Looks like I may have found the culprit a butt load of artic silver spread all over and I mean all over the PWM IC's causing a short and yes one of them is discolored orange. SOB who RMA'd this board as not compatible so now I can get it to power on. Still have to connect all the goodies. I'll post back shortly.

Okay well I finally got it spin up but I'm getting a C1 error. I've tried swapping between 3 different types of memory to no avail. I heard something about these boards having a really low default dram voltage and that could be causing the problems. Anyone know anyway around this?

Okay well I finally got my memory to work but it only works in slot 4 so I think this board is going back.

Q9550 + LANParty UTX48-T2R stuck at 3.4ghz (8.5x400)
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX

Now the mobo defaults CPU to 2.8 (stock speed yes i know) BUT sticks the RAM at 800Mhz....CPU-Z says this is a 1:1 Ratio

If i up the RAM to 400/1066 then all is good but CPU-Z says its running on 3:4 ratio now.

Why doesnt it run at 400/1066 by default.

I have the RAM in slots 1 & 3 on the mobo.

I have a Qx9650 cpu, 2X2GB A-DATA DDR800 DDR2 RAM, DFI LP UT X48 with the latest final bios installed. The power supply is a Corsair HX620W.
I have tested so far on it the 4850,4850 in Crossfire and I am testing now a 4870X2.
I have a lot of weird problems with the X2.I had none with the 4850,even with the Crossfire setup. I first installed Cats 8.11, Vista 64 said that it is disabling one of the GPUs,during the driver installation. After some seconds, the screen went blank and I had to restart the system by guessing when the installation finished (when it asks you for a restart,you have to press Enter.).After the restart,the display was ok,in CCC both adapters appeared and but when I have started Vantage, in the Jane Nash test it was artifacting (like some spikes going up from the water). This spike problem was also present at 4850 Crossfire, but it was solved with a reinstallation of Vantage. Did a reinstall, but the same problem occured.
I have started after that Grid, and there were in the menu the same spike artifacts and then the screen went blank and CCC said the display driver was restarted.
I have uninstalled Cats 8.11,put 8.10. Now the GPUs were appearing in Device manager but with an exclamation mark, and Windows said the display driver could not be started. I have installed after that 8.10 hotfix. Same issue !
I have gone back to 8.11 and something very weird happened. Windows sees the 4870X2 like 2 4550 in Display properties, but ATI CCC sees the card correctly. Also,both GPUs are seen and also GPU-Z sees the both cards correctly.
I have ran this time 3DMark2006,no artifacts!Then ran Grid,which was artifacting,no artifacts! Then started 3DMark Vantage! Same spikes problem!
Could anyone tell me what could be the problem?Why the card does not work with the 8.10 Cats and why so many weird problems in 8.11?In 8.10, not even Aero interface was loaded.

Driver 8.11 is FUBAR, restore your system to a day way before you made salad with your drivers, remove everything from ati then install 8.10 from TweakForce or ATI.

Make sure all power connectors are locked into position in the video cards.

This thread will help you get out of those problems with cat. 8.11

i boxed my board i'm done with x38 guys gl
if even dfi decides to make a bios for e8600 maybe i'll take it out
for now my ut p35 is just kickin ass

if you don't run Crossfire why do you want to use the X48?
P35 has much more fsb

the x38 will clock my gskills 9600 4 gig kit higher than p35 1330mhz 2.1v
the p35 will only clock them 1260mhz n i dont wanna go over 2.09v
thats main reason i wanted to keep x38 but i dont wanna run a 65nm cpu

thats main reason i wanted to keep x38 but i dont wanna run a 65nm cpu

Stick them G-Skill's in the post to me then zsamz, my OCZ 9600's do 1296mhz in my P35 without even breaking a sweat

There is a big difference between running 2x1gb and 2x2gb Kit

So many pages to go through, but does this board handle the TRUE 120? With the northbridge HSF on it? Or it's blocked because of it?

you can do it, you may need to mesh the fins together with the true lengthwise oriented vertically but I don't think it is an issue with the NB HS flipped in the right direction.

you guys want to give me some advice on my memset settings? I think I've overdone the performance level (as in it is too slow...)

(BTW, I've had 3.4 in the past, as my sig shows but I had upgraded my memory and had a really hard time recovering my old OC)

i just got the board yesterday and vista isnt recognizing my 4gbs of ram. ive looked through the bios to enable memory re-map but its not there. is it named under something else or could it be caused by something else? i have latest bios on mobo.

Only a 64 bit OS will recognize above 3gigas.

i do have a x64 OS. i had a P5K SE but just upgraded to the Lanparty last night. with the asus mobo, i had to enable a feature in the bios so get all 4gbs working in Vista. i'm going to re-install my OS as i was told in another thread but i'm not sure that it will fix my memory recognition problem.

There is no such option needed on DFI, it's plug and play. But then again you said you upgraded, did you Format and Clean Install the OS from the other machine? if not that may be your problem.

As above "Plug n' Play". I've never had issues with 4GB+ on this board with a 64Bit operating system.

The LANParty UT X48, LT X48, and UT P45 seem to have 4 chokes around the memory. Two on either side. From the processor Buck converter we have become used to one choke per phase.

What does this configuration represent? Separate 2-phase supplies to each bank of 2? A single 4-phase supply? The inductors run in series for a different inductance.

Note that we are used the chokes being the same size. Here, one is 1µH and the other is 1.8µH. On the X48 boards, one of the chokes in each pair doesn't have a cover.
