    What to do if my CPU is Small FFT stable for many many hours but fails Large FFT after 45 min? I've bumped up my vDDR, vNB, loosened timings, raised PL... quite frustrating
    I did some searching and people say it's indicative of the memory being unstable, but I'm running my 4GB GSkill DDR2-1000 PQ slower than rated as well. Looking for general information and will post settings shortly.

    mine from microcenter C0 stepping unfortunately bought at microcenter when they were considerably more expensive

    will do 9x450 fsb 4.05 ghz at 1.256V on water

    and 5.3 ghz at less than 1.6v on ss

    5.5 at 1.6v maybe a touch more on ss

    will be making DICE runs soon

    heres the box pack date/batch

    Guys, help me out here please.

    Is this ok for 24/7?

    4250MHz (533x8)
    vCore = 1.35000v
    CPU GTLs = Auto
    CPU PLL = 1.54 (or 1.56, don't remember)
    FSB = 1.30v
    DRAM = 2.10v (1:1) @ 5-5-5-15
    NB = 1.28v
    NB GTL = Auto
    SB = 1.20
    PCIe SATA = 1.60
    CPU/NB Skew = Normal
    All the rest: Auto
    I guess the vcore is fine, but what about the 533 fsb and other volts? Is it too high for 24/7? I like high fsbs

    I'm either using this config or like radaja is using (500x8) but with a 533 fsb I can use my mems 1:1.

    My E8400 OEM

    Purchased a E8400 OEM a few months back. Will run 24/7 at 4100 mgz but not 100% stable..... 100% stable at 4050 mgz 1.32 V
    Great chip for the price.

    Running on older 680i EVGA board with old Corsair Hydrocool.

    That is perfectly fine. IMO, anything under 1.40V is considered 24/7 worthy.

    Just make sure you keep account of your temperatures, that's all.

    That is a typical/good result for an older C0 e8400 - 4.05ghz required 1.32-1.34v for my older C0's that I sold. You probably will need 1.35-1.37v for 4.1ghz stable which might not be worth the extra heat for the extra 0.05ghz.

    OK Guys I have a question about FSB vs multiplier..
    So What is faster?

    500mhz x 8 = 4Ghz OR
    444Mhz x 9 = 4Ghz ?

    Is it the same performance with less multipliers ? or does it loose its performance even at the same CPU frequency?
    Help ! thanks

    the higher fsb with lower multi will net you better performance, as the memory is tied to the bus speed.... so as the bus speed increases the whole systm speed increases

    Punx223 is correct but motherboards, ram, and northbridges are funny - some will be stable at a 9x multi and not at an 8x, etc.
    Take the highest stable overclock you can get - it will probably be with the higher multi.
    If it is the same ghz, then of course take the lower multi/higher fsb.

    REALLY? So it will be better for games (higher FPS)? and what about encoding etc?

    Edit: also what is the limit for my memory anyway? Its OCZ Reaper HPC 2x1GB DDR2 8500 .. Right now its running at 2.1V, 1770Mhz, fully stable and passes memtest. How much can I go with this memory?
    Edit2: ALso mobo is BIOStar Tpower I45, so that can handle high FSB

    theres no way to say for sure what your ram will do.... only testing will tell...

    not to mention you will wanna run memtest to make sure your not getting small failures....

    even though your memory seems stable it may have small failures you wont see until deep into a good scene on your favorite mp game and she freezes, or BSOD on you

    not to mention you dont wanna deal with the corruption if the memory is unstable

    like laguna said.... it all depends on teh board though.... you will have to figure out what your board likes...

    also some boards like certain ram better than others
    This is my signature, there are many like it but this one is mine..

    There is one setting you're forgetting about: tRD

    You can have a nice high FSB with a low multi and get higher latency due to a high tRD (Performance Level) which can offset any gains from more bandwidth.
    RIG 1 (in progress):
    Core i7 920 @ 3GHz 1.17v (WIP) / EVGA X58 Classified 3X SLI / Crucial D9JNL 3x2GB @ 1430 7-7-7-20 1T 1.65v
    Corsair HX1000 / EVGA GTX 295 SLI / X-FI Titanium FATAL1TY Pro / Samsung SyncMaster 245b 24" / MM H2GO
    2x X25-M 80GB (RAID0) + Caviar 500 GB / Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC1 Build 7100

    RIG 2:
    E4500 @ 3.0 / Asus P5Q / 4x1 GB DDR2-667
    CoolerMaster Extreme Power / BFG 9800 GT OC / LG 22"
    Antec Ninehundred / Onboard Sound / TRUE / Vista 32

    so very true.. without it tweaked right you will not gain from the extra bandwidth.... thank you zlojack

    Yea so I will have to tweak and test the memory timings etc..
    Will do that tonight once I get home and unplug my harddrives..
