Thanks for the feedback Deachus, I will try those settings and let you know how I get along.

I keep on getting confused about running Memtest, now I've got memtest 3.8 but how do I get to run it in Dos before booting into windows? is there another version to the one I have? Or is it some sort of setting in Memtest?

You need to download Memtest86 Bootable ISO here

Burn that to a CD and put in your CD drive then restart computer, go into BIOS and change Boot Order to boot from CD drive like you do when you install windows. Once Memtest loads run Test#5 like 4-5 times and if it passes with no errors then boot into windows and run HCI Memtest, LinX and Prime95.

Here is the link to a thread I started regarding stability testing, what steps to take, and what programs to use. Might want to check it out.

Thanks again, I'll try it out soon but good news for now, I plugged the settings you recommend (1.6PLL - 1.32VTT - 1.90 Dramv - 1.58 NB & 0.67 NB GTLv) and booted into windows and windows froze within 2 mintues which sucked. So I thought let me change the NBv down to 1.51 instead of 1.58 and guess what it's ran 2hrs+ of prime with 0 errors (runs around in joy) I know I still need to test more so I'll see what other voltages I can lower, I'm still trying to figure out what sorted out the errors in prime or what combination of changes gave me the stability..thanks for the advice

Glad to here you are making progress. I would say the vTT and/or vNB changes are what allowed you to run Prime95 for 2 hours with no errors. Your vNB was way to low for 4GB of memory. Also, are you running 4x1GB or 2x2GB mems?

Do you know what IC's are on your mems?

Defratos, OCZ recommends using memtest86+ v2.01 to test your memory. I have asked them this very question myself previously.

Hi there Deachus, I've got 2x2GB Ram, I'm not sure what my IC's are, if there's a way a checking please let me know. All I know is they are these:http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...800_reaper_hpc. Stock speed should be 1600Mhz and stock timings are 7-7-7-24.

Yesterday after the two hour Prime test and after posting my reply the computer froze, so I probably have to look into tweaking a few voltages, but this is where I get a bit confused. What would it point to when the computer does fine putting it through a stability test and then crashes 10-15min after strenuous stability tests? would it be VTT or something else like GTLs? and would I lower or raise them? lol I'm just trying to squeeze out every last bit of knowledge you guys may have

Yup I'll be trying this today once I burn it onto a CD so I can run memtest before entering windows, thanks for the linky. BTW this link you gave me is the same program as the one Deaches gave me earlier right?

Just dowloaded Linx from Dualist's thread:http://67.90.82.13/forums/showthread.php?p=3396264 but when I download the latest version 0.5.1.4 it downloads a .7z file, now how the hell do I get this program installed?

I've also downloaded the .exe file but when I try and run Linx it gives me an error file could not find "Linpack_xeon32.exe or Linkpack_xeon64.exe" Now someone mentioned in the Linx thread that I need to d/l the .7z file and then the .exe which I have done but then how do you get the program running after unzipping it?

Ok guys i've burned memtest ISO onto a cd, and changed the boot sequence to the CD drive boots first, but it still doesn't go into the program, it just loads windows up and then I hear the CD spinning but nothing gets loaded because Windows would be up by then, any ideas? an I burning the program onto the disk wrong?

Set it so that the mobo can only boot from the CD, disable the others in the boot sequence.

if that's the same as the Boot sequence then I've already tried that, but I'll give F8 a go and see what happens

It sounds like you are not buring the .ISO correctyl to the CD. You can use MagicISO or PowerISO to burn the .ISO image to a CD.

Yup I think that's what I'm doing wrong, because even when I disabled my HD and only boot from CD it still doesn't recognize the CD as a bootable one, so I must be burning it wrong. I will try the above programs and try to get it to work, thanks once again for the help, really appreciate it

OK guys I've run memtest86 on boot up and it passed test5 10 passes, so I loaded into windows and ran LinX on full memory for 100runs. Went out, came back 2hrs later and it was still running (around half finished) 20 mins later it froze (I wasn't using the computer) it was just running LinX. So anyway I rebooted and started posting here and 5 min later the computer froze. Now why does it freeze when I'm not even stressing the computer? and any comments on why LinX crashed 2hrs in? Would it be something to do with CPU v?

Try also running MemtestX86 Test#7. I received my Mushkin XP3-12800 4GB (2x2GB) D9GTS kit yesterday and I have to say this 2x2GB D9GTS kit is much harder to get stable @ 3.6Ghz : DDR3-1800Mhz then my two G.skill 2x1GB D9GTS kits. I can get 3.4Ghz FSB425 stable with really tight timings but it's taking longer to get 1800Mhz stable period.

After getting stable in MemtestX86 Test#5-7 I then boot into Windows and run HCI Windows Memtest for 30-60 minutes. If that passes I then go to LinX 100 runs Max Memory and if that passes then go to Prime95 for 12+ hours.

If you past HCI Memtest then and fail LinX like you just did then I would say you need to adjust one of the following settings: Vcore, Vtt, GTL's. Maybe Vnb but I don't think so.

Thanks I'll try that, one question though when I run Memtest in windows do I have to run 4 at the same time? Because someone mentioned somewhere that I need to run one for each core or something along those lines. When I run one I just let it run on all unused memory

Sorry, I should I mentioned that. Yes, since you have a QUAD you need to open it 4 times. Then I open Task Manager and see what my free memory is (usually 3200MB) then I divide that by 4 which equals 800MB and I put 800 in each of the 4 Memtest apps and start each of them. If you have Task Manager open when you Start each Memtest app you will see your processor usage go up 25%, 50%, 75% then 100% after you have started all 4 apps. You should see all your Physical memory eaten up also after you have started each app. I usually run this 30-60 minutes with no errors then proceed with LinX 100 runs and Prime95 12 Hours.

Well I just couldn't get 450FSB 1:1 DDR3-1800Mhz stable with these new Mushkin XP3-12800 7-7-6-18 sticks that I received yesterday. They run error free at 425FSB 1:1 DDR3-1700Mhz but I am getting an error or two in Windows Memtest after about 25%. It passes Memtest86 Test#5-7 no problem. I will go back to getting that stable later.

I used the mem divider resulting in these settings and suprisingly the system feels extremely fast and the Everest results are much better than the 450FSB 1:1 setting I was trying to get stable. I am now going to tweak my subtimings and see if I can lower any of them.

    Update:
I lowered some of the subtimings and voltages and Prime95 is running 20 minutes and still going with no errors. I will let Prime95 run overnight then get back to tweaking DDR3-1800Mhz to get that stable.

Thanks for the clarification Deachus, I will try that out after work today. When you guys say tighter timings you mean lower figures to you ram timings right? as in my standard is 7-7-7-24 so if I did 6-6-6-22 this would be tighter timings? and are tighter timings harder to get stable? and do they give you increased performance?

Yes, yes and yes. The timings are effectively the latency of the RAM - they represent the wait period of inactivity before the RAM carries out another operation of the specified type. Obviously, tighter timings = shorter wait = better performance. However, tighter timings = more stressful = harder to get stable.

Ok cool I was thinking along the same lines. Ok I had another question, well a few, now I've changed my testing procedure (as recommended above) and now I'm doing the following:

1-run DOS memtest first before booting into windows Test#5&7 with 10 Passes, if get no errors then I move on to step 2.

2-boot into windows and start running HCI Memtest for about an hour (keep it overnight after checking quick stability)

3-Then I move on to Linx, max memory 100 times, if this passes then I move on to step 4

4- Test with Prime 95 overnight.

My questions are what settings would I need to play with if I get errors in tests 1, 2, 3, 4? I know that if I pass 1+2 but fail LinX then I should play around with Vcore, Vtt, GTL's. Maybe Vnb but I don't think so. (From Deachus). So if anyone could shed some light as to what errors on test 1-4 would indicate I would really appreciate it (Just trying to expand my knowledge on OC'ing)
