definitely needs a fan or something. Fins would just heat up and become passive cooler surely

Yeah, I'm also booked up for review sample for http://mato78.com , I will propably test it against IFX-14 and few other coolers like Xigmatek and Noctua products and decent DIY watercooling.

This was posted on Engadget a few days ago with a pic

    and

Although theres no mounting hardware/holes in the picture, i bet fans will be used.

Having a higher heat capacity is better, because then it takes a lot more heat energy to heat up the water per degree, which is what you want in a waterblock.

The only reason i can think of for using liquid metal is to use a magnetic pump, so they don't have to rely on moving parts
When the copper bar heats from another end to another, which takes e.g. 3 minutes, for same amount of water in same shape(keeping the water still) it would take 30 hours, if not more.

Water is a pretty good coolant. Good heat conductivity, and excellent capacity (although you can get away with low capacity, you'll just need to pump more coolant or pump it faster).

Tbh the heat conductivity of water is terrible at best. Better than air though, but FAR from any metal.

What does heat conductivity have to do with cooling in the case of a moving liquid tho? About nothing?

from what i found, the "liquid" is Galinstan which is an alloy of gallium, indium, and tin.

    source; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galinstan

so the conductivity is 16.5 Wmk for Galinstan and Water is 0.691

    source; http://hypertextbook.com/physics/thermal/conduction/

soo this cooler should kick ass.

Quite a bit, depending on the turbulence of the liquid. If the conductivity is zeroish, then extreme turbulence is needed for the same results for liquid with good(+100 WmK) conductivity. Though, this issue is minimal ad unnoticeable but under special circumstances it could become an issue. Then again, thats far from average computer water cooling system.

To the topic: Danamics - TRUE with EXTRAHYPERVERYGOOD heatpipes, double the price.

I'm mostly worried about the pumping capacity, not so much the base design, liquid and fins. We'll know shortly.

I remember lurking on this when it got blasted on Engadget forever and a day ago - if I had price and performance number I am open to looking more at this but I'm not too optimistic on it performing much better than higher end heatpipe coolers

It looks like it's got 5 8mm heatpipes, if that's so and it's got good liquid flowing well around the heatsink, it may work well.

Problem I see with it is how will it be cooled, even water needs a fan and it doesn't look like a fan would would hit but 1 heatpipe.
