team, I was abit shocked to find my average below the teams average, and it doesn't feel well slipping down the ladder instead of moving up but then I look at the list again and got to say, everyone above me has done what it takes to get there and if I really care more about the science then the points I should be rightously glad you're all passing me

Coo-coo you should start making more groups at the top, millionare squad is a> to big and b> not giving enough credit for the two million, three million and omgwtfbbq more million people

Though.. I got some competative spirit, so I'm hoping to put up a decent fight in the future and maybe consolidate in the top 30 or something. Jeez if you consider I'm still top30 in a team I haven't folded for in a long time, that's paints a good picture of the 'kind of wood' this team is cut out off

I'll give an initial answer sure he'll correct me when/where I'm wrong but he's not posting much and you might be waiting awhile otherwise

Gpgpu is his line of work, and allot of the hw is located in his lab. The custom title of 'Xs's mad scientists' didn't fall from the sky

Marvin got it mostly right. Actually my line of work is software for high performance computing in general. It's mostly scientific stuff. I have a research lab and a small cluster that is dedicated to my research group. Once upon a time, the cluster put out enough points to really elevate our team's standing, but these days, the PC in my office (pair of 280GTX) puts out as many ppd as my cluster .

All in all, what I have folding is...

desktop pc with a pair of 280gtx
2ndary office PC with a pair of 9600GT
lab compute node with 3 9800GX2s, running linux/wine
~16 compute nodes each dual processor opterons (linux 64)
1 compute node with a dual core2 quads.

Oh, posting about my cluster reminded me of something that I think you guys would appreciate. When I bought the cluster, the server room in my lab had enough cooling for the servers in the room and about ~5kw to spare. My cluster draws around 15kw, so they had to add cooling. Rather than get just enough, they decided to plan for the future and installed a cooling unit that has an indoor air handler thats about as big as a small pickup truck. One of these days I need to post a picture of it. It's pretty hefty.
