Hadn't seen that one OC. Thanks for posting it.

Well, even if they're blowing smoke, 7-8k PPD for 300w per card is no match for say a GTX260 216 at 180w.

Agreed. Even with the larger WUs Nvidia still rules for folding. If I was a gamer and I'm not, I'd want dual or triple 4870 X2s and take whatever points I could get for folding.

There something else you can run that runs off your gpu and not cpu?

meaning is there something else i can run along with folding@home that will utilize my video card

** just noticed when I checked my status it shows this for my team

Default (includes all those WU returned without valid team number) (0)

I put in the 36362 for team though in the config... I need to do something else?

Not at the moment, well there is gpugrid on boinc tbh, but it's no way close to being as usefull as f@h ( new project, has to proof itself imo ).

That's the wrong team, keep it running just create a new shortcut with the -configonly flag, then change team number, close client and restart ( just to be sure.. it should pick it up without restart but I'm not sure when, might be after turning in the current wu )

With those Nvidia GTX260 video cards you could disable the SLI and then run the FAH GPU2 folding client one on each card they should generate more than 10K ppd per day. I am sure one of the windows folders could help get you going with the multiple GPU 2 clients being a Linux guy my windows folding setup knowledge is very limited and quite out of date have not folding on Windows in over a year.

I'm asking advice here about moving to folding other than within windows. I've only ever used windows, unless you count stuff like dos which was so long ago....

Now the race is over I want to try to learn the other ways.

Would anyone like to recommend an order of learning eg try notfred first then xxx then xxx then ......

The aim here is to end up with the most productive setup on a q6600 with 4gig and 3 gpu but along the way learn a little about linux and vm's etc.

I just completed a fresh install of Kubuntu 8.04 and then did the wine GPU2 client setup the big thing is getting the Nvidia drivers installed and setup correctly after that the rest is easy. There is a pretty good setup guide on this forum for doing this in Ubuntu.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=199660

And the custom wine cuda wrapper can be downloaded from this website

With the Nvidia Linux 177 drivers on my 8800gt 512mb pny card running stock clocks on the 480 pt projects I was get around 4.6k ppd times around 1min 25 to 30 sec. Most Linux wine gpu2 folders have been reporting ppd as good if not better then Windows.

So do you think there is no need to do this in steps? Just go for it?

I have very similar rig to you but am thinking of putting this on an older asrock MB. I am waiting on rma of max formula for my main rig so am a little limited in having no spare just now

I wanted to try this in a vm to practise but I'm afraid it won't work that way. Xp under vm also doesn't expose the real gpu so am I right to assume I really need to install it as a native os?

Don't have a spare hdd to, and the one with the most space on it is a external usb hdd, don't think that's a good idea...

that can't be the complete logfile .. is it? post fahlog-prev as well if you got it. If you don't have the prev log, and this is all you got, you made a mistake with the install, as I said, did you read the guides? Sli disabled, clients in the right place? You got two cards, you should have two clients running and thus post two logs ( each client in a seperate folder ).

If you didn't do all that, delete your current client and disable sli, then run www.mtm78.nl/maxfah/publish.htm, install the gpu clients and just enter your name ( team number should already be 36362 ), don't mess with the other options and after install go to c:\maxfah\clients there will be a folder for each instance and you can run them from there ( if you want to create shortcuts be sure to change the start folder for each shortcut ).
