I did an RMA with XFX and they treated me like "Gold" That is the reason I asked them to have a support section on XtremeSystems. I will definately buy XFX again.

I'm sorry your card wasn't replaced, but the way you butchered it, I wouldn't have replaced it either. You need to learn some tricks of the trade if you expect to get an RMA after a mod gone bad.

The XFX rep already said if you can just cut the stickerwith a knife where the screws were they wouldn't have any problem replacing the card.

Now however you removed it, I'm going to say, it looked as if you took it and rubbed it on concrete.

It looks as if the sticker is made of relatively thick paper with a clear plastic laminate over it.
When he pulled the plastic off, rather than the whole sticker, it took random areas of the paper substrate with it and only the surface in spots, giving it the "rubbed on concrete look".
It's like trying to pull tape or a shipping label off of a cardboard box. Sometimes it comes off easy leaving the surface intact and sometimes it takes the top layer of cardboard.
I don't see damage on anything other than the sticker and IMO, a sticker should not stop an rma under any circumstance.

after mounting an EK block...my card just died..no water spill no leak..
its really hard to take off the sticker...well as mr waxking says "The trick is not to buy an XFX card if you intend to make any modifications that require removing the label"


ive take it apart gently, you cant even see any scratches on the clip..oh well
the sad part is..i havent even used this card and its just died

No, don't waste your time sending it back. They put this type label on for a reason and the reason is so they can deny warranty if you disassemble your card.

I know there are a lot of XFX fanboys and XFX is probably a good company to do business with for non modders. I just would recommend that anyone who plans to mod their card with a waterblock look elsewhere.

Anyway if you shorted the card by installing an EK waterblock, as I did, who should be responsible? I think EK should bear some of the responsibility. Others on this forum think that the burden should be entirely on the enduser. I just haven't seen any other waterblocks killing card except for EK.

I really don't think warping the card is what kills it.
Something about the EK design that causes a short IMO. If you use the EK again I would recommend using nylon washers and standoffs.-

mate i have 2 of this xfx 280gtx, luckily one of my card sticker was not damaged when i removed it, but the other card(the one i posted) was not lucky enough, i did the same procedure, but it is really hard to take off the sticker without ripping it off, using a heat blower is useless because it would make the sticker adhesive more sticky

my question is, damaging the sticker or not after modding it, will xfx accept the warranty?
actually its only a sticker as you can see on my previous post.

btw this is the rig that i am building (can you say i was careless on my GPU)


I already returned one of my card(the one with a good sticker) to my supplier and hopefulyy have a positive outcome.

my big problem is, will XFX accept my other card(with ripped-of sticker) for warranty??

A picture like this can show nothing of any carelessness, you must be joking. I'm not accusing you of being lazy, but I don't think you know how to take off the sticker properly. Don't bother with a heat gun, use a very sharp blade, works every time, Just make it look nice. XFX wont take it without the sticker because thats how they identify it and issue a replacement. It's the same as erasing the serial number off a dollar bill, no bank will accept it without the serial numbers. This is the same.

step 1. send my 1 card with an unbroken sticker
step 2. wait till it comes back fixed (hopefully they will honor the warranty)
step 3. removed the sticker "carefully" again on the RMA'd card (hopefully)
step 4. stick the sticker on my other card (with the broken sticker)
step5 . send it for RMA

and there you go ...

but still my question was not yet clear

will XFX honor my card warranty after removing the sticker (damaged or not)??
its a simple YES or NO...

or are we allowed to dismantle the card???

2nd card: green LED with display but with special character on the screen...and
with a horizontal stripes as well

xfx should have put a label on that sticker saying

"removing/altering or damaged sticker will void the warranty"

If it were cleanly cut around the screws or the decal had been removed intact and put back we would not have any problems with that. The damage to this card was too much to be able to warranty the card. We have plenty of people, in this forum especially, with after market cooling on our products. In North America that is covered as long as the card is not physically damaged and the card is in original condition when it is received here.

ok fair enough, i was thinking this before but i didnt do it..because it will damaged the sticker too..i was thinking pulling of the sticker would be the best way to removed the sticker..but i was wrong..

heres my 2nd card....
funny thing is there is a sticker(xfx logo) covering the hub of the fan
it fell off while using it for an hour..lol!...

do you have a heat gun? that sticker falling off clearly tells you what deactivates the adhesive on the sticker...

well i will say xfx warranty is great... i had both of my 8800gts 512's die within 1 day... i believe one got hurt... which in turn hurt the mobo and i wasnt aware... and when i swapped them to test killed teh second card....

i called and between i believe it was daniel and bryan.... they let me drop them off... (i live like 5-10 min away) and they called me next within a day or 2 and had cards for me to pick up...

i believe everyone deserves a reasonable expectation of warranty.... but when your card looks like you took a bench grinder to it... i say that the supplier XFX has a reasonable expectation of you the customer to return a card that resembles a card that you got....
