Check the SPD of the dodgey sticks that wont run stock. I have seen some very weird Corsair SPD's, like 0-5-5-15(that was on a set I owned) and other equally stupid settings. I don't know why they don't have better QC concerning this but they have a bit of a rep for bad/inappropriate SPD settings.
I have had and seen other have numerous bad experiences with Corsair ram, IMO the only decent Corsair sticks are the PC-10000 kit, and even then it only really does CL 4 well, it's hopeless at high speed CL 5, like all Corsair ram. However when you factor in the price, none of their ram is worth using, as many other brands do better and cost significantly less.
