You know, why don't you write a step by step guide for how to do it, it will help us n00bs to remember to not make those mistakes again...
I'll help if you want some more input![]()
Beware if you get some of the bigger wu's you may have a problem with less than 1gb allotted to the client in the Virtual Machine which is why I go 1.5gb on my quad I run 4gb so I can give 1.5 to each VMware appliance so each client has more than 1 gig of memory to use and I still have 1 gig free to handle the desktop and non Virtual Machine applications which might be running such as firefox and thunderbird. However I am usually running the VMware clients on a Linux 64 bit os to start with and everyone knows that Linux requires a lot less resources to run than WinHog so 1 gig for the parent OS is fine with 1.5gig for each VMware appliance.
If your going to run with less than 1gb allotted for the client I would set the wu size to normal vs big so that you do not have a problem and run out of memory and loose a wu.

Well, I gave it 1512MB memory and it still is not behaving like it should. I guess this is no standard behaviour:
Is this still a RAM problem?
Edit: It's both the same VM. First it spouts errors that apparently there's not enough space (on the RAM disk I guess), then it dies. Strange thing about it is that the upper limit didn't change with more RAM (654 -> 1024 -> 1512; no change), so the hell is that? Misconfigured VM?

You should just rinse and repeat aka forget what you done now and try again following maybe the steps I put in the other thread? It works for me, though I'm a first time vm user so I don't know the ins and outs of certain situations as well. I did get some of the larger wu's already and they went fine with just 768mb. Think we should move this discussion to a seperate thread though?

any one else having issues with these work units. the gpu client is chugging along nicely. would the mpich client be better. also would going from 2gb of ram to 4 effect anything.

I'm sorry, but I never ran DEINO, but I heard that it's slower than MPICH. I guess all of us here run the latter. Marvin already asked you and if you answered then I'm sorry I must have missed that, but what your Quad running at? That would be interesting to know to say what's "wrong" (nothing looks wrong there, no error no nothing, just sloooow).
Edit: I just noticed you're running stock cooling, on CPU too? If you are OC'd and run stock stock there too you might be running into thermal throttling. Those Q6600 throw some serious heat at the HSF, even my TRUE120 with two UltraKaze @2000 RPM is barely keeping it under 60°C in a warm room...

Deino vs Mpich isn't noticeable slower or quicker afaik. Their just diffrent libraries which allow threads to communicate with eachother, and deino doesn't have a x64 version so they had to use Mpich for that.
Jettasin why don't you indeed post some full specs?

I just noticed Mak and I have a little battle going... he's edged me out on week1 and week3, and would be beating me if not for the hiccup on week2.
Ow Mike, that stats thingy I showed you, it hasn't missed an update since I changed the download method, and I found a free lib to generate webcharts, just have to look very hard on how to use it as the documentation isn't that abundant. I think the best option if after I get the html generator working, is to show you some possible charts and have it upload the charts to your server after each update automaticly? That would save you allot of time, and it would keep me happy since I'm worried about my isp's broken measuring method for monitoring traffic on my own site ( and I do have a bw limit.. idk though if they charge me for anything I'll sue because how can I keep myself from going over the limit when I don't have a way to keep an eye on itbtw you're an it guy you know of an easier to use library then http://www.carlosag.net/Tools/WebChart/ ?
we'll work on it next race. right now I've got a method that only takes about 15 minutes a day... and I'm already 75% done with this race.. It would take me a lot longer to figure out how to utilize that app and use it for the last week, when I've already done 3 weeks like it's done now. plus you need to read weekly totals for this race, then total the weeks 1-4 for running totals for each team... which I've already done the legwork on 3/4 of this race.. grand total, daily total, and all the other updates dont really have any relevance in this one.... why don't you work on it since it's your app, then when you get it all fine tuned before the next race I'll help you get it ready for prime time. If you need hosting to test it right now, you still have a full permissions ftp account to the XS dir on my domain.. Pm me if you lost the user/pass..
I'd really like to get another volunteer for scorekeeping for the next race... I feel like it's a role that needs to be spread around and not dumped on one person every time.
I'm an IT guy with experience and certs in intranet mgm and desktop management through ms active directory and novell zen policy and app distribution. I have never been involved in database mgm or web development.. that was never in my dept... so I'm as much of a n00b as the next guy on web apps if it isn't a citrix server.

Its not overkill if it works.
Q66 is running stock speed. Real Temp is only showing 52C. I dont believe its throttling at all.

2gb ram should be enough I recon, on the other hand it might be cutting it close?
Before I get accused of cheating again, I dont know what is up with the points as I have not added anymore hardware. Maybe they found some lost WUs?![]()
Penalty to RR for cheating and then talking about it in public.![]()
RR is putting up high 57xx or low 58xx's the last 4 updates, before you where at 55xx stable. I only have the updates since nov 12 06:00h PST though
27 WUs and 41K in one update? These "lost WUs" better not reappear.j.k. F@H screws up all the time. Occasional bonus points are always welcome.
It does look like you got double credit based on previous uploads.
My points tend to alternate. 8-10K on one 18-22K on the next. Figuring out F@H is a little like picking winning lotto numbers.
F@H is still accepting my WUs after last night's alcohol induced post. G0-3 has run problem free for 24hrs. WFO knocks on wood.
