OK, lets say you want to keep the Overspeed Protection enabled. What is the 130 watts TDP? Does that translate into a vCore volt? I was looking at the P6T Deluxe bios from the pdf and only see the vCore setting. Can someone please help me with this. There is something I must have missed.

Also, I can't find the detail Intel processor specifications for the 920. What is the core voltage range?

With a Max TDP of 130w set it doesnt take much calculation to decide where the limit is. If your using 1.3v then it will limit at a maximum current of 100A

    Thanks!

I have been doing more reading. I am starting to get a little knowledge.

What about C1E and Speedstep. Would you want to use one or the other or both? You can see I want to power down. I now use only C1E. Seems kind of redundant.

argh... again gigabyte with huge vdrop under load... 1,29375 in bios = 1,24375 under load.

Thats the only thing that i dislike about gb boards...

    1.29375v Bios = 1.264v idle / 1.248v load

but i think my cpu isnīt a 4Ghz CPU, if i change the multi from 19 to 20 then need it more than 1.36v to boot and it is not stable

    P6T Deluxe / Core i7 965 / 12GB RAM / GTX 260 Core 216 SLI / on WATER!

    Hello All..

It has been a while since I have posted anything...but I have a few "goodies" I have just received and have begun playing with. I have attached some pictures of the benchmarks so far..

    The "goodies":

    ASUS P6T Deluxe Bios 0804
    Core i7 965XE @ 1.45v
    12Gb Patriot DDR3-1333 @ DDR3-1680 9-9-9-24 1.64V
EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 SLI Overclocked 705/1560/2200
    2 WD Raptor RAID 0
    Custom Water

Here is a summary of what I have found:

1.) So far I have a 4.2 Ghz overclock stable (so far) I am sure it is not Prime 95 24/7, but it has handled what I have thrown at it. I am running 12GB Patriot DDR 1333 @ 1680 9-9-9-24.

2.) Core i7 runs hot even on a custom water system....I am using the Swiftech Apogee GTZ 1366 with a 3x120 Radiator...At 4.2 the cooling is becoming overwhelmed about 10 minutes in to 100% load... Temps around 100C I think I need a 4x120 radiator....will be looking into the Feser 4x120....

3.) Running 12GB seems to pose no problem.

4.) There are so many new options for frequency amd volatge settings...it is going to take a while to determine what to mess with and what not to...

    More to come this week...

Managerman I was going to ask where you got the GTZ 1366 block ,but 100c damn thats hot!! I think thats way to high for water cooling you might want to check the seating on your block. I sure as hell hope mine doesn't run that hot!

Can't tell you where I got the block...

I have reseated this block on the cpu three times now...I think this is just a really hot CPU! It idles nicely at 47C 1.45V....but as soon as you load down all four cores and the four virtual cores, this thing heats up like a furnace! Maybe i am missing something...maybe it just can't take that much voltage at 4.2 GHZ??

i think your temps are correct managerman, it seems with these new i7 chips that once the volts are over about 1.35 volt the load temps increse massively but although looks scary to see 100c temps, these new chips seem to handle the heat very well, thanks for sharing and decent pics as well

Okay thanks I will be stuck with air cooling when my parts come in this week guess I will have to keep the volts pretty low, since I dont have a 1366 waterblock

Here is 4.1 Ghz at 1.4V in Bios (vs 4.2 Ghz and 1.45V)

    A little better temps...

only 6min and then large FFTs

try small FFTs and you will see 95°C or more again ^^

    Edit: voltage update

    @Chri$ch

did you try to alter the other available voltages to attain 4Ghz stable, or are you just scared by high temps/vcore?

@Chri$ch ... I thought it was impossible to overclock o 920 !!! I did read a lot of people recently saying that there is protection against OC ... WINK WINK ... (kidding)
Main stream people will enjoy their Core i7 920 at 2.66Ghz, but here, that 's a lot of fun.

All of you, feel free to post feedback on any article speaking about OC protection on 920/940.
you ll figure out as well that 940 OC better ... :-)

I'm hoping to get my first Extreme CPU soon. I'm still not certain, but if everything goes well, and I don't run into any unforseen expenses I should be able to oder it on release day which is supposed to be the 17th from what I've been reading.

I also want to put it on a topline board, with high end RAM (3x2GB), and will run it stock for awhile to make sure everything is working as it should, then will clock it on air, and then will install my water loop, and see aht she will do.

My machine will be used for Flight Sims, and some FPS shooters, Folding, Video editing and encoding, as the hub for my home network, benching, running rocket motor flow simulations and design tools, music editing for video stuff, and may even be used as a game server if they upgrade to Fiber out in the black hole of a town that has been twice removed from technology.

It will take me a bit, and i do wanna do things slowly and methodically, but can't wait to see what it will do when OC'd. I also can't wait to put it online and help my Fighter Ops Folding @ Home Team. I'm hoping for 8-10,000 PPD with a single GTX280 on GPU client and multiple instances of the Beta CPU client.

This machine will be my world dominator. It will have to do it all.

Based on these OC's it seems like the 920 should hit anywhere from 3.8 to 4.0 depending on the chip, with under 1.3 volts! With that , i m wondering how much of an OC advantage the 940 could provide given the 200$ price difference, especially if the turbo mode enabled on all 4 cores all the time is substantiated...it would effectively make the 920 a 940... with the +1 multi? The ceiling seems like its going to be 4.2-4.3 on air anyways.. i dunno thoughts on this i guess is what i m looking to hear, or some numbers.. again to me it seems like a q6600 vs q6700 scenario..
