like on this board, but overall I need less volts through the board than my e6700 needed. Like you though, I think I need my NB under water to give it enough volts to run much over 450 with my 8gb o RAM. I've gotten it to boot at 475fsb w/ 1.72 NBv, but it dumped shortly after.

Update: seems my NB temps and voltage are going to be a pain with this chip. Even at 420fsb i had a hard time adequately cooling the NB below 60c with the volts needed (1.68v) to keep the system solid. Looks like I'm tweaking the system at 400fsb until I can cool the NB down.

You feel like popping 8gb of RAM in there and tell me how it fares? I'm tempted to upgrade my mobo as well, but I need verification that it'll be worth my while.

8GBs on the Maximus is easy, your problem is OCZ ram and this board dont play well.
GSkill, Mushkin and Corsair are good

Post your bios setup for what your trying for

So far, this hasn't worked out too well for me. The best I can get it a boot into windows but the system blue screens after 30 seconds if it doesn't freeze before that.

The best stable config I've gotten so far is 400fsb, Performance level auto (13) and NB/SB voltages much less than that.

thus far, I haven't had any performance or compatibility issue w/ the OCZ sticks. I have to manually set the Row Refresh Cycle Time, but that's it.

One thing I've noticed with the Rampage bios is that is was easier to get the system to boot at different settings, but at the same time more difficult to get things stable. There is an ass load of setting in there.
