twiddling my thumbs... STILL waiting for the 55nm version to replace my 8800GTX
or for HIS to release an Iceq4 version of the 4870 (with 1GB), not the 4850.

What???
I remember HIS releasing an IceQ3 version of the 3850 (512MB version), in 2 flavors, the Turbo and the Turbo X, and then finally released the IceQ version for 3870 a few months later. I bought the 3850 version but sold it back in like 2 weeks because it couldnt hold a candle to the 8800GTX.
Now, HIS has like 6 different versions of the 4850 (regular, 1GB, IceQ, IceQ 1GB, Turbo, IceQ Turbo), IIRC...
If HIS doesnt release an IceQ 4870, then I will no longer buy stuff from HIS for as long as possible.![]()

http://en.hardspell.com/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=4345It is proved that NVIDIA is going to showed up settlement for dual chip VGA in December, though we did not know what it will be, it seems NVIDIA wants to be the performances king again before 40nm times.
9800GX2 has been out
We can not sure it will be which card and which core, but from what we know it possible be 55nm GT200 dual chip which is similar with 9800GX2.
NVIDIA Security work did well, as we all know, so we believe NVIDIA will have a good lesson from the battle with HD4800 series, added the CUDA and other improvements to response AMD.
http://www.techpowerup.com/75586/Pow...s_in_2009.htmlOn to the green camp, and NVIDIA seems to have concrete plans to respond to AMD, with the GeForce GTX 270, and GeForce GTX 290 planned for this quarter. The two new SKUs are based on a 55nm silicon fabricated G200, the G200b, also known as GT206. Within this quarter itself, NVIDIA plans to prepare a dual-GPU card based on G200b cores, to lead its front. In Q1 2009, the company is planning its transit to the 40nm silicon process, with GT212. There's little known about this chip, while GT216 in Q2 shows NVIDIA incorporating GDDR5 memory across a wide memory bus. This will also be the time when NVIDIA plans a dual-GPU card out of these chips. Finally in Q4, comes GT300, the next generation GPU from NVIDIA that brings in support for DirectX 11.
im sorry but f*** Q4 for 290
for goodness sake does anyone have more aprox date ?!? please..
im very close to pulling the trigger on the 280

This thread is dead. Let it die into the archives. There may not even be a GTX290. Nobody knows if such a thing exists. There is no release date for something if it's not even known to exist yet.
If you need a card try one that has a step up. You might see a refresh in 90 days if you're lucky. if not, then grab another 280 and SLI those monsters.![]()
Hmm, the latest Quadro FX already has 55 nm G200b chip in it, right ? So the desktop equivalent must be coming pretty soon. If nVidia can't deliver it before christmas, i think they FAIL big time.
its coming! its aliveeeeee!!!
NOT!!

We've heard that there is a big possibility that Nvidia's dual GT200 55nm card that we mentioned before might slip to Q1 2009 and launch in January. The card was originally planned for December, but it looks like Nvidia might not make it.
Whenever such a card comes out, it will take R700's, Radeon HD 4870 X2’s performance crown, something that Nvidia needs to operate under its parameters.
The new card is likely to end up faster than the fastest ATI and Nvidia will also bet on its better SLI optimisation, all in order to return the performance crown that it needs back so badly.
Nvidia has simply not given up this year and there might be a driver that could change the odds in Nvidia’s advantage, coming very soon.
Wow i will be very very disappointed if this is true![]()
You're right. If you check out the specs for the new Quadro FX 5800, the TDP is 189W. So, basically the GTX290 is already out (a better version of it). It just costs ~$3500.Hmm, the latest Quadro FX already has 55 nm G200b chip in it, right ? So the desktop equivalent must be coming pretty soon. Perhaps, their problem is yet again yield problem, there's simply not enough chips for a true hard launch of its new line up sooner than later. If we go by rumour from expreview here, they might even not launch these new chips as a new line up, simply going the way of 9600 GT 55 nm dispersed. If they do that, i don't think we'll see any clock improvement, just TDP reduction -but ofcourse there will be OCing bonanza should the voltage isn't too much reduced. Then we'll see a true ATi beater with G200b GX2 sometime next quarter -January or February ?
I am very close to going with the BFG Single-slot H2OC cards.
I want to wait for the shrink, but I want to get my rig together, too.
I'm also concerned that they won't bring out another single-slot version, which is very nice!
