Jcool, if we BSEL mod our chip to 1600 instead of 1333 wouldnt that change our Ratio from 1:1 to 5:4? resulting in a bigger window to overclock..

with 667mhz ram it might help but with 800mhz ram you'll still be at 1:1 I believe.

Hi s0lid! How are you today?

Thanks to you all for your ansvers. I think I will go for the XSPC RS360 rad. I'm a bit worried that will the pump make enough flow for the loop. Martins flowrate calculator estimates poor flow for it. We shall see.

Now the EK-Supremes fits nicely on the Z7S but not so beautifully as milkmandan's EK's

    Agreed..

And don't worry about the flowrate too much, the EK Supreme performs remarkably well even at very low flow rates, one laing will do the job more than well (I got a gigantic loop with 2x EK Supreme, 2 Rads, Raidcon and HDDs with one Eheim-based pump )

well my problem is the only way i can see the 800mhz ram is to overclock the cpu to 3.6ghz since its 1:1.. i guess ill be happy with that.

Now i got to figure out how to keep the top video card cooler, top one is 70c and bottom is 40 c... big differance

As long as its 70 under load thats ok. If its going higher under load then you can use an application to control the GPU target temperature.

just did a log of it with HDMonitor PRO, while playing COD World at War, it got to 91c.. thats a little hot for my liking, the other one only got to about 55C.. about to order 2 Koolance water Blocks.. i just dont know if my 2 radiators will be enough..

Edit: just got another Radiator, Reservoir and GPU blocks.. ill use the same pump , but the GPU will have its own radiator to dissipate the GPU's heat

I'm getting my Laing maybe on friday or early next week . What do you think could thermaltake P500 pump handle those 2 EK's? Or shuold I just wait for the parts.

This is so hard to be with out a good computer and sitting around waiting

I Just disassembled Kandalfs own loop. And for my wonder what do I find... It seems that there is algy in the system. I don't wonder no more why people are saying so bad things about TT.

Didnt put UV reactive dye in the water did you? People often put way too much in and it looks a lot like algea.

No. I just used thermaltakes ready to use mix (came with the case). It should be distilled water and glycol and UV dye. It's not slimy at all so you might be right that it's not algy. But I would not like to put that in my system again

    Just an FYI guys,

my Z7S is dead I'm afraid.. was testing a certain burnt mem and I guess it fried the mem VRM.. jumps straight to FF when powered on and you can hear strange alternating squealing noises coming from the coils around the mem sockets

Oh well... gonna buy a new one, RMAing this thing is gonna take ages I bet. Guess I'll have an RMAed mobo on sale in a few weeks

That damaged memory stick killed your board ? that sucks

I'm moving to Nehalem soon. The E5420's are on e-bay , the SM board goes to s0lid . The Asus Z7S stays here for a while though

Yeah, it worked fine in another Z7S so I thought I'd give it a try... bad idea.
I'm just glad I didn't send it to you

jcool sorry to hear, but you are not alone. I was building my machine and couple hours ago I noticed that my second EK-supreme was missing the thumbnut's. I hope the board is not too bended from my rough hands. I did some McGyvering to get those EK's on the mobo . Also my order was delayd and the shop says they will get the Laing pump on friday, so it will be shipped on monday. I hope this P500 can do the job until that time. (not as bad as your prob. thou)

I'm about to test the loop in few minutes from now. Why the heck do I loan my stuff to my friends? Always when you need some thing it's not there. How the hell I'm going to power the pump now! Well Maybe I'll use this comp to do it.

Has any one got 4gb memory sticks in his Z7S? And if yes are those performing well?

Erm... I think 1,3125V set in bios, which equaled 1,23-1,24V Vcore loaded in prime95. The Z7S undervolts by almost 0,05V from stock, so you have to increase Vcore quite a bit to get the "real" stock Vcore. I was still running below stock VID (which is 1,250V for any X series Xeons).

I'm getting the Z7S WS tomorrow

I hope that the stock bios recognizes my CPU's ( Q5XQ ES) so i can upgrade the bios.

Good XEON coolers are realy hard to find here so i ordered 2 Thermalright HR-01 X coolers and hope they will do.

It should be with the latest bios

    http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/Q5/Q5XQ.html

It's a X5460 and that one is listed on the Asus site

    Xeon(X5460) 3.16 GHz(1333 MHz FSB/12MB L2,C0) (supported with the latest bios)

When it won't boot due the old bios i have to grab the cpu's from my server to update the bios

If it's a C0, no worries. They work perfectly fine with any bios. Only issues with pre-0401 bioses and E0 CPUs...

Doesn't have any trouble with odd CPUs either, my E5440 ES (B1 step!) ran just fine...
