No, I am talking about the 828 batch, which is new and no one has recorded yet any performance test.

GTLref settings are just like everything else they vary from rig to rig. Feel free to mess around with them you wont hurt anything. You basically want to find the high end that stops working and then the lowend for each setting. Then pick a value right in the middle. The higher your VTT gets the smaller this range will be.

    I haven't got a 8600, but my Q828 8400 does 4.5ghz on water with 1.37v. Pretty good chip...

I got a Question? when do think the price will start to dropping on the E8600 like it's
lower level brothers like the E8400 & E8500..I just picked up a E8400 EO batch #Q820A832
for $149.99 at Micro Center that's in the States

    @JoeBar

Good Oc brother I know your gonna work with your Voltage some more to try
and lower it as much as you can to get another Good Oc..

    Thanks man.

At first i thought that 1.35v was enough, but after some testing i realized that 1.37v needed for orthos stability. So no lower than that...

    However for a 8400 E0 @ 4.5ghz i think that it's pretty descent vcore. I have a 8400 C0 with a P5E on my HTPC which needs 1.37v @ 4.0ghz.

Temps also aren't a problem due to wc'ing. I got up to 60-61'C full load with 23'C room temp.

Your right things are very picking on these stabling test and we try not to
over Juice these processors to muchor under voltage them either
or they won't pass..i try to keep my voltage within the limits factory specs
when it comes to Oc'ing..i know the E8400 is at 1.362v Limit but..I believe
alittle bit more can't hurt to much just not to hold it there for long period of
    time..

Personally, I would have been quite content with an E8400 EO if I could have gotten one at the time. That was the reason I bought an 8600 as they are all EO's. I haven't seen the prices drop much on the 8600's yet, but the 8400 EO's are certainly a better value IMHO. The 10x multi is fun to play with, but for my best benches and 24/7 settings I don't use it anyway, except for the 4700MHz CPU-Z screenshot, which wasn't any where near stable.
You got that 8400 for a great price, try it out and see what it can do. Maybe you will get lucky, like JoeBar

Got an E8600 1.10VID according to Realtemp. Batch will follow because I'm at work now.

This thing gets HOT HOT HOT. It's absolutely uncontrollable on air. And that's a real pity because I sold my watercooling gear because I decided that a nice and small Lian Li PC-V350B would be a good idea for my daily system. But the way it is now I'm not satisfied ofcourse. Cooler is a Scythe Zipang 14cm with stock 1000rpm fan.

Currently I'm at 10*401 @ 1.25v loaded. Higher is absolutely out of the question as this is hitting 80C in realtemp.

Motherboard is a P5E-VM HDMI, which should be a good enough clocker fsb wise but is letting me down on the memory front. I'm forced to use AUTO settings on both the mem divider and the NB strap, or else it wont boot most of the time. PL is set to 9 btw. BIOS was upgraded to one of the latest.

What do you suggest I do about this mess I got myself in? Hitting myself in the head for getting rid of my PA120.3, Fuzion and 18w DDC is not what I would like to hear.

My old E8600 E0 with VID 1.1625v was the same .... ran hot!
I specifically looked for, and bought, an E8500 E0 with VID of 1.25V and it runs much cooler at the same speeds, even with higher vcore than the E8600.

With Wolfdale, I have found (with E8600/E7200 and E5200) that the higher VID's are definately running cooler and therefore are better for air cooling.

Getting rid of it is not an option for me. These chips are gems when you give them the cooling they need, which I will do one way or another. I'll keep it for an LN2 run anyway.

I think that a TRUE wont handle this beast, so it definately looks like I'll have to mod this case to fit a PA120.2. I'm just hoping someone is going to step in with an awesome aircooler that fits this case. A TRUE wont fit without modding it slightly.

Looking back, I'm wondering if I didnt take the VID when speedstep reduced the frequency. 1.10 looks way too low even for this hothead.

I just got my 8600 installed and so far it looks good. Its a 1.26vid 7/17/08 PD 820A324 on a P5K prem on its own water loop which booted right up at 4500 at 1.32v. Testing begins now, I will post more later.

Ok so far I have been running fine at 4600mhz at 1.368v benchin without issue so I cranked it up a bit to test a quick max, no Orthos or Prime just yet. Just by luck I also lost one good stick of my Ballistix so I had to switch over to either my Teamgroup or Corsair Dom backup so I took the Teamgroup and have not really played with the timings yet though its solid enough at 5G at 1.642v with ram at 668 5-5-5-15 to play. This chip is on its own PA 120.3 loop with a cold air feed so temps never even got beyond the 40s. I just got in my new EK Nickel plated block but no 280GTX yet so I only have one 8800 on water which is ah but this chip is certainly faster then my CO 8400 which maxed at 4900. Cinebench R10 at 5G was 10.710, sorry no pic of that though my Quad system on the left at 3600 kills it anyway at 14,000. I will run it to hell and back and post up some better shots by this weekend but so far Im all smiles. here is a quick run of 3dm06 at 5G with my 8800 on water. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=8934805

In generally in does better, my best OC 5.3Ghz on water my chip, 4,5 stable 1.42 , my 8500 C0 Did 4200 at over 1.45 stable, and by the look of all here, the 8600 does better, but i dont think you have to get a 8600 just couse you want gaming, 4,2ghz are more then enough for any gaming rig, get yourself a better grahic instead

Snatched one off eBay after several restless nights of hell with E8400/E8500.

Stock vCore is 1.216v, stable up to 433x10, tried two hours of Othros CPU Torture before I stopped it to try more. 443x10 needed vCore at 1.285v, and after that pushing more becomes extremely difficult.

Interesting thing is on both E8400/E8500 and the same Mobo, vNB and VTT both needed to be high, 1.49v and 1.50v respectively. But on E8600, the vNB can't go past 1.41v, while the absolutely VTT I could use is 1.28v, anything else higher fails Orthos under 11min. But at 1.22v it lasted Orthos to 27m 6s.

Currently Orthos Small FFTs torturing the below settings:

    Ratio: x8.5
    Strap: 333
    FSB: 530

    NB Voltage: 1.41v (1.42v real)
    SB Voltage: 1.10v (1.16v real)
    SB 1.5 V: 1.50v (1.56v real)
