New penalty box for Xtreme penalties.

Note: Dak is trapped in the penalty box. He was caught drinking Foxtrot's Grey Goose and refilling the prize bottles with water.

Flagrant Foul! Dak! 1 hr. in the box.

Trust me... it's not that tempting yet. In the last race I did a native Linux install hoping to take advantage of core 2. There were enough a1 WUs that I ended up running 2 SMPs due to lack of proper core usage. One would think F@H would be smart enough by now to identify native quad and 8 cores yet they don't get guaranteed "proper" WUs. They continue to shoot themselves in the foot and step on their own .

    smp for unbuntu http://www.scootplace.net/fah/linuxsmp.txt

just install ubuntu, open this link and copy/paste into a terminal window one line at a time.
if you need windows sharing for fahmon, install samba from "install packages"...

LOL... Hey Mike, I'm pleading ignorance as a Windows user. (almost brain dead) I've never been able to share my linux vmware clients with Windows despite installing Samba and trying to share folders intuitively. No go. I've read there are multiple guides posted on the net. None have led me to the promised land. Any links???

I always have problems with samba, WFO when I first try to enable it... Usually after much playing around in the gui's with prermissions and checkboxes, editing that file, it finally just starts working.. it is always a pita for me, being the linux n00b... Installing the os and smp is cake, the sharing part is always the hardest part for me. follow that guide RR linked and see if it makes it a better experience.

on a side note: mepis http://www.mepis.org/mirrors seems to work almost right off the install.. very little fiddling needed. and you dont have to sudo install the 32 libraries before installing smp. that's the last linux distro I was smping on my x2 4600... and IIRC samba worked without having to edit files. I never could get the wireless nic going consistently though (it would work and then stop detecting), so I had to use the onboard nic and run a cat6 cable... last time I tried ubuntu was when the RC for 8.10 got released.

I may try again one of these days.. I am not looking forward to trying to get gpu working in WINE or binding the wireless nic with ndiswrapper. last time I messed with ndiswrapper, it ticked me off so bad I formatted it. I'm pretty anti linux.. I figured it out enough to get smp working for a while on a dedicated folder (as you can see from that txt link), but I would absolutely never choose it as my desktop os. everytime I try, it throws up road blocks one after another in my desktop needs until I format it.. I've done that so many times, it's ridiculous. If I had some linux training, I'm sure the story would be different.. but I'm not gonna read through hundreds of pages of documentation just to get another desktop. If it were required for a job, I'd do it. but not for kicks. Linux's slogan should be "Always the Hard way"

Everytime I have to drop into a terminal window in linux to do something (which shouldn't be a requirement for a user desktop), it reminds me of being at a Netware server console window. the difference is I have training in Novell, I don't in Linux. so it's like fumbling around in the dark looking for the light switch.

I got pulled away on a personal business phone call with my medical insurance crap.. man, that is frustrating as hell... it's amazing how much red tape can get screwed up with a liver/kidney transplant from almost 2 yrs ago. they are still trying to sort it out. I'm about to pull my hair out over these fckers. everytime they call it's another fiasco of mixed up documentation and trying to screw me out of coverage for something that should have been rectified 2 yrs ago. bottomline is the insuarance company doesn't like paying a half a million $$$ out, even if it is all above board, so they string it out into a long ordeal of not paying or denying over and over stuff they approved when it happened. so we're gonna make everyone jump through hoops in hopes that they'll fail, then we can deny again.

gawd dam this morning has tried my patience. first the insurance crap. then my spreadsheet .ods file finally gave up the ghost and corrupted after 27 days of edits... I had to copy/paste a new ods doc from the web page, and redo today's stats since the first one corrupted during subtotal and charting. what a pita.... my blood pressure is not doing so good bout now... the insurance fiasco got it turnd up and the whole ods file corruption sent me into tea kettle boil mode... anybody have a couple ativan.
