Is the X58 chipset limited to 8GB of RAM?

I've only seen this from one source:

    http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2333942,00.asp
One downside is that X58 is apparently limited to 8GB; with three channels of memory to fill, that limits the various combinations you can have.
I can't seem to find anyone else talking about this. Anyone know for sure?

I thought you could fill that baby up with 24GB's of RAM...

but, doesn't matter to me. 8GB's is more RAM than I ever plan on using within the next 2 years.

I did test 9 GB (3x 2 GB + 3x 1GB) on two different boards (ASUS P6T and Rampage II Extreme), so that's definitely not true.

Depends on the manufacturer support, the X58 fully supports 24GB of memory, running 12GB and 24GB on the MSI X58 Eclipse.

i think they are saying that because there arent many kits out there above 3G (3x1) but i doubt it, all it takes is one look on intels site:

wait, intel doesnt even have x58 chipset info on their site!

What's your source of information? As Mr.Guv says, Intel hasn't published anything yet. Extremetech is the only place i've seen talking about it at all. I just read HardOCPs look at the Rampage Extreme II and they say it supports 12GB, however, it sounds like they're basing that on the number of slots.

I know the Eclipse has been rumored to support 24 GB but without an official launch who knows how much x58 supports without added features from the mobo manafacturer.

I have the ASUS Rampage II Extreme, ASUS P6T-Deluxe, MSI X58 Eclipse, and Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 all running 12GB at this time. The MSI would POST and run fine with 24GB, although I could not push it since the BIOS is still maturing. If you need a screenshot, go here - FSX with 12GB .
